cbp27's Defender 90 Build

Yes, the chassis lifts up the interior so the body can't be screwed to the mounting points

Yeah I had some mounting issues with the interior as well. I almost think my interior was warped a little.

The other day Chris (Gimp) helped me make some new sliders. It's really thick steel this time. Also incorporated threaded holes to mount the body with. No pictures of the sliders yet, but I did get a chance to run the Defender today. It's almost perfect, but I might need to trim the corners of the fenders for less tire rub. And of course I still need to fix the front bumper, make a new rear bumper, finish roll cage, etc.

The tires tuck pretty nicely into the fenders though.

Nice looking build cpb27! "thumbsup"

I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.

Thanks! Me too haha

You going to be ready for the next scale comp on Sat??

I want it to be ready. Need to find a welder to fix the front bumper. We'll see... "thumbsup"

Today I actually did something worthy of an update. I finished the roll cage! ...almost. Just need to clean it up and either paint it myself or get it powdercoated. Even got my MadDogRC lightbar mounted.

The front frame slipped a little while connecting it to the roll cage, so it sits farther forward than I would've liked.

And the new sliders. These will be the last thing to break on this rig.

Looks fantastic! Don't worry about cage imperfections, they'll begin to happen on their own anyhow :)

Paint the cage- if you powdercoat it and it gets scratched you can touch it up easily.

Yeah I have a hard time with the "it's just a toy" mindset. I tend to overthink everything. But it's definitely not perfect haha.

I'm slowly tweaking the rollcage. I removed the big X on top, added the bottom of the roof rack, and now I'm waiting for the body to return to finish the rack. Yes, the body is in Oregon right now with Trenton. He's done a great job at fabbing up some much better sliders than mine, new rear bumper, and a reattached front bumper. Thanks again Trenton!

Today's mig welding...

Once I get it back into my hands and finish adding the details, I'll finally be able to just drive it!
And a shoutout to Wes, John, and Marc. It would be great to have a GTG sometime soon since the next comp is almost a month away. "thumbsup"

Post something up. Things will be busy with ECC at the end of the month and Rausch Creek the start of May. You should come out to Rausch Creek.

Love the bumper. Look like it's Powdercoated?

I didn't mean it's just a scaler, no need to go nuts, I meant as you use the cage for it's intended purpose it will get tweaked here and there from impacts etc.

That rear bumper looks neat

Thanks! I was going for the 1:1 look. Not sure if that lower hitch piece will cause interference though.

I see that you guys posted something for this Saturday. I won't have my D90 back by then. Possibly by the following Saturday. Just looked at the Rausch Creek event and it looks like fun. I only have this Class 1 rig, so I guess I could still enter the G6?

Thanks! Yeah I got the front bumper this past Christmas and it was powdercoated. When I changed chassis I needed new mounts. Haha I knew what you meant. It did have some crooked pieces that I straightened. I hope it's strong enough to hold its shape.

My Defender is on its way!

You could put it in the G6 no problem.

nice build to read through! sweet rig man!

That 5" light bar looks sweet! Keep up the good work on our D90"thumbsup".

Thanks guys! John, I hope I can make it out for at least one comp this summer haha

My build kind of came to a hault because of my summer classes. But now that they're finished I have more time for the D90. Right now it's in pieces after getting it back from Trenton's shop, so it might be a little bit before progress pictures.
