Should have quoted you when you said narrower but you changed it but yes the chassis is considerably wider than before!!

The chassis is about 3/4" wider than the previous version.
3/4" WOW! So I win right?

Yup! PM was sent!

The decision to widen the chassis up came after a lot of testing and tuning. There were just some things on my truck that I could not work out and I finally figured out that it had to do with lower link triangulation.
There is a point when too much triangulation can be bad, but also too little can also be bad.

The amount of triangulation that I added was based on several trial and error tests. I wanted a truck that felt stable in the most extreme limits of suspension travel and I kept adding width until it felt right. Not only changing the width, but lowering the roll center of the chassis helped tremendously.

I consulted with Nabil the other night and he agreed that the changes would be a good start so I now felt confident that it should work well.

One other thing that we had talked about is that with everyone moving as much weight as possible out of their chassis, it was having an effect on geometry. The more weight in your chassis, the less effect link positioning has on antisquat and squat. With less weight, it takes less aggressive geometry changes. By lowering my upper link mounting positions, it allowed the roll center to change along with having more overall traction.

The truck truly drives like a whole different truck now. I just want to try playing a little with shock pistons and shock oil. I'm currently running my 4" big bores with 3 hole pistons with 22.5 wt oil. I want to try out 2 hole pistons with some lighter oil. Even though they will probably feel about the same, the two hole piston will allow the shock to have a more progressive feel when driving fast and making quick transitions.

I'm not sure if the XR guys are experiencing the same finding that I uncovered as the XR version of the chassis is a bit different. Since mine is a berg version, I'm sure its just a berg thing... LOL!!

so has this cured the front tire lifting? mine still does it every now and then and is bothering the snot outta me. looks good btw and cant wait to see ya run at Indy

Very nice work...the tire lifting is an issue with the XR chassis' as well. Myself and limited77 were trying to work it out of his XR before he let stepped away from that rig. How wide is it from plate to plate at the skid? Remind me what the measurement is from front lowers to rear lowers as well if you don't mind. Just comparing them to a different setup...

For the most part, Yes! There are still times when in a bind and the rear wheels are hooked hard into a spot that the front will lift a tire. But I'm thinking that ANY truck would do this.

Look forward to seeing ya there too! Should be a good time!

The truck is now 1 7/8" wide overall. And front to rear lower measurement is the same as before at 1 7/16". Widening the truck up has improved the roll center and also the shock mounting positions. This is the reason for lifting tires on the previous setup. The XR version is different from the Berg version though. If I remember, the lower link spacing front to rear is a little wider than the berg version. Not sure on that exact measurement though.

Wow that was narrow! The v4 has always been 1 7/8" wide with 1.5" wide skid. I bet they perform similarly. How much do you space your uppers off the plates?

XR Thing skid measurements are 2 11/16 eye to eye long and 1 1/4 wide. give or take of course

Wow, that is a HUGE difference. Are you sure the bolt to bolt measurement is 2 11/16"??

I have the front uppers about 1 1/16" away from the chassis and the rears about 1/4". May be wider in the rear though, I'm using the jeepindoug shock tapered shock spacers.

lol sorry guys typed it wrong. its 1 11/16 give or take

That sounds better! LOL!! I was thinking you might have measured your Supers skid! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Got the truck together just a little bit ago and got two packs through it!

I lost a total of 3oz from switching to the new chassis and my new upper links.

My truck weighs in at 5lbs 12oz right now. That is with 14oz front wheels and 7oz rears. If I switched to my rover setup, I would easily be at 5lbs 2oz! After I get my rear tubes turned down with the Axial plastic lockouts, I should be under 5lbs easily. Not sure I would ever go that light, but it might be worth a try! I have to soften up my rover foams as they are way too stiff to work to their fullest potential. I have CI double deuces up front with a firm tuning disc on the outside of the tire to help with support since the rovers are clapped, in the rear I'm running Panther F400's. Maybe just switching to CI Double Deuces all the way around without any additional support would work well.

I'll have pics up in a little bit!!

The new Upper links are a LOT lighter than I figured the would be! 1oz for all 4 with rod ends!!

that looks awesome. hmm got me thinking bout widening it out now...

I'm sure that Don would make a wide skid for the XR version as well. You have to cut down your cab spacers to get it down to 3" again, but its pretty easy.
