Gun and knife picture thread!

Nice P30 from H&K 8)
Sadly my personal safety i am bound to leave in the hands of others, and i can not have fun in that way before i have jumped more hoops then a 25 year old seal at sea world.

Time for some upgrades for my beloved 10/22 that I originally built over 20 years ago. I've learned over the past year that feeding the two .308 rifles I built last summer, at least with high end ammo, is a trust funders game, and I love target shooting. Now that .22lr is widely available and relatively cheap again, time to dust it off. Talked my shooting buddy into building one also, and he just happened to clear us out 100yds last week so no more dealing with the public ranges here that are over run with people I'd rather not be around.

KIDD threaded ultra lightweight fluted bull barrel. Hand lapped steel Lothar Walther blank that Tony Kidd sandwiches between a stainless breech and muzzle. Super accurate, without all the weight of my factory 20" hammer forged .920 straight wall bull barrel.

Evolution Gun Works 20MOA rail. You'll run out of adjustment on your scope quickly if you really start stretching out the .22lr round. And we fully plan to stretch them out next trip to GA.

My Vortex scope level (MK was sold out dammit!), and Volquartsen auto bolt release are also here. Just waiting on a couple other parts, and hopefully will be shooting Saturday.

What kind of accuracy at 100 yards are you expecting to get out of your 10/22 with those changes? Are you using subsonic ammo?

My .22LR savage Mark II bolt guns loves Eley ammo and will put it sub MOA at 100 yards if the wind is not too bad.

My favorite rim fire gun that I have is this Savage 93R17. Thing is a laser out to about 150 yards. Ammo is not too expensive either.

It's a sub MOA gun now with the factory bull barrel if you feed it good ammo. Lots of people get sub MOA out of the KIDD ULW barrel, but I know I'm giving up some accuracy, but also shaving 2lbs or so off the gun. If I get around MOA, or just over, I'll be plenty happy with it. Like most things, it's all about what trade offs you're willing to make. I want to go and shoot an Appleseed event, so saving weight for offhand shooting is a big thing. Those are both beautiful guns BTW. "thumbsup"

My goal is to go shoot some 1000 yard ranges (obviously withe neither one of those guns). There is a long distance class I am interested in in NC. I’ve been working up a load for my .243 that will reach out that far and I think I am close.

Yeah, one of these days I'll snag the few reloading items I need to finish up my setup. Maybe then I'll get back to the big bore rifles. I'm slowly working on moving to a different state, once I'm settled there and have more time to focus on other things, reloading seems interesting. Good luck if you go take that class!

After deciding that getting the .243 to go 1000 yards was going to be marginal I traded some other guns that I didn't use any more for this:

It's a Savage Desert Tactical in 6.5 Creedmoor. I mocked it up with my old scope off my .243.

I picked up a Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24 to go on the Ruger .243 and I am putting the Viper PST II on the Savage.

Here is the savage ready to go with the scope and Magpul 5 round magazine.

I have a brake coming next week with the $150 gift card I got with the purchase of the scope from Optics Planet.

Don't think it'll have any issues taming recoil, but I feel for your spotter already.

Yeah, he should be sitting directly behind me, lol. It’s mostly to stay on target after the shot. I have a Henry lever action in 45/70 so the 6.5 is a ***** cat as far as recoil goes.

LOL, yeah, at least with long range the spotter gets to pick their spot. I did a combat carbine course a few years ago with my shooting buddy, and he shows up with an AR with a brake on it. In that class you had to be right next to your shooting buddy at all times. I cussed him all weekend long for being "that guy".

haha, At least this one can be taken off and put back on relatively easy. Everybody at the long range class I want to take has a brake.

Yep, all my long range stuff has a brake if it's threaded. They help for damn sure, both with comfort and shot sighting. That class sounds like fun. Wish I had the time to do it. One of these days.

So I've been slowly updating my 20+ year old 10/22. To be fair, the gun was a tack driver in its old form. But, I have different plans for it moving forward, and I just didn't have the heart to ding up the stock that I can now no longer get. My goals were;

1. Shave some weight off the barrel for better off hand balance
2. Needed a threaded barrel for another upcoming project
3. Get a stock I don't care to scuff and ding up in the woods, NRL matches, etc
4. Better glass

I have pictures of some of the process, but alas, I'm too lazy to post them. So here's the build list and old and new versions of the gun.

Parts list;

Factory Ruger 10/22T receiver and bolt
KIDD 16.5" ultra light weight fluted threaded bull barrel
Volquartsen trigger, hammer, sear and internal springs and shims
Kidd trigger plunger spring kit, radiused and polished plunger
JWH customs extended bolt handle
Victor Company Titan stock w/ cheek riser (innovative action bedding system, great company and customer service!)
Evolution Gun Works 20MOA rail
Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 scope wrapped in Vortex rings w/ Vortex scope level
Harris S-BRM 6-9” bipod w/ S-Lock

Here's the old version

Looks great! What ammo does it eat? Do you have to use the supersonic stuff or will the blow back action cycle with subsonic ammo?

Thanks. I had the barreled action in the old thumbhole stock two weekends ago, and so far of the cheaper ammo I've fed it it really likes the CCI Blazer 40gr lead round nose. My shooting buddy built one up using the same barrel and saw the same results. Gonna run some CCI standard velocity tomorrow which seems to be the go to on a lot of gun boards for reasonably priced, consistent and accurate .22LR.

Had a great day at my buddies private range today with the .22s. Perfect weather, and the new weather meter + Strelock pro was dead on.

My buddy Rob getting ready to shoot steel at 94yds (tried for 100, but the chiggers and yellow jackets won that battle ) off his pig saddle/tripod combo. Strelock pro was dead on at 1.2 mils. The saddle and tripod rock BTW. Steel is circled in red
