Jato Gets Offerings to Build the Teal Terrifier H10 Optic

I'd like to see the appropriately scale sized shock dyno data on that.
I know what you're saying. I don't understand how the taper would affect anything either. There is some information on this thread:

Well there you go. The guy with the dyno shows no difference.

Start reading at post #19 on page 2 of the thread.

Thick or thin piston makes a difference, but not directionally. But it pretty much just did the same thing as changing the weight of the oil.

Yeah I saw it and read the entire thread, but didn't specifically point it out because I'm not going to assume that guy knows how to properly use the equipment. Test results are only as good as the person running the test.

I used 50wt oil in all but the rear passenger shock. That one i did 60 wt to help with torque twist.

On the shock subject....team losi shock oil is colored so when you forget wtf you put in them, you can just look at it and tell quickly.

digging those teal panels, any clue to how far the first run is away?
Thank you. They color looks even better in person IMO. It is somewhere near my TF2, which OSRC pointed out, and my Raspberry Blue Honda Grom. The Vanquish color is definitely more minty green though.

We have snow on the ground and it's been the coldest week of the winter with freezing temps and sometimes negative with the wind chill. I'm a skinny old man that despises cold so this one isn't getting run anytime soon! The build though, will be done sooner rather than later. Stay tuned! 😁

Wow there's that much torque twist? I kinda figured as I spotted it in some videos.

That is a good idea to color the oil. I should switch to Losi. But it's Horizon so I can order it today and I will probably receive it in 2026! 😜

Whatever suspension oil you use you should either stay within the same brand and product line if just going by the weight of the oil or try to find Centistoke (Cst) data for each oil. One companies 50wt is another's 30 wt. I only buy fluids that give a CsT measurment since this is an actual measurement of viscosity and I can know if I am changing to more or less damping. Weight of oils otherwise is random by manufacturers.

This goes the same for shock fluids for other types of vehicles as well. I think automotive engine oils have standards for the different weight callouts so "weight" of engine oil actually means something and can be compared.

Factory Team and Racer's Edge shock oils both list the CsT for each weight. Not the same weight for a certain Cst but I buy both of these by Cst value to get a tuning range.

Take my info on tapered vs flat pistons or not. I only spent hundreds of hours sitting in front of a computer and dyno figuring shit like that out for myself. Our lab tech even made valved RC car pistons for his cars because the shit people sold saying this or that didn't do this or that (and because he could).

A tapered piston with the slots at the edges plus a hole in the body of the piston and a valve on one side that covers the hole, and then you have a set up that will have different damping on rebound and compression. Actually pretty easily done now that I think about it.

Also, simple orifice damping that all the crawler shocks have is pretty poor but functional. Pretty much not enough damping at slow speeds, too much damping at high speed, ok somewhere in the middle. It's like the cheap damper rod motorcycle forks that only have holes for fluid to flow through. Wallow at low speed, harsh at high speeds.

Are you all ready for this? 😁

I think the Machetes look perfect on this rig. So glad I found them. I love the design of these wheels! Definitely one of my favorites. I can't believe China hasn't made good clones yet.

The blue shock bits look OK. I think red would have been better as an accent color. We will see how it all looks after I install the decals which I'm not looking forward to. I think I'll just stick them on rather than try water slide or whatever other techniques are out there. Honestly, the rig looks pretty cool as-is and it's almost a shame to cover up most of it with black decals from the Throttle Therapy livery. But I guess decals can always be removed if they aren't crap quality where they tear and the adhesive separates from the paper.

Thread title changed!

Jato Gets Offerings to Build the Teal Terrifier H10 Optic instead of Jato Tries to Salvage a Methed-Out Shitbox H10 Optic.

Teal Terrifier...I like it! 😁

Rig looks good without the decals ... the wheels fit right at home ... with the blue accents it reminds me of the falken livery.
Interesting thought. It could definitely be Falken.

Looks fantastic. I see what you mean with the shock caps but they still look good.

I also agree with less decal cover up. You could do some adhesive white pinstripes. I bought some inepensive dental autoclave tape in a bunch of colors that is super thin and flexible. Easy to take off if you don't like it, etc.

You are also quite close to US forest service colors. You can get the decals on Etsy. I bet you are closer to it than my truck.

Thank you, sir!

I'm going to decal it up and hope they can be peeled if I don't like it. Now that Vanquish released all the panels and livery decals, I have other options too. This, along with not having the correct paints, is why I didn't bother painting the interior yet.

That Jeep looks good in the similar color with the white accents for sure.

Good looking shocks with the blue accents. Hopefully the internet was wrong and they will provide a nice smooth leak free ride.

Yeah, I too struggled a bit with the interior. First problem was getting the body, arms and steering wheel to work together, then realized I forgot to install the head. Back apart because the head bolts in thru the body. Jeesh!🙄

Rig looks great all buttoned up in teal. Great choice on wheels too. Oh and nice Hyundai as well. I recently saw a Santa Cruz at my local Sam’s Club and instantly thought it was a Subaru until I got up close to the rear and saw the name. I saw it and thought of the Brat with the jump seats in the bed from back in the day.

The Vanquish decal sheets should peel off very cleanly if they are at all like what comes on the RTR.

I peeled mine off, they're vinyl and they stretched a bit and then peeled right off without leaving any residue behind, making it very easy for me to lightly scuff the panels and shoot them with the Krylon Fusion FDE that I used.

Oh good I'm glad it wasn't just me. Just sorry my struggles were your struggles! LOL

Thank you all around! In regard to my Hyundai truckster, I love it. I don't need to pretend I go off-road and it is comfortable and handles more like a car or on-road SUV. It is like an SUV with a short bed. Perfect amount of utility for me on 362 days of the year. Very rarely do I want for a larger bed. And the little thing flies for what it is! I do wish for a better aftermarket, but that will never happen with such a niche vehicle, and the HVAC is touch controls and it should be physical controls. They fixed that for 2025, but now I like they look slightly worse with the changes to the outside.

Good to hear.

Damn, that's a sharp looking rig. I really dig the little touches and details that personalize it and make it your own. Those clear Machetes look perfect with the teal.

Seeing awesome builds like these are making me reconsider my initial take it or leave it reaction when I first saw the RTR optic. I might have to get one now.

Nooooo! You changed the thread title. I liked the Methed out shitbox variant. It always made me laugh
Thanks! I did it out of respect for the guys that generously contributed to this build!

Thank you! Yeah the Optic is the hot kit right now it seems. It’sa pretty fun build. Won’t be fun to work on with the 12 screws you have to remove in order to completely disconnect the cage from the skid plate and the shocks. But I just love the look of the Optic. Best looking buggy kit ever IMO. I’m excited to drive it. Performance doesn’t seem great though because of the long wheelbase and big skid plate, but should be fun for trails.
