Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof UPDATE!!!!!

Decided to put the Rovers on tonight. Changed up the foams a little in them though. Running CI double deuce foams standard firm inner with soft outer, and sedona foams in the rear.

Truck is weighing in at 5lbs 4oz. I decided to add another ounce per wheel from my previous setup so I'm at a total of 6oz bias on the front wheels.

My balance point on the chassis is at 3/8" in front of the lower link mounting points!! With my 7oz bias wheels, I'm at 1/2" in front of the skid. Should perform nicely at this weight.

I have a comp tomorrow outdoors in 40* weather, I'm hoping that the truck will perform well. I'm going to start out with the Rovers to see how I like them, then switch to my Khaos rover setup. Running the Khaos tires in front and Sedonas in the rear. The front hooks hard and digs excellent on smooth rock, but the rear allows just enough slip to not get bound up.

So with your balance point SOOO far out in front of the skid, you should consider dropping some weight off the front to get the rig below 5lbs. I'll bet you could do that and still keep the fulcrum in front of the skid.

I'm running 6oz of bias per wheel in the front. Never really tried running less than that. I guess if I drop 2oz per wheel, I can be at 5lbs and still balance in front of the skid or right at the link mounts.
Once I get my rear tubes turned down and get rid of the knuckles and stuff and install my plastic axial lockouts, I'd really hope to save another 2oz off the rear. I can switch to SCX-10 shocks, drill the gears, and run a smaller lipo. I'm running some 800mah packs right now and the 600mah packs CBP has weigh about an ounce less than my current packs. I could easily get this truck below 5 lbs, but I just don't know that I'd feel comfortable with a truck that light.

What is your truck running at right now?? I'd really be happy with a 5.5lb truck that feels like a 6lb truck.:ror:

Mine is at 5lbs 3oz with a 450mah battery and shaved boss claws "thumbsup" It's the exact same weight as my XR, but the balance point is about a quarter inch farther in front of the skid than the XR "thumbsup"

So far traction on my rover setup has been not so good. Either need more weight or softer foams.
First course of the day was rough. Times out on gate 7. Just didn't have the traction to pull the line. After the course, I threw my heavier Sedona setup on and it walked the line with no problems at all.
Sedonas are going to stay on the truck the rest of the day now.

Jesse the truck looks way better now. Just need to fine tune your tires and weights. Good job today with the Thing.

Thanks Jake!! You did a dang good job too. Its nice to see you getting to me more and more consistent now."thumbsup"

Yeah, the rovers were just not working. Got to thinking about things on the 3 1/2hr drive home today.... I set my truck up to work with my sedonas and Khaos rovers which put my truck at 5lbs 12oz. My rover setup weighs 10oz less than that. Not having ANY tuning time at all on the lighter setup was probably the reason.
After putting my Sedonas back on for the rest of the courses, and bringing the truck back up to the weight I tuned it for, it was a point and shoot truck. It drove noticeably better and. You have to admit it pulled some really good lines that no one else could clear on two different courses.

You can't just drop 10oz out of your truck without changing the setup. The likely reason for the lack of traction for those tires was simply link geometry. With less weight you theoretically have less traction, so you have to use suspension geometry to get the power to the ground. Lowering my front and rear upper links 1-2 holes would have likely helped the truck out dramatically.
I have all day to play around on the rocks outside tomorrow so I'm going to put the rovers back on and try again, but this time with the improved geometry. If it still does not work well, I'm gonna stick with the sedonas and Khaos tires and call it done at 5lbs 12oz. Its not an overly heavy setup at the heavier weight and it is definitely more nimble than the 6 1/2lb trucks I used to drive. I know light can work, but you are simply dealing with limits of tire traction and foam setup with a lighter truck. They just HAVE to be set up different. Shock setup can pretty much remain the same, just link geometry needs to change.

Here's a little video from today of a cool little trick I figured out today. Might be old news to some, but I never tried it before.

Its hard to see because of the shadow on the rock, but the ledge is about 3" out of reach of my front tires. I tried and tried to grab the ledge but was not able to. I tried blipping the throttle at it a couple times, but the rears would bounce back off the rock and keep me from getting traction with the fronts.

What I did was bounce the truck off the rocks and while in midair, I would put the truck in Dig while staying on the throttle which caused the fronts to drop forward and grab traction on the rock and the rear to lock up and kick the front down. Doesn't look like much but there was no way the truck was going up the rock easily without using this technique. Took me a few tries to master the technique but it is definitely cool!

Nice driving"thumbsup"

Now you can't be giving out all the tricks;-)

Hey.....Jesse, Quit messin with your truck....

Good driving today, you pulled some pretty sweet lines....all day! That finals course we set up was the most fun I have had at Auburn hills, to date. I hope you are as wind burnt and hot faced as Ben and I....:lmao:

That finals was fun! I didn't really care how I did on it so I decided to try gates 11 and 12 the hard way just to see if my truck could do it. I was clean up until those gates but I was able to see how far I could push my truck. Definitely a cool pile of rocks over there!!
And I didn't get wind burned at all. I figured you'd be used to it from all the snowmobiling you got in this year in Michigan

Got another package in the mail the other day!! I really love these wheels. They are so adjustable, more than just in offset but in looks too. You can get a positive offset look or a really deep dish type look just by swapping out hubs!

Hell has frozen over... i see pin tires where ive only ever seen sedonas  lol cool wheels btw lol

Lol!! I've had these pins built for about a month but have never comped with them because I didn't have another set of wheels for them. They do work really well but at times seem to have too much bite.

When do u notice too much bite? Only time ive experienced that is when im rear burning the ass end around...

Mostly when I'm pushing the front end into something and the rear just pushes too hard and won't allow my front to push up. Or when I'm doing a sidehill and want to burn my rear over.
