Tips and Tricks Thread

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and I haven't messed with rc in a long time. My buddy has a losi night crawler and it kinda got me goin... I bought a trail honcho rtr and I've been doin my best to break it. I figured it's time to throw some pictures up. I saw a video on YouTube of a dude that made these links to mount his shocks to the chassis that swing down as the axle articulates. This is my second go at it. First set was all sheet metal and bendy as hell. I used some LED heat sinks for these and a stronger flat steel. I just bought some high clearance links and a 96t spur so figures its a good time to mirror the trans since the spur cover has to come off anyway. Decided to paint some things while I was at it and get some pics. I went with green cuz.. Well.. I live in denver

Body was loose on the mounts so I gotsta thinking of a cheap and easy fix without leaving the house. Found a half a pack of those fuzzy pads for chair feet on hard floors, found a plastic fast food cup of spent brass in the garage, figured out a .22 is just right, got a hammer, and a board.

I mounted 5mms leds behind the lexan for a realistic look. I used some 3/16" id silicone vacuum hose, and cut it the length of the led. Then I glued the hose to the back of the body, and pushed the led in place.

Here's a switch I installed for the lights...

Here's how I secure the wiring to the body...a little E6000. If you haven't used this stuff yet, you're missing out.

Not sure if this has been posted before (probably has) but I made a battery relocation plate from a spare piece of sheet metal and some spare hardware. I re-used 2 of the stock battery tray mounts, and just had to add 2 small bolts with nuts to hold the stock tray on. It moved the battery into the center of the truck, and mounted it horizontally to spread the weight out some, and got rid of the front crossmember that hits on the servo horn anyways. "thumbsup"

If your front and back wheels are weighted slightly differen. Put a mark on the back side of either the front or back wheels incase you have to remover and reinstall all 4 and dont have a scale handy.

Is your steering link , from the servo to the knuckle, on the drivers side or the passanger side?
What the difference. Mine is from driver.and turns more one way than another. I dont know which way has more. Im on the side of the road with my POS Ranger. :)
Ill check when I get home.

HAHA! I dont mean to laugh but ive been there.

search on centering your servo. Youll have to pull the horn, center, and re attach horn. that should resolve your problem.

Ive done this but its a 23t horn. I had a 25t before and it was perfect. Maybe i had more of a centering option with more teeth?

I run my rc4wd superlift shocks upside down and add just enough 7000 weight diff oil to dunk the piston on a full stroke. It makes for a great ride and it don't leak.

So I'm guess you don't know the difference of the steering rod being on the driver side or passenger side. I know how to center a servo. I built my rc. But don't chime in, if all your gonna do is make a wise ass comment, unless you have any helpful info on the question asked.

Made my own snorkel with spare Axial parts:

Just parts from the parts trees, including half of a upper 3 link, a screw and some good old super glue

A cure to half shaft in/out slop is this. This also keeps your axle pins in place. One o-ring per side. This is applicable for front and rear.

I don't know if this is posted already but I have been using cat-5 Ethernet wire for my LED lights. you get 4,2 wire strands and it's solid core so its easy to solder and it holds a bend really well.

a lot of cool ideas here going to use some of these  I have been out of the crawler thing for awhile. Thanks to my son i'm back "thumbsup"

Oven cleaner takes off chrome from plastic really well. Here is a set of 2.2 rock stars that got the chrome cleaned off.
