What did you do today?

Drained a poison ivy blister (day 10) that was getting inconveniently in the way. Can't wait for this thing to start going away and start wearing shorts again.

Yesterday I went home at lunch and got my Harley and rode back to work. Also went for a ride after work. I have been thinking about selling it because this will be the third year in a row where I will be less than a couple thousand miles on it and having a $20,000 motorcycle sitting n the garage seems like such a waste. Granted, last year I was out of commission for the end of the year when I crushed my arm. But as soon as I got on my bike yesterday, I was happy and loving life. Makes it hard to sell! My girlfriend told me I can't sell it and that we just need to figure out a way for me to be able to ride it more. She's such a keeper! The weather hasn't cooperated this year.

Afterwards, I went home anxious to finish my Tamiya Neo Fighter DT-03 build that I started three years ago. The body was supposed to be white and flourescent pink, but I got lazy and painted white, then pink and backed it all with white because this was the easiest way to mask it. I quickly remembered why you are supposed to paint darker colors first. Oh well. At least it looks more white in the sunglight.

I've been at the local Naturbad swimming pool with my wife, and it absolutely rocked. We biked from home to the nearby small town (it's close-by) and had a bath, it's been so long! It's natural water from a river, partially deviated and sanitized, but with beautiful natural moss and flowers, birds too! Everyone is so peaceful, respectful and welcoming.

It was a good day.

Sorry to hear that! I've never seen a Poison Ivy in my life, but yeah it's a real B. I hope you get better soon and wear some crazy weird shorts to celebrate (and send us a pic ;)) while doing some exciting trailing or crawling!

I can feel how good it was to ride that bike. I agree, you shouldn't sell it, given that feeling. And yes, great thing that your girlfriend said something like it.

The Neo Fighter looks absolutely stunning, are you kidding me? The way it came out is off-the-hook. Granted, I am an amateur Lexan painter, but that thing is gorgeous! I am not even showing it to my wife, actually I should maybe, because the color combo could be perfect for some new body for a new crawler, and I'd get away with buying something else ;) But awesome job, really!

In other news (notice the three dashes to create a psychological separation ;)) I am thinking at my next project or crawler. I know, I am weird. I like to take rigs and bring them to higher levels, while still playing with what I have. I hope I am not alone in this.

So, I am getting an attraction for the old SCX10 things, like the Honcho or the 2012 Jeep Unlimited. I know it's kind of a can of worms because their are old platforms, but I noticed here in EU I can still find some parts, need be, and I don't think I'll break much, or if I do I'll step it up to SCX10.2 level, with some tinkering (e.g. axles). Right now, I gotta say the Honcho has an advantage. I'd like to make one or two rigs (I am sick, I am already thinking TWO rigs) with stock electronics or at least in brushed form. All my rigs are 4S-capable, up to the point where I have no 3S batteries anymore. I'd like to do a couple 'classics' and the Honcho and 2012 Jeep seem great at that... brushed systems this time, all stock electronics (minus the servo maybe), but those ESCs won't take 3S. So I will probably add a DC-DC converter to step down 4S to 11.1 V (what Amps rating would you recommend?) or maybe changing the ESC for 4S-brushed capable (I only know of the Mamba Micro X2 that can do it, but I am not an expert). I am all ears for all you want to suggest.

Anyway, I wanted to drop my question in here, I hope it's OK as it's part of what I did today: "I wondered about a new rig project...". But if it's better to create a specific thread, I'll do it and edit this post, just say thy word.

What ever I want....
Being retired has its benefits...
I get up when I want, (0730) I made a pot of coffee, took the dog out, waited for the wife to get up, went to the gym for a workout. Closed the pool, put away all the patio furniture, covered the wood pile. Rode my bike (5 miles). Went to the store to buy flowers for the wife. Had a wonderful dinner and will relax with the wife and dog tonight.

Funny you mention weird shorts to celebrate. I told my mechanic's wife that I own a pair of pink shorts and I've worn them a couple times, and she wants me to wear them during work (precisely like a heather salmon-ish color). Well even though I'm gonna have some scarring probably, maybe I'll surprise her and wear them.

Nice you mention a Honcho because one of my future rigs involves a Honcho body on a SCX10 Pro chassis (I don't own an original Honcho or even the Remo version).

As for a brushed ESC recommendation for 4S, grab a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL (goes for $110 USD).

I say keep the Harley for sure ... if it still gives you that certain smile then it would be nothing but regrets  ... I say yer too young yet m8y to let it go (y) If you don't need too financially then really ... why are asking yourself?
I miss the bikes dearly now but health issues won't allow one and will always feel I gave them up too early trying to be sensible (the mind ageing sucks some times lol) and not thinking of my own wants and needs.

As for that Neo Fighter, the two-tone pink actually works ... think it's the touches of blue that saves it. Have you run it yet? I keep thinking of trying a Tamiya but haven't made the plunge yet.

A fantastic day, from heads to tails!

Then pink shorts it is :)

Your PRONCHO project sounds really cool, I am aiming at an original one in the old SCX10 years for the sole reason that the II is a bit harder to find and prices *might* be very convenient for AX10 and SCX10 versions, at the moment. Sometimes - sometimes - I see a clearance of someone saying: "OK, I gotta get this out of my attic." and since I am in no rush, I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the BR-XL recommendation, I'll see if I can use some DC-DC step-downs to keep all electronics original (I have some spare sets of original Axial ESC+Motor or even Spektrum Firma+Motor+Radio, that I could use in case someone is selling it as a roller, without electronics).

I like the SCX10 2012 Jeep but there is something rounded and polite about it (maybe the open roof, maybe the bonnet cornering) that isn't giving me that overlanding Jeep aggression factor. The Honcho has something addictive to look at, it might be its exposed rear axle, the way it works the obstacles is kinda satisfying. Also, I don't have any SCX10 early versions so that would give me a bit of diversity (and that's why I'd like to have eventually a pair of SCX10 and keep them in stock ESC+Motor forms, or at least brushed, almost like it was a 'class' in my garage).

I'm watching some classic Rivas Concepts videos and I love that 'performance meets scale' precise balance of most of the rigs portrayed in the videos. They also translate very well on my terrain because I don't have a lot of MOA/Class 3 stuff, it's mostly trails with some rocks, roots, moss...

We'll see!

Well I had a busy day. Got up at 6 to clean the kitchen, walked the dog, I got to do full kids to school duty morning, which adds making breakfast "which ended up being some yogurt and cereal" and packing/making lunch to my normal routine. Dropped each off at their respective schools at 8 ish, which aren't really far apart, but you have to cross a highway, and sometimes there is gridlocked traffic local, and on the highway. Real PITA. Then I took the cat in for it's surgery at 0830 "amputated part of his rear right foot/paw" about 2.5 inches.
Went out and took "Bear" our dog to the park as the morning walk was short and for her to do her business only. Brushed her hair, and we chilled for about an hour. Came home and took a nap. Then I picked up my son from school early, as the Pep rally, or whatever there was, was not "cool enough" or something similar at about 2:30. Veterinarian called about 5 minutes after we got home, so I went and got Cheeseball the 3 legged cat after I got out of the shower. Then it was time to pick up my daughter, who was picked up from school by her friends mom, we then had about 30 minutes to chill and off to my daughter's soccer practice where i was until 730.

Wishing your cat all the best, I'm sure with plenty of family love, the recovery will be the best one possible. Give Cheeseball a boop from me, as well.

^^^ Same to the fuzzy ball of cheese from Texas. He'll adapt and overcome for sure. I read about this in another thread and despite how unpleasant this kind of situation is, sounds like you and the family have persevered to give kitty a continued full and happy life.

Oh, and to Jato- Keep the Harley... at least for now. No great depreciation will happen at this point so unless you're 100% sure, I'd say keep it for now and see where your at down the road. Much better to get the itch and be able to scratch it than to not have the opportunity at all.

Agree Goro. The Brits do some hella rally runs.

For me here in Michigan. I'll be taking my front yard track, splitting it into two lanes when running rally, so the track will effectively double in size. being many rallys around here are Tamiya based, I figured we had better make the big crossover jump an easy to cross wooden bridge for both lanes.

This is where its at as of this am. Hoping to finish it up between the rainshowers today.

I'll be adding in some approach lanes. Departures will be small jumps over large gaps at the ends of the bridges each direction.

Those Tamiya will still need to make some jumps off the bridge anyways. lol

Welp I carried the SCX6 300 yards or so. Broke the flimsy panhard link. The dogs couldn't understand why we were stopping every little bit. I had to put the truck down. That sucker gets heavy ya know with 2 4s batteries in it. I have a trail builders pack from Dakine just for that purpose but I had the 40v Kobalt saw in it with a few other tools. We had to replace 2 pine logs over a gully. Luckily 2 dead cedar trees were lying near by.

Oh yeah and deal/put up with the drama of my Daughter really liking this guy that's not worth the trouble.
My girls know I'm here when they need me.

^^^ That's gonna be a ridiculously fun place to play...

Made 4.5 lbs of Asian style baby backs.. started with a mango habenero dry rub cut with Chinese five-spice. Glaze consisted of fresh garlic, ginger, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and cayenne. To me... heat is heat and cayenne is my go to usually. I don't have enough of a palette to be able to distinguish between Thai or Serrano or whatever. Born in Ohio and it shows... where banana peppers are like reapers lol.

Only problem was that all the bones were falling out as I was trying to transfer to plates.

Anyway... after a few hours...

Those ribs look amazing and I'm full. I love me some mango habanero but boy does it kick my ass. I love spicy stuff but my body not so much.

My day off has involved not a whole lot and mostly just letting my poison ivy blistering try to get as much air as possible (day 15 now). The smaller rashes have began to dry out and peel so that's a good sign to healing. The few blisters I've had to pop have just been an annoyance dealing with them trying to dry and keeping it from getting infected. Might have a few ugly scars from it but it is what it is. Also it is a bit easier getting out of bed, being the pain isn't as bad but also just trying to get to the scabbing process (having to sleep with my left shin not touching anything is annoying).

This process has also slowed me down a bit on my RC tinkering, mostly because I try to not sit as long as I usually do and lay down a bit. With that said I've finally watched The Beekeeper with Jason Statham. Badass movie. Currently watching Road House.

Fortunately they weren't too spicy as my insides can't take that abuse... and I don't like anything too spicy anyway because at least for me, that kills off the other flavors. This was a nice slow smokey heat that just barely lingered. Even my wife who doesn't care for spicy food at all, took a second helping.

FWIW- Sorry about your bout with the poison ivy. Sounds like it really got you good. I don't think I've had poison ivy since I was a kid but it was horrible to deal with... that and bad sunburn. I remember when my dad used to burn brush that we kids had to stay away due to the poison ivy smoke. That stuff was everywhere where we grew up.

i used to get poison oak real bad just being around it i would get it
then i moved up in to the mountains and it was everyware my fog would constatly run through it i had it for about 3 months not that bad just consitantly but once that went away i never got it again

what ive found is extremely hot showers helps wash the oils away and then i go as cold as the water gets and that closes the poors up snd the oil dosent seep out as fast ive found it eorks really surprizingly good
it also numbs the skin and stops the itch for a while also helping with the healing proccess

note the heat makes you itch so bad its almost unbearable but the relief it brings is worth it the cold makes it go away really fast its the only relief ive found from poision oak same as poison ive
might be worth a try

The pain is bearable and I don't wash that leg as I have to deal with 2 open blisters that I just use petroleum jelly to protect em. I wish I didn't have the skin break but one of the blisters got as huge as maybe half a ping pong ball lol.
