Harley's Axial Wraith Build - Jimmy's 4x4 Ultra 4 KOH Style

they will work.i use them in my scx-10 and my wraith, they provide a little bit of extra weight to the axle, which is good.but mine kinda get a little sloppy after a couple of weeks.

one more thing i have noticed is the 4 threaded holes that hold the ring gear on,need to be a little bit deeper,(i,ve talked to RCP about this problem about 6 months ago).if you try to tightin them down your screws will snap.i just cut of about 1/8" off the screw, and i was good to go..your next good locker would be felsenfest lockers.

hey harley do you knwo if this would work in the wraith?

How sloppy? Do they just wear in a little and then the wear seems to stop or do they get worse and worse as time goes?

The Felsenfest were my second thought but being that you have to order them from overseas I usually kind of skip over them.

That's interesting. I'll check to see if I have any slop in my lockers (don't think I do), but I don't recall having any issues with the ring gear bolts.

I didn't ether. I also like that you can use lock tight.

I haven't really had any slop in mine at all.
But its true about the screw holes. Easy remedy if you have a tap and die set.

But over all its a good alternative to the chrome moly ones.

I just ordered a few sets of the hot racing ones. Ill let you all know when they come in what they are like. Post some pics too.

I do love the felsenfest lockers. But man what a pain it is to dial them puppies in.On the standard Axial cases, you have to drill a hole in the rear of your case large enough to get a hex driver in there to adjust the shafts. And you have to do this before you grease because thread locker doesn't work too well with grease. But I imagine with an opening diff cover, that should be much easier.

they seem to wear in a little but then stop, but it's still a strong locker.

maybe im useing screws that to long for the ring gear..

I often wonder if there are better screws that will be stronger that may help. But I have heard that the chrome moly or hard steel ones for RC snap or strip threads. Does anyone have a lead on screws that would fit in the lockers that might be stronger or more durable?

BTW, josh are you or were you able to make a deal happen on them chrome moly lockers. I have been requested by some of my drivers to secure 7 sets all together. 2 sets for me and the rest for my guys.

I really like the Hot Racing lockers I put in my EB. They look awesome, like a real spool. However I have yet to do a tear down to check them...no reason to yet"thumbsup"

Harley, have you had any ill effects from making the chassis changes (the non plastic cage and bumper braces)? I just broke my bumper braces and was going to begin a new bumper out of brake tubing, but am worried it may just transfere the force to the next weak point. What are your thoughts?

I have not had any negative effects. However since I have the FULL kit from the DMG it replaces a good deal of the chassis. The chassis is extremely rigid now, very little give in most places. I took a fall a couple weeks ago that I was sure would have broke something. I was almost expecting the metal work to be damaged. In the end, all was well.

I would suggest getting the DMG bumper braces and then building your bumper off of those.

Good idea, thanks. I also burned up my stock motor (spur gear screws came out and wedged into gears), I put a CC SCT 4 pole system to tryout. Nice and fast, but I am afraid the chassis won' hold up to crashes at speed, since I broke the bumper with the stock system. Also would have to do some tuning to get low speed control. Do you have experience with the CC SCT system in a crawler? Can it be adjusted for both crawling and speed?

The guys at Axial were running that system during testing. The problem is that the motor isn't sensored so you really won't get the control needed for crawling. The CC Mamba Max Pro and a sensored motor like a Tekin 13.5 would be the best of both worlds IMO.

what is your opinion on the 10.5 teking rs-pro sensored brushless system?

The 10.5 is going to be pretty fast but the RS Pro is a good ESC. I really would suggest the 13.5 or the new Tekin SC4X 7.5 which is around 3000kv I believe.

i ordered the 13.5 but i just got the emailed invoice and it says 10.5 its coming NDA so i guess i will wait and see what shows tomorrow"thumbsup"

I'm working on a handful of wiring diagrams for different setups right now to help out some people that are confused on how everything goes together. Hopefully I can get them all done tonight before I lose my motivations.... :ror: I will be adding them to the beginning of my thread and the beginners guide.

Standard stock setup WITH BEC.
