What did you do today?

A few minutes ago, I received an email that lays me off and says last month was my last month with work.

Some days ago my mom started not feeling well again and my dad keeps doing the superhero who can do it all alone. I also need to go see them. Age is age.

I'm now down to over 2.5k a month and will have to resort to pay rent with my savings.

Yes, I am sitting in my office and the second thing I did was writing it here.

What did YOU DO today?!

Went to leave work had a nice puddle by the side of my truck at the curb. Spitting tranny fluid.
So I've been truck hunting most the weekend, weighing out costs/payments/terms.
My 98 needs ex manifold as its loud as hell and you can't bolt to the manifolds due to being rusted out.
Tranny leak under up being a line sprung a leak. But at 220 on it, She needs a few grand in work, ball joints, timing chain/gears, and shes going through gas Like Kamalatoe Harrass kneepads in promotion season.

So it boils down to 140K and up for 15-20K for a 2014ish to 2018. Or 29+ and just get a 2021 and go for a 9/10 yr term to keep that payment lower. Im hoping to be around the 300 but will likely end up near 400 amonth by the time Im done. Cant see spending 15ish to get a newER vehicle with similar miles to my old ones, when I can just double the term and go for a few years old an under 50k.

Then I fixed the bad tranny line, and went shopping again.
Fix or buy. Hmmm
9 to 10 year loan for a vehicle? 😲 Is that even possible? I highly recommend you do NOT do that. Hopefully you can find a better way.

Sorry to hear about the job! That's a spineless way to relay that news to an employee! Hope your mom starts feeling better.

Thank you, Jato. It's work affecting both me and my wife, because of our company together (work we had done for over 11 years), so this is really bad. I like to think this will be a way for new opportunities to come, but this is going to be a rough ride. Helping my parents with their day care costs was already some weight, now there's the rent for our house being entirely uncovered, the game just stepped up a couple notches.

All I want is for things to be healthy, the rest I have no fear to flip off in the face of fate.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate changes. As you mentioned perhaps this will bring new and better opportunities and outcomes to your current situation ... the world and life works in mysterious ways. Good luck and best wishes to the new things to come your way, and also hope your parents get well.

Man, Reezo... Well-wishes don't mean much but you've got mine regardless. Genuinely hoping that you find yourself embarking upon a new endeavor asap.

No pics but I took all the trash out this morning, went to the grocery and the post-office, then made a trip to the Lobby of the Hobbies with my wife... her thing not mine. Last night made meatball subs from scratch.. not the buns but the meatballs anyway. Tonight will be stuffed bell peppers.

another option is to buy a older truck with no rust and rebuild it

Reezo, sorry to hear about the lay off buddy. It's big to share yet glad there's some release of getting stuff off the chest through some gents through RCC. You've got a lot on your plate but I hope stress doesn't get the best of you and hope you land a solid job next!

Guys thank you all so much. If I said these are just forum posts and they're nothing, I'd be lying. I appreciate your good vibes and I promise I'll keep pushing forward. I am not going to take just any job and be enslaved to people taking advantage of me, I'll keep pushing for the quality standard I've worked decades to build, and that cost me years of training and sacrifice.

But yeah, it's not a pretty situation, and we must navigate through these waters.

The meatball subs look amazing, I had dinner 2 minutes ago yet I'm salivating.

Why am I always the furthest from the best friends I could have ;)

I thought it may have been the main tranny seal. But was just an old line that needed a coupler. heh.
Did spend a grand on putting on new exhaust manifold cuz I dont have a garage and not fond of busing my knuckles much anymore. at least not on exhaust bolts.
It still needs tierods inner and outter, and problaby ball joints and new tires soon.

Issue I am running up against is I'm having a hard time spending the kind of money they want on a newer truck, that has millage that is between my 89 Astro that has just over 150K on it, and my 98 Silverado that has 211K on it. but to get something near the 100k area or under, is 20k, from 2015-2018, and 25K and up for 2019 and newer with under 100K.

8 for sure on a new one. 7 on used depending on yr/mlg. I thought the one sales guy said he could get 8 years on a used at a few places the lot uses so long as it was low millage, not very old and the credit score is good enough.
But fortunately I think my old truck gonna do ok for another year.

Not much new lately. Money is going into the 1:1 for a bit.

Jobs my daughter doesn't like or want. Painter, shoveling dirt/mulch. Last night plumber was added to the list. It's a good thing she is a nurse. We had to remove some black cast iron drain pipe and install pvc pipe. On the last piece after everything was cut and pieced together. I glued 1 piece backwards. Dang it. It was late and I was tired/exhausted from my job. She said can't we use those big plier things and twist it back apart. I said no it's stuck fast. So we got the channel lock pliers out and tried just for her. Next she will get a chance to do some sheet rock work to cover the hole in the ceiling downstairs. My guess is she will pass on that as career also.

I typically don't like to jump the gun on things, like prematurely replacing something that may have some life left but today I finally convinced myself that it was time to go buy some new insoles for my work boots.

Yeah... I think these have given about all they have to give...

Finished the chassis build of my Yokomo RD2.0 Rookie Drift. Just need to solder up the wiring, wait for the gyro to be delivered (UGH) and finish cutting, mounting and painting the body (UGH again :ROFLMAO:).

Just been in bed sick last few days, I think I got hit with the Salmonella from that recent egg recall here in the Midwest. I was hoping to run my Telluride at the dam with the X-HD upgrades yesterday, but that wasn’t going to happen with how I’ve been feeling.

Replaced a failing wheel bearing on the truck. The specs on these maxed out my cornwell torque wrench (250lbs) several times, and technically not 100% up to manufacture spec. 🤷‍♂️

Lol. I just realized I snapped that picture right after I torqued the caliper adapter bolts to 250lbs (literally lifting myself off the ground by the wrench to get that click), and right before I realized I was an idiot and had forgotten to put the rotor on first. Back apart (via 24" breaker bar) and do it all over again.

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 what an idiot! 😆

Took the wife out again to ride our atv's, hers has 4 wheels mine has 2... Had a good time rode over 20 miles. top speed 25 mph on the way back, average speed was 15ish when moving.

Doh! We've all been there. Of course it's the bolt that's torqued tight AF!

That's awesome, man! Looks like you got awesome riding areas. I'm so jealous. I miss riding quads more than anything! Always been too short for a full-size dirt bike. I was on go karts from age 4 or 5 until I got my QuadRacer at 14 or 15 so I'm more comfortable on 4 wheels on dirt anyway. On the street, I love my 2 wheelers!

those look like my flip flops before my wife convinces me to toss them and get a new pair

Yes, the riding areas are quite awesome. Very easy riding in this particular area, my wife is getting the hang of motor sports lol. She doesn't drive or have a license and is starting to understand the complexities of off road. This is only her second time out. I grew up on motorcycles off road and road everything from XR 50, 100, 250, 400, to a CR250 including KDX 220, and a YZ250. up into my late 20's. I moved to MT and didn't have anyone to ride with, so I stopped riding for 15 years before moving south to ID. I picked up a TTR125 to get back into bikes and then my current TW200. the TW feels like a pit bike to ride and is so much fun. I find myself at full throttle more often than not lol.

I have a ton more pics if anyone is interested.
