Fallen's Optic Kit

I bought this kit for my son Samuel for Christmas. He's currently 6 years old. Out of all of my kids (I have 5) he's the only one who enjoys RC crawling, scale details and careful, realistic driving. So he got an H10 kit for Christmas. Everyone else got coal.



And he got the red, Eibach livery. Which I'm pretty thankful for. And he is excited about it. My Miller Motorsports truck will have a 1.9 wheeled partner now.

Here he is working on Bag A (the front axle). This will probably take us weeks to build, as he isn't skilled enough to move quickly through a build like this. But hopefully he will be in 10 years...

That's awesome congrats to your Crawling Bud .... an Optic is a great Xmas present and the lessons and memories learned through building it with you will be unforgettable for him... Congrats on being a good father to your kids man.

Unfortunately, I haven't figured that out. Out of my 5 kids, only one really likes RC cars. The rest don't.

One of my kids likes to surf with me. The rest don't.

Three of my kids like to ride motorcycles with me. The rest don't.

I've tried to get all of them into everything. I can't explain what made the ones choose what they did. I definitely tried too hard at times, and that didn't work.

People love what they love. You can't force it to happen and you also can't stop it once it does happen.

Not much too look at here, as this is an extremely basic Optic Kit build.

But this may be helpful to someone:

As @Col_Sanders mentioned in the "Optic Kit Coming" thread, the front, passenger's side link mount needs to be shaved for a Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion SE 1800KV motor / ESC combo to fit on the skid plate.



The inboard side needs a very slight shave. 5 minutes with a bastard file was more than enough.



And, fortunately I had a stock of old programming boxes sitting around on my shelf. This old Dynamite programming card works with the Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion SE. The Fusion system comes with the new sticker so you can see the programming map.



Almost there. Shocks, links & chassis left to go.

Another HW Fusion SE tip:

Mount the motor with the wires protruding on the passenger's side of the skid. There isn't enough space on the driver's side for the wires to clear the front driveshaft.





And take that Vanquish Origin! A metallic looking cage without paying $4K.





I know it's not as cool, but this is as close as I'll ever get to a full-metal tube chassis. And the Krylon Fusion Metallic colors are even more durable than the non metallic colors they offer.

Another HW Fusion SE tip:

That's the only way to mount it IMO.

Unfortunately I mounted mine with the wires protruding from the driver's side, then had to rotate it once I installed the front driveshaft.

And I should be able to post finished photos in a week or so. All we have left on this Optic is installing the axles, shocks and building the freshly painted cage.

Thanks for sharing, it’s great your boy has taken an interest in it.

I’ve taken my 6 year old out driving dozens of times since he was 3 and it wasn’t until the most recent outing that it actually clicked for him and he was shocked at how much fun he was having trying to conquer obstacles.

IMO all we can do is put good activities in front of them and hope they take to something. It’s too easy to let them watch tv and play video games.

We finished this truck several months ago, and have been driving it with a 13T pinion and the 1800KV motor on 3S.

My son's birthday gave rise to the opportunity for me to buy him the Terra Bug kit from Knight Customs. Brian W on the forum here printed it and sent it to me.



We finished installing the panels today. We also geared up to a 16T pinion. We then commenced to stickering it up using left over stickers from my stash.



The kit went together easily as planned. The only change the instructions need is to have you glue the air filter on AFTER you install the engine into the chassis. The duct blocks access to one of the installation screws.



My son wanted to keep the stock interior. He also really likes the power tank, but the new radiator can't fit with the tank in the stock location. I moved it to the passenger seat, as there's really no room for a passenger anyway.

Thinking the 11t would be plenty at 3k. Which is what I have to put in my Origin when it gets here.

With the 1800KV motor, the 16T is more than enough for this buggy to "jump" up and over things. I'm struggling to be comfortable with my 6 year old driving it. I'm with Timmahh that 11T is a great place to start with 3000KV.

And thanks for the compliments. All I did was install the panels, and supply the stickers. My son even decided most of the sticker placement.

I didn't print them so I don't know what filament this is, so hopefully Brian W will chime in and answer that question.

Cool to see all the different schemes of Terra Bug’s. I printed that kit for my Optic, but haven’t yet decided which color scheme to go with.

The cage looks great too in the close up pic. The metallic paint makes it look so much better!

Thanks! Krylon Fusion's Metallic Dark Metal is awesome for cage painting.

It's easy to apply too, you have to fuck up pretty bad for mistakes to show. The only hard part is being patient. It needs several days to cure before you start being rough with it.
