Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof UPDATE!!!!!

The over traction likes to cause tire lift with these tires too...especially turning uphill.

Now that you mention that YES! That is one thing I was trying to tune out of my truck but it must have just been those tires!!
I have been practicing a lot lately with my sedonas but would throw the pins on for a course or two and that was one big thing I noticed about them. I thought it might have been me but now I'm glad someone else can confirm this.

Yup...it drove me crazy for a while too. Boss claws don't do it. It must be the width, traction and height that make these that way. They climb great, but I have a hard time trusting them.

I hear ya there. I will probably run them at our next points comp but my sedonas are staying on for the US Indoor.

Maybe an uncut set in the back would limit the amount of traction just enough

Thought about that but found I like running sedonas in the rear instead. Plus I don't want to buy another set of tires. Lol!

Finally got to do some real testing on tires yesterday. Ran the pins first, then my sedonas.

The pins seemed to dig slightly better in certain situations. But one thing I didn't like about them was the amount of hop I was getting out of them. I am running the Crawler Innovations Closed cell inners with Soft up front and Med in the rear. On verts, they really seem to hop when searching for traction. My sedonas pulled EVERY line the pins did just as easily, and some even easier. My sedonas are smooth when searching for traction and they have virtually NO hop at all. I'm running some OG Crawler Innovations foams with the glue seams in them!

Like Harvo mentioned a few posts back, they seem to get pinched and cause tire lifting. There is just something about them that I can't quite put a finger on, but it might have something to do with the bulging sidewalls. I might have to get a set of Boss Claws to see how they do. I like the pins, but just don't trust them yet.

Maybe I'll try narrowing the Khaos tires. Never narrowed a tire but it might be worth a shot.

Keep Running them man, You will grow to love them in time. The Scorpion King made an interesting post in my thread regarding the loss of traction in the rear with the particular cut I am running. Perhaps something similar is worth a try. Though I understand you not wanting to get a new set of tyres. When you have something that works the way the Sedona's are for you.

He must have been typing on a Nokia 5110. Cause it is a little garbled.

How is that unique looking rear tres etup come with any big losses?

I would assume you'd lose a little of both side and forward traction.

I love the traction they have... but I hate how they act when turning up sidehills. I think Boof nailed it with the rounded sidewall corner being the culprit. There are times when it just gets too much traction on the sidewall and it makes the suspension act really wonky.

I've been lurking in your thread the last few days and it seems that your truck is working really well for you. I did notice the aforementioned post and it doesn't really seem that the rear has too much traction but just too much side bite or something when you don't want it. I won't give up on these tires as they should work well once I get them figured out.

Wonky is about the only way to describe it! LOL!! It even seems like the truck is dragging at times too. It's weird and hard to explain but I just have never had much time on any other pins to compare differences.
I'm really considering narrowing these tires. They are just too wide IMO. I know that an increased contact patch means more traction but a narrower contact patch will also increase contact force. It's proven that Rover work well and they are much narrower than Khaos tires.

Im sure people have tried narrowing them but haven't been able to find anyone with some good drive time on them yet.

I have noticed the side bite. But think that it would be something quite hard to tune out. Perhaps some extra hard tuning foam rings on the outside of the DD outer foams?

Might be something easy to try I guess. I have some of those discs laying around.
I'm really wondering if narrowing them would change the sidewall profile though.

I don't know about the sidewall profile but IMO you would be getting rid of some of the crown of the tread so I believe you would get more constant contact patch as well as a "different acting" sidewall... This is exactly the reason I have been contemplating doing a narrowed set of blocks...

Narrow em up buddy, I really don't think you will be disappointed whatsoever!

If your going to run the same width foam with a narrowed tyre then you will get more compression in the transition from side wall to tread. But I think foam tuning is a safer first step to narrowing.

Just some food for thought regarding the khaos tires sidewall bulge your having issue with.

1. I believe your tires were made using an overlap joint at the glue seam. Mine were made by Eddie @ C.I using a butt joint at the glue seam, and do not seem to have as much bulge or "retread" look like many I see that have overlapping glue seams.

2. Shaving the sidewall is another option to "square" up the sidewall transition. TC09 did it to his pin tires, they are not khaos, I believe they are megabites, but the same principle should apply. Pic below of TC's tire, along with a link to his build thread with more info on the subject.

my tires were made by c i and they have that bad bulge.i have some narrow khaos and they work great.i also would like to get rid of the bulge.

Sorry to keep the highlack going JCB, but I think after this weeks comp round I will demount the tyres and trim the overlap join on the inside to see if that makes a difference to my setup. Thanks for the input RR.
