Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof UPDATE!!!!!

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

Maybe we all just make a trip down to STL and spend some time down there. I will get back to Elephant Rocks at least one more time and Flat Nasty has my name on it..
Looking good Jesse.

When you bringing this Thing to Michigan so my old outdated BJv4 can show it how second feels?

Seriously, you gonna make it on the 11th?

Might have to do that sometime! Elephant Rocks sounds like an awesome spot!!

Thanks Mike! The truck you saw this past weekend wasn't this one.8) It was my BWD Wedge V2 Bodiless chassis. That is in my other build thread.
Wisconsin Rocks are nice but the MN rocks at Taylors Falls and Brighton Beach are AWESOME!! Can't wait to be up there and comping with you guys regularly! It was a great time this past weekend."thumbsup"

LOL!! I'm not sure if I'll make the 11th. With the comp in Columbus the following weekend, it will be hard for me to pony up the gas money to do both. Got to keep tabs on my crawler gas money!:flipoff: Especially since I can't really split it with anyone.

And the next time you see this truck, you'll see it about 30 pts ahead of you at the next comp!:flipoff: Game face time.

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

I'm getting ready to make a few changes to the truck this week.

First, The front axles are getting the 8* Knuckle treatment. I'm not fully committing to it, but I really want to try it out to see if it works for me.

Next, Suspension tuning!!!! I really hadn't had much of a chance to get any tuning done, even though the truck works really well I just want to get it to work better. There are a few things that it does that I am not used to yet, but I can assure you I'll nail em down and get the bugs worked out!"thumbsup"

Finally, I'm going to lighten this Thing up!

I want to see what the truck will do with a little less forward bias and less overall weight.
I have a set of clapped blue rovers that are siped to perfection and I know that these tires alone will drop about 4oz off my truck compared to the sedonas i'm running right now.

I'm hoping to get it down around the 5.25lb range. The weight drop along with the 8* steering is going to be an interesting duo.

Hey Jake, I might just have to make the comp on the 11th to do a shakedown run on the truck to see if I like the way it works."thumbsup" I don't really care how I do at the comp, I just more or less want to see how the truck drives.

Well with all the shit talking.........Leave it alone you know I'm gonna be there right:flipoff: I think the last time we comped I smoked ya by over 40 points:shock: Now that that's said, keep up the good work I love to see all the little changes. That's one thing I'm bad at.

Man. You are weird. .....

Lol! I am making it a point to not make any more bonehead mistakes the rest of the year. I need to slow down and think a little more about my driving instead of just rushing it. No more 40pt victories for you!

I have done a couple days of testing on my berg with non-8 degree and 8 degree steering. It's 5lbs 4oz or 5.25lbs.
See my last post about the 8-degree vs. non 8 degree. Just my findings, I could be missing something with the setup..

Great rig!

Check out the Mirca schedule and see if any dates spark your interest. I know you live in Anderson, and I live about 45 mins north of Ft Wayne. I could meet ya by the Waterloo Exit on 69 if you want. It would be a bit of a drive for ya, but it would make it easier on the both of us as far as fuel goes.

Good luck with the tuning man, hope to see you on the 11th!

Thanks man! Hoping to make it. I have to be able to drive my truck a little before the comp in Ohio.

Wasn't the first time and won't be the last time:flipoff: It will be my mission now to never lose to BWD Team Drivers:mrgreen:

Thanks Shane!"thumbsup" I just finished scoping your thread out. I'm hoping that I can tune some of those attributes of the standard non 8* setup into the 8* setup. Maybe its weight??? Maybe its caster?? Or Offset??:???: Hopefully I can do some in depth testing and yield some decent results. I'm only doing the 8* thing to try it out. I want to see what its all about and how it is different on the berg. My XR worked fine, but the berg is a different creature all together.

Here are pics I took while down there with a bunch of the STL Crawl guys.

Re: Its a Berg THING, You wouldn't understand. By jcboof

Update:

Well, for the past couple of weeks I've been working on my Wedge V2 Bodiless truck. I had neglected the thing quite a bit I must say as I was really excited to get going on the Wedge chassis which has been working VERY well for me lately.

Well, I decided to take some time and give this "thing" some love.

I had a weird unloading problem where either the left or right front wheel would just randomly pop up in the air at times unloading the suspension fully. I knew I could tune it out but wasn't sure where I should start.

I had been running 4mm axle nuts as spacers on my front upper links. Running the upper links with less triangulation will cause a truck to be loose. Now how loose is dependent on the amount of triangulation you take out by spacing at the axle. Some trucks are just WAY too tight as they have a TON of triangulation, But with this truck is is different. With such a narrow chassis, it doesn't leave much triangulation for the upper and lower links. The lowers are Highly triangulated because of the narrow skid but the uppers have a lower level of triangulation. By spacing the front uppers at the chassis, it gives the upper links a bit more triangulation, but it you add spacers at the axles, it somewhat cancels that out.

What I did was take out the spacers giving the front more triangulation and moved the spacers to the rear axle which had none. A little bit of axle steer on a truck is not always a good thing, but if you can learn to use it as an advantage, it works AWESOME!! By adding the spacers to the rear uppers at the axle mount, it decreased the amount of triangulation and loosened the rear end up a little.

Next, shocks. The springs I was running in the front were entirely too soft. They were the Losi Mini-T Pink springs and the Silvers were in the rear.
I moved the Silvers to the front and then since I didn't have any more mini springs, I decided to use a set of full length Losi Golds in the rear.

Finally, I had been running the truck at around 6lbs and it worked well, but I decided to lighten things up a bit. I had made a set of Clapped rovers for the Wedge build and I threw them on the Thing. The truck is weighing in at 5lbs 6oz RTR.
I am still running the stainless uppers, and if I swap them out for the TI links, I should lose at least an ounce on the chassis!!

WOW!!!!!!!! What a difference that made!! The truck is a whole new animal!! Vertical performance is just as good as before, but the truck is a whole lot more stable. Adding triangulation up front and taking a little out of the rear was the ticket to getting this thing right!
Lightening up the truck a little definitely didn't hurt either. The truck balances out a 1/4" in front of the front lower links on the chassis.
I just put two battery packs through the truck outside in 20* weather on cold rocks and this thing was unstoppable! If it works this cold, it should hopefully work in warmer weather too.

Now I am really going to have a tough time figuring out what truck I'm going to drive at the comp in Ohio this weekend!! Its a money comp and I know that this truck will be IN THE MONEY, just don't know If I will!! LOL!!

Heres a couple crappy Iphone pics! LOL!! I'll get my better cam out on tuesday and get some nice Outdoor shots!!
