cbp27's Defender 90 Build

Es is Sehr gut! :lmao: Sorry, had to be a funny guy. Can I buy things now?

Great work on all the cagework and bumpers. Very stout and perfect lines!"thumbsup"

You really need to get that shelf queen out on the trails.

I agree!

Well, on the upside, in this thread, he's right :)

Haha Thanks guys!

I've been able to start re-assembling everything on the D90. The cage still needs some more work. The body is down to gluing the details on, fitting the interior, and adding lights. I'll try to post some pictures today.

Well, this is how the D90 currently stands. The windows aren't glued yet. They kind of bulge out because the paint around the windows must be too thick. I wish there was some sort of refresh kit for the windows because they're so scratched. The body's paint hasn't held up so well either with all of the test fittings.

I'm really happy the way the exhaust pipe turned out. It's 1/4" stainless steel tubing, which is brazed to a mounting tab on the chassis.

3rd brake light that will be functional once the LEDs are in place.

I really love the scale hex bolts that RC4WD released last winter. They're perfect for mounting things, even the grill!

And one thing to help with crawling is Team Associated's chassis protector, which makes the sliders really slippery.

More to come soon. "thumbsup"

So many pictures but so little progress

Thanks for the encouragement lol

Ever since finding pardonmyn00b's Defender build I've liked the idea of a functional hood. With the battery next to the steering servo, it allows the body to remain mounted. That makes for super easy battery swaps. I used the sewing thread trick for cutting the hood off. I ended up sanding/chipping some body paint so I'll have to do some touch-ups.

I came up with this contraption of servo mounts and links. It has a lot of articulation and came out with a really nice pop-in closing action.

Just a small update. Got some high temperature chassis and roll bar paint from the auto store for the rear bumper and roll cage. The engine bay is finished. And the new windows arrived. Now I just need to finish prepping the front of the D90 for some fresh paint!

I found these body posts in a parts bin and they make great hood props!

OK time to get this out on the trails and rocks. You should look into comp'n it a Rausch Creek with the club.

I only see another Rausch Creek comp in September. Is that what you meant? Or the Ringing Rocks comp this weekend? I won't be able to make it this weekend. But as soon as this is ready to drive I'll post a G2G on EPA. "thumbsup"

Looks like it's prepped for surgery lol

And primer is done. I think the primer up front will mostly get sanded off since it already has a base of primer and color. Color should go on tomorrow.
I also hope to paint the roll cage.

Great work, talking about the one in Sept. That should give you plenty of time to get this all together and schedule the time free."thumbsup"

Oh that should be plenty of time to finish the D90. Hopefully I won't be too busy with school though.

I was able to finish painting the body, hood, and roll cage today. I used the exact same paint for color but a differnt clear paint this time. Everything looked great until I added the clear. It turned the gray into a cooler tone and is a matte finish.

The MadDogRC light bar is amazing! It puts a lot of light onto the ground. I can't wait to try it outside soon.

The paint is still soft, but I'm too impatient to see what it looks like. haha

M2.5 hex bolts from RC4WD on the wheels and some metal badges that need some paint.

I love these warm white LEDs...

^I think they're great looking trucks, but they're definitely more for looks and slow, careful driving. I miss having a lexan body that can roll, crack, and smash and only costs $25 and takes an hour to detail lol

But now that this rig is nearing completing, I'm really happy how it has turned out. It just needs a few finishing touches. Today I went a little crazy with the camera...

And now on the SCX-10 chassis during the summer...

I like this side shot, minus the house in the background.

Beautiful poser shots...now let's get it muddy and really see what a scale build looks like in the dirt."thumbsup"

Great job on the rig.

All the pics are shot well, this one is gets my vote for most realistic.
The summer one looks great too, but the fence and flower pot ruin the background.

Nice job Clay. Probably one of the nicest and most realistic looking rigs I've seen. Any interior shots?

Glad to see it in the light of day. Looks awesome."thumbsup"

Thanks John.

But it's so clean right now! haha

Thanks! Yeah I wish I could edit that stuff out or find a new location.

Thanks Chris. Probably the nicest thing you've said about this build lol Right now the interior has a huge hole for the spur gear and motor. I might try to patch it up and then I'll show it off. "thumbsup"
