Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof UPDATE!!!!!

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

So this is the "THING" that I'm supposed to get beat by:lmao: We will see, that is if I have my precious back by next weekend:twisted: Or I may just be forced to borrow a rig and beat ya with it again"thumbsup"

Later,

,

Seriously, I've only comped two times this winter and you've only beat me once..... Geez, didn't think I was gonna have to put my waders on to come back in my own thread:flipoff:.

so how exactly did you lightn it up? swapping the rovers with the sedonas?

Yup, The clapped and siped rovers weighed about 1.5oz less than the rovers so I lost about 6oz in tire weight total, then I took 1 oz out of each front wheel making my total weight bias 5oz per front wheel. So 8oz was lost in just the wheels alone, then with the Delrin links and a few other changes, I lost a total of 9-10oz out of the truck.

I'm VERY confident that I could lose about another 5-6oz out of the truck by switching to all aluminum hardware, TI links, drilling my gears, Aluminum locker, 6mm Hulksta TI rear axles, and having my rear axles turned down and use Axial lockouts on the rear instead of my stock knuckles and brass rcaxlemaster bushing. I'd be looking at about 220-240 bucks to lose that weight and still be unsure if it will work well. I'm happy with where its at right now and am confident that I will not be going ANY lighter at all. If anything, I'll add more weight. The only thing I'm still planning on doing is turning the rear tubes down for axial lockouts and probably the aluminum hardware. Its cheap and easy to do. But I'll only be doing this for clearance on the rear axle and for weight savings on the chassis.

I do have little secret that I'm currently waiting on right now and I hope to have it soon. It will be a very welcomed addition to my truck, and should make it a bit more stable. Lets just say that Don is WAY cool!:shock:8)

My next mod planned is the Axial 8* knuckle mod. I have the knuckles and chubs but am waiting on one little secret part!8) If the 8* setup does not work the way I want it to, I'll promptly be switching back to the stock setup and not looking back. I'm not a fan of knuckle weights but it seems that knuckle weights are about the only way to make the 8* setup work right.
We will just have to see what I can do with them and go from there. I'll be running much less caster with the 8* setup than I do with my standard setup so it will be interesting to say the least.

Micro's sidewinders still holding up good?

Yup, no problems so far (knock on wood). They seem to handle about everything I can ask them to do.

Looks great

Thanks man!"thumbsup"

I comped this truck last weekend at a big GTG at the Boulderhouse in Columbus, OH. The truck worked well, but I just had time management issues. Taking too much time to run cleanly ended up costing me in the end by not finishing courses. The truck did everything I asked it to do, just not as quickly as I had hoped. Traction was a big factor on the rocks out there though. My trusty sedonas were just not hooking as hard as they normally do. The rocks had a fine powdery dust on them that just kept me from finding traction in certain spots.

I just built up a set of Khaos Rovers and i'm excited to try them out! I'm just waiting on a set of wheels from Mayhem to get them all mounted up!"thumbsup"

The truck really did work great though, all the tuning issues I had are now gone and the truck seems really stable. "thumbsup"

When I won there I ran the Khaos reds. How many times do I have to push you to pins? "thumbsup"

What width wheels are you going to use with the Khaos?

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

do u think its time for a new set of sedonas? im sure when they get too used then traction goes away right? im not sure since i have yet to wear my set out(getting close though because of that darned vert board:ror:)

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

what about those sanded rovers??

The rovers really work awesome! But I'm running them TOO light right now. The setup with the rovers weigh in at 5lbs 5oz. If I put more weight in the wheels, I'm sure they will work even better

Planning on using a set of 1" Mayhem Evolution wheels.

Wear them buggers out!! Hot bodies tires tend to get better and better the more you wear them down. I don't care WHO tells you otherwise, they flat hook the more they wear. When you start to notice the carcass of the tire in between the lugs starting to wear, you are just getting them broken in. Most people will throw away rovers or sedonas before they get to this point, but they flat WORK. I don't like buying new Hot Bodies tires because I don't like breaking them in! LOL!!! I'll only buy used ones cause I don't have that much time to put into breaking them in from new.

From what I hear Sedonas do better the more warn down they are....

Yup!"thumbsup"

The "THING" worked good today at our points comp. Didn't get the win, but second place felt good today. There is still a little bit of tuning to get this truck completely dialed. Last weekend I thought it was tire traction, but now I see that it is something a little different. Something in link geometry and shock positioning.:???: Gotta get some more time into it to figure it all out.

I really might have something to do with my driving style and how light I was running the truck. Like I've pointed out earlier in the thread, I'm used to running a 6 to 6 1/4lb truck. I started my first two courses running it at 5lbs 13oz, and it felt OK but after the second course I switched to the clapped rover setup which put me at 5lbs 5oz and the truck just felt light. I don't know whether or not I want to try to learn to drive a light truck or just go back to a heavier setup. I'm thinking around 6lbs with every tire setup will be good. Trying to switch back and forth from light to heavy without tuning the suspension for the change is part of my issues right now. I have to pick a weight and stick with it and tune for that weight.

Totally different truck now!!!!

I must wait before I divulge all my secrets!8)

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

You coming up this weekend for the points comp?

Doubt it.... Kinda kills my points standing I guess but what can I do.

Spending $150 a month just to comp is getting to be too much. I might do one a month but I just can't afford 2 a month especially trying to budget for the US indoor and ECC.

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

Im gonna guess a super cool 4 lb truck???? :ror:

HA!! Yeah right. You know me, I like em thick! Truck weighs 6 lbs right now. Might get a little lighter but no less than 5 3/4lbs. Kinda limited by tire weight and overall axle weight. Trying to keep with my 6-7oz per wheel front bias.
