Diving into an optic

Wheels mounted on the Rtr rig. They fit the build good.

The scale hardware on the ring is a nice touch. But, i wasn’t about to screw and tighten them all in with the supplied tool. Attached the locked up scale hardware tool via scotch tape to my 2.0 min driver for my gyro dewalt driver lol. Way faster and less of a pain.

Wheels/ tires put on both rigs. Swapped servo on Rtr to the nsdrc and the kit one got the stock one for now.

Now I’ve got to swap the gears in the Rtr rig for the overdrive ones. And it’s back to parts shopping for them both lol

I cannot stand usps. Ground shipping, ordered Tuesday from rpphobby, arrived today.

Priority shipping from Amain hobbies, ordered Sunday, still sitting in our dispatch facility in the city. Still has to get to my local post office to deliver. I’m very impatient lol. But I’ll never understand how rpphobby delivers so quickly.
I know what you mean about USPS. I've had multiple packages just sit at depots, just hours away, for days. I've also had packages shipped from the Harrisburg depot to the Philly location and then back and forth a couple of times before being delivered. That's what you get when the government and the union are involved...

Oh it drives me nuts! Just bounces around at the hubs and if you’re lucky they will deliver it a week after it was supposed to be there. Our old driver was great though, our new one, not so much. Throws (literally, have them on our cameras) packages on the porch, which you have to toss over a rail to do it lol.

Well I made a mistake.

Not realizing the Rtr diff spools/ gears are one piece, unlike the kit versions that the ring gear bolts to the spool.

So, I did what any sane person would do who wants to drive one of the rigs, semi built. I robbed the diffs out of the kit version, installed the underdrive gears in the rear and just swapped 3rd members in the front.

Now the kit has the Rtr gears and the Rtr has underdrive gears. 🤘🏻

Annnnnd the Rtr shock on the front is leaking like crazy! We’re just gonna mark that one as “rust prevention”

Nah, I’ll just grab some new shocks. Kinda wanted some anyway

Only 1 out of 3 is pretty good!

The wheel and tire choice on the sparco rig look really good

With all things considered, yes lol. Now, I’m contemplating just rebuilding this one. Been searching for shocks and there is just none that stick out I like.

Thanks! It’s hard to pick wheels/ tires online but these ones turned out perfect for it.

Decided that the fusion 1800kv wasn’t going to be enough for the rig I plan on driving a lot.

I ordered a Holmes hobby 10 shooter 2700kv sensored motor, mamba micro x2. That should be here in a few days as Holmes is only about 3 hours from me.

Also, ordered this, and idk why. I wanted it but now I’m contemplating my decision. Front won’t be here for 2 weeks. Plastic obviously slides over rocks better so I may just keep it as a spare, in the event I break one of the plastic housings.

Wrap came in. Exactly how I wanted it! Super excited about this. I wanted something no one else has and being my favorite trail soda of all time, it just had to be done.

Also, added headlights. Just bought a set on Amazon, 18mm and they fit good. There is a small gap around the bezel but I’m fine with that. Once meus light bar/ chase bar gets stocked, I’ll grab those for it as well.

Hood was rather tricky being 3 pieces but it worked out. Heat gun helped a lot but I didn’t wanna screw it up taking it off one more time.

Well I was going to make a post asking if overdrive machined gears were worth it in the optic but I just went ahead and did it. I figure it’ll lighten the rotational mass while being stronger, with the added overdrive. If anyone who is smarter than I when it comes to ratios knows what the actual overdrive will be with the overdrive trans gears and the rear axle underdrive machined gears, let me know.

$175 for overdrive machined gears for t case, lightweight machined gears for front, aluminum standoffs, lightweight vp motor plate and slipper eliminator, might be a bit much but I believe it’ll be worth it in the long run. Hopefully it’ll run more efficiently. If I can get just a little bit more run time on these small 3s lipos I’ll be happy. Typically, in my “LCG, second hand trail truck” I will get about an hour- hour and quarter run time. I’d be perfectly happy with that. Haven’t weighted the trucks to see, but I’m sure the optic is heavier at this point.

Fyi, you can typically find a fully upgraded transmission from the vrd carbon kits for sale for around the cost of your listed upgrades. Then you've got a complete spare trans for another project.

I didn’t realize they had the all the upgrades like the light weight gears and motor plate in them. I saw a couple but didn’t wanna chance not getting what I wanted, just because they don’t show pics of them opened up. They were still around 140$ for the ones I saw.

I would have definitely bought one if they had all the parts I grabbed if it was a better deal!

you should end up around 32% o/d total with that setup
