Food/Cooking

Last weekend we went back down to Chicago. The wife, my sister, and "my no-brudder-good-in-law from Illinoiss" all conspired to get me a surprise birthday gift last month of tickets to see Alton Brown's Edible Inevitable Tour.

It was actually a very entertaining show. The comedic skits/rants were funny, (the 'chicken fingers' story was hilarious). The cooking demonstrations were amazing. Big surprise for me that night were the musical acts. Had no idea Mr. Brown was so adept on both the guitar and sax. If you're familiar with the show Good Eats, the legal team of Itchy & Twitchy..... the scrawnier, younger looking one, was on drums. The songs were just made-up goofy stuff kinda like what you'd expect from Weird Al Yankovic, but they sounded a LOT better than Weird Al's stuff usually does.

Earlier in the day we went for brunch at Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes. Great tasting food. So much so, that I managed to fill up completely and never made it to the baked potato bar, didn't get any flatbreads, and believe or not, I couldn't even make it to the deserts bar. Shah! Me....... passing up on brownie bites? That soup bar did me in, man.

On the way home we swung by Superdawg at their Wheeling location. (we had been to the Chicago location on a previous visit) "Good stuff, Maynard."

Hopefully when you guys are making up these delicious vittles, you too have the camaraderie that turns a pot of food into a meal. Keep it up, Gents, some pretty good lookin' stuff goin' on out there.

Progress.. Steaks, mashed potatoes, mushroom/onion red wine sauce.

End result. Was fantastic.. I'll not be a bonehead and add more stock in the sauce too late next time, but it was good enough for a first try.

Smoked a shoulder last night. Nothing too crazy, but the little "EXTRAS" you get sometimes make it that much better!

Some pigskin "Cracklins". Smokey, dry rubbed pig jerky goodness! :flipoff:

My dad and I went to the show when he was in the Denver area a few weeks ago, we had no idea what to expect going into it. We had a great time and loved the show.

Check the schedule and if he's coming to your town try and get tickets.

Alton Brown Tour

no pictures but we made some awesome crock pot sesame chicken last night.

3-4 boneless chicken breasts
3/4 C honey
1/3 C soy sauce
2 T ketchup
2-3 cloves minced garlic
1 t red pepper flakes
s&p

put some s&p on the chicken, and into the crock pot. Mix the 5 other ingredients above and pour over chicken. Cook on low for 3 hrs. Take out chicken and shred. Mix 2 tsp corn starch and 3 tbsp water, pour into cooking liquid. Put chicken back in for 10 minutes while you make some rice to go with it.

Not as good as the real thing, but pretty close and way healthier. "thumbsup"

Made a quick 10 min stir fry wanna be thing a bob tonight. I'll have to try it with all fresh ingredients soon, I cheated I bit. But it was good for a late "didn't want fast food" dinner.

While I was working on my comp crawler my wife decided to make me a homemade chicken pot pie! The house smelled awesome while she was making it, and the overall product was superb ! It was the first time she has attempted this and for being only 24 years old she's a damn good cook! I liked it a lot!
