I'm such a dumb ass, I forgot I have 3 or 4 step bits, those cone shaped bits. I'll be able to get the holes close enough to finish with a sanding drum. :roll:

Slow ass super build

Well, back to the drawing board :evil:, I have to cut a new set of weight brackets. I got this set all cut out and drilled up to 9/16" holes and the tried to finish with a step drill, thats when things went to hell quick.
Instead of bottoming out the step drill to the step I wanted I should have took half the cut from each side instead of all from one side. I ended up with a small step in the holes so that the slugs fit tight half way through and loose in the other half.
Anyway, Lesson learned , at least I have this new scroll saw so cutting out the blanks is easy "thumbsup".

Well Christmas is over, so,,,,,,,,,,, back to work.
gotta get one more bracket cut out, got one figured out that will hold 11 .6 cal ss slugs and clear everything at full steering lock "thumbsup". I don't know if i'll need that much on each front but will have the option. And I'll have the smaller set of brackets I got from KC Jones that I can use on the rear if needed.

Yep, I'm happy with how they came out, but now is the really hardest part, getting all the 3mm holes drilled and tapped to hold the slugs. I also have to pick up some more 3mm washers for retainers.
I also had to clearance the inside of the Blast wheels to clear the radius of the brackets.I just used a sanding drum on the dremel and trimmed the fins in the backside of the front wheels. I'll be able to use the 5 slug brackets in the rear without the clearance problem.

Thanks guys, these were a project for sure, I think I have them now though "thumbsup".
RTR weight now is 4200 gms. or 9.6 lbs., 10 ozs. more than before, of course that is my starting point. I have room for 2 more slugs on each of the 4 wheels (I only had 24 slugs to work with) that would be a total of 32 slugs total if needed or 32 ozs. (2 lbs.)
I also changed out the front springs to Losi yellow springs, slightly stiffer than the white ones along with the 60 wt. oil, I'm probally gonna order some 100 wt. after I see how they react.
On a side note, I don't care for the way the tires sidewalls bulge out on these Blast wheels, I guess it is caused from stretching over the oversize wheel. I may have to sand off the sidewall lugs.
Anyhow, some pic's of my rig :mrgreen:.

Man, small changes can sure make a differance :shock:.
I just ran 2-3s 1250mah lipo's through my rig this morning and what a differance, I can't wait to take it to North Mountain park tommorrow and drive it on some real boulders :twisted:.
The shock oil is working hard with the new extra weight, I think I will order some 100 wt. today, and the springs also worked well or at least better.
As for the new brackets, they are sweet. The added weight in the rear really helps keep the ass planted better and the front weights (I tried to keep most below the CL of the axle) have a very positive affect on sidehilling. It has to get almost 90* to flip sideways "thumbsup".
I'm not going to use the 4s lipo's for now on advice from folks on here, to eliminate breakage. The extra weight has done alot for it to pull itself up and over ledges.

How are the front foams now w the extra weight? Still enogh support?

Yeah they seem fine, I did go from 8" disc's to 8 1/2" disc's though, 2 in each front and 3 in each rear.
I can't get over how much the sidewalls bulge out , I put the rovers on the Blast wheels this time.

Update, wife and I spent between 4 and 5 hours yesterday on the rocks, ran all of our rigs, but I spent the most time with this rig.
I love the way you can run the tires on the Blasts' with out gluing them , was able to get foams dialed in, added another disc to the fronts and left the rears as is. "thumbsup"
Sidehills like it never has , the added weight is amazing especially the rear, it just plain stayed planted on the ground, the yellow springs and heavier oil was a great improvment too. "thumbsup"
So I guess its time to spot glue the tires now, the Rovers work so much better on Arizona Granite (note to the out of towners).

Thanks Jeremy , and I am practicing "thumbsup", also I spent a couple hours last night sanding all the lugs off of the moab sidewalls on the axle sides ( what a frickin' mess that was) and the tits on the Blasts' too.
This is one fun rig to drive :mrgreen:, I hope I have enough batteries for the comp, I can usually run 2 courses on one 1250 mah battery (or about 20 minutes practicing), but figure this comp will take a little more power.

One other thing that I discovered, my wheelbase was right at 18", but I did a compressed measurment and came out at 18 1/8", too long (glad I found out now).
Soooooooo, what I did was shortened the front lowers 3/16" and drilled a lower hole in the front upper gearbox mount about 3/16" back and 1/4" down from stock and now my wheelbase is perfect at 17 13/16" free and 17 15/16" at compression "thumbsup".
Will gets some pics up in a while.
