its time! full on BWD mini mantis.. test, tune an crawl!

Hahahahahaha... I see you have jokes!

BUt how am I to test roll over recovery if I don't roll over?

Any who... I'm got a few things to start on.. on top of the red servo guard for this, I'm making half a dozen CF ones to see if there's interest, then a set of beadlock rings, like this, is next for the Bwd modlocks..

I'm also getting on a spare mrc axle housing for the xr housing, wraith steering mod.. so time for cutting an grinding..

I dont think anyone would be interested in the servo guards.. or the beadlock rings..

You better just send them all to me.. They wont be any good anyways:mrgreen::ror:

I only have one in CF at this point Christian.. that's for if I feel the red guard is too much, once I get the other red on.. two more to make an waiting on a order for materials for the first batch... The beadlock rings also went out an will be coming up in a build very soon!

As for the mini I did some small steps..

A spare housing got shaved down an smooth.. I don't have the drill bit to get the inner diameter of the xr housing done, but will have it drilled an cut for length tomm... I used a spare cause tomm for the first time in oh 7-8 days, we are to have Sun! Whatever that is.. lol.. so I want to get the mini out on the rocks tomm for some testing with weight on the 4 corners an front wheel wideners..

Keep the good stuff coming on this build. Always good to see the MRC guys still forging ahead with cool builds.

A little more, after some squirrel hunting an getting a drill bit, done....

Then I did both sides, this was just for what it takes out.. anywho..

I got out on the rocks today with bout a 1.25oz up front with the wideners included in that an the half rings out back..
Wow! This chassis is the ticket! I have built multiple mini's, gc3, pro, mini juice, etc.. this is by far the most planted rig yet! That's including my favorite, best crawling, mini juice...

By the time better steering, od, ud mods, an, rear beef tubes are done, the knuckle weights an rear weight holders will finish out nicely! Haha, I said finish! Ok getting a head of my self.. pics, right.. on it.

I guess I should have got a better pic of that.. looks not the same, dam pics in 2D...

This is by far my favorite pic for today! SHows perfectly the flex in the rear an the articulation in the front...

This one is taken from above, this is how it looked dropping down over the rock from above..

Small steps here, small steps.. Haha..

Thanks rickm, ill keep it comin

Pics look very very good man. That red cf looks even better out in the light.

I am kinda suprised the flex this thing has. Very impressive build, I cant wait for the video"thumbsup"

Looking really nice :) Great job! I knew you would like it once you got it going...

Those panels look really nice :) Now it just needs side panels :D

Thanks guys!
It flex's great! Christian.. not only does it look good, its also taking the roll overs pretty good at that..

Side panels are on but not what I want, I painted the over spray skin for testing today.. coming off or maybe cutting the top portion in the side windows off for looks..

I'm glad its out of ur shop an on the rocks J.D. this little guy rocks!

Yeah, the Bwd modlocks are a great addition to the chassis from Don. Also choice of adjustable offset is a added bonus. As I'm sitting a touch over 8" with the wheel wideners on.. shaving the tires might put me within the 8" track width.. will see after shaving..

Ok, a little one handed crawling video I tried today..

Looking GREAT Troy. Damn, more things for me to upgrade over the winter.:ror:

Good videos for sure! Nice to see it in action.

The torsion causes the rig to do some odd things.. but it definitely stays PLANTED"thumbsup"

Thanks John! Yeah I think it will be a force to recon with this season... That an a class 1 rug comin.. maybe I can get some of them champions posted in my Sig next year.. "thumbsup"
It's giving the mini juice a run for its money already an its not broken in or fully tuned yet.. then a again, the wheel may not fall off or have the blue wire of the mongoose system come apart next comp either..
2nd yearer coming strong an all learned up, well kinda all learned up, lots more to learn yet!

I can't wait to get get more wheel time an learn the actions an reactions of the torsion.. it feels great crawling an very planted! Odd is good, I caught myself hesitating in certain situations that I would with a full suspension rig, but the torsion worked an walked itself right thru the hesitation I had.. lots more to come.

Some side by side crawling with the mini juice is next.. got the Rcbros 4 link/servo mount an getting it mounted an ready for action...

Nothing too special today.. as its my wife an I's anniversary.. I did get the mini juice an the Bwd mini mantis out today..

The juice is on the left..

The only pic I got on the rocks tho was this one.. no good!

That one nut really seems important on this chassis! :)

I Can say this tho.. they are such diff rigs, its crazy! The mantis will do things the juice won't even look at... Then again the juice can do some things better.. not many tho.. an it could be the lack of drive time for the mantis.. I can see me re working the juice to work a little better tho, maybe lighter.. its got to be a lb heavier, easy!
I'll get back on track here tomm..

HAHA at least you didn't break it...

What's the weight of the Mantis? And what's the weight of the Juice?

Mini mantis... Light

Mini juice... Heavy

Lol, I dunno.. the juice was over 3lbs maybe close to 3 an a half lbs.. its got aluminium wheels, knuckle weights, 4.25" rovers with Rmdw dual disc foams, an the mongoose system...
So compared to the delrin wheels, no weights, CI single stage foams in stock rovers, HH mini an a decased fxr.... It's a good bit lighter.. ill get a weight on it once its built an dressed up how its goin to comp. With the extra weight of the xr axle housings, wraith chubs an knuckles.. I may not need any weights up front. Time will tell..
