My Two Optics

Since Vanquish has been out of bronze 2.2 Sierras for a long time, i haven't been too motivated to get finished with this build. Fortunately, the guy i sold my Carbon fiber panels to had a set of them and he sold them to me for a fair price. I should have them by the end of the week.

With motivation restored, its back to the build. Next was servos. I had 3 spares here but i couldn't decide what to use. Since I'm going to be converting my Carbon to BTA and Holmes new Cralwmaster V2, i decided to go ahead and pull my old style SHV650 from the Carbon and replace it with the low profile BMF1095L. Then I pulled the SHV650 from my Phoenix and installed a Shift X2 in its place. So my Optic will have dual SHV650s.

Have you had much experience with the 1Tenth servos? This is a relatively new-to me brand.

And here we are in current state. If @JatoTheRipper will look close, he will notice my mix of stainless and black oxide screws because i ran out of black 20mm cap heads. Currently running SEMA approved driveshafts. Will mess with that later.

For 4ws, the rear lower crossmember has to be removed. The huge fuel cell would also need to be cut or removed. A low profile servo on the rear at least would be a good idea.

Haha! A white van will soon be at your house. Inside, there will be a bunch of people in lab coats and one straight jacket for you! 🤣

Looks great. You inspired me to turn my ass around, move to my other chair and get to working on mine.

After i posted that i swapped out the other 4 capheads in the skid to stainless so at least they all match. I really miss screw loose hardware. His packs were sold in plastic containers all separated and labeled. Soooooo much better than KNK's plastic baggies. I wish i had bought way more before he closed shop.

Never ordered any of his stuff because it seemed expensive. That is nicely packed though. Shame it's gone. I don't see many brands offering high quality hardware in compartmentalized containers these days. Dynamite and Yeah Racing do. Dynamite only offers SS I believe and I have no experience with Yeah Racing hardware to speak about their quality. I don't think Team KNK has the highest quality of fasteners either, but Mike is a super nice guy.

Apparently I orders a set of these in button head and another in countersink. Haven't even opened them yet. I will advise of the quality when I start using these.

I have had pretty good luck buying bolts on Amazon for rc truck sized stuff(using my parents' prime account for free shipping helps quite a bit).

I had one bad experience with some m2.5 shcs. I think the batch was bad and had a burr in the first thread which strips out the mating female thread if it's a softer material (aluminum or plastic). So I ended up ruining a cheap eBay wheel hub before realizing what was happening. Cheap enough to throw the bolts away and get another batch from a different listing that worked fine.

I'm not so sure I'd use Amazon bolts on my bikes, motorcycle or car, etc where I like to know the bolts' specifications and that it actually meets those.

Those kits look like a good deal if you need a supply of bolts though.

What day is better than nudie magazine day? New wheel day! Been waiting on these 2.2 Battle Born Sierras to be in stock since I bought my kit, but it hasnt happened. Got lucky and scored a set from the fellow who bought my carbon panels.

Unfortunately, i only had one pair of .600 hubs so gotta order more, along with scale hardware. I decided not to use the injora inserts and instead am using 3 brothers v2 antifoams.

I dug around in my parts bins and found an aluminum pair of .600 hubs so now she's a roller. The .600s are just wide enough to allow full lock on the steering without the tires hitting the links. I do however feel that they are too wide. Probably going to drop down to 12mm.

Awesome looking rig! I'm not the biggest bronze wheel fan, but they look perfect here.

I was also afraid those hubs would be too long/wide for my liking and I'm glad I didn't get them. Thanks for confirming.

I like bronze wheels in general, but these are my favorite. They don't have the matte finish like Vp's other bronze wheels. I've got a set of 1.9s on my shelf queen 410 Pro that is modeled after my JLU Rubicon.

I've also got a set of chrome 2.2 Shift Mavericks that I mocked up on here and they looked really good.

Got my shipment from lockeduprc.com today. Brass .475 hubs and some scale hardware. I didnt pay enough attention when ordering to see the tool size for the 1/64 screws. It's not the same as the vanquish hardware. Got one wheel switched over using the screw head as a wrench but that's a painfully slow way to do it.

The .475s narrowed it to a more reasonable width.
