Dingo Body needs.... something.....???

I love me these SCX kits. Hell, I have about a dozen now...

But I never did care for the Axial Dingo body.
It just always looked like it was missing something to me,
being an open-top tuber.

I guess because I am just north of Buffalo NY
in the Eastern coast snow belt, that anything without a heater
and a top on it just looks strange to me.....

So I set about to make it more "East Coast" looking.

My biggest problem now-a-days is picking colors for my new builds.
I am trying to choose colors I have not used before....
But I have a LOT of rigs, and most have several bodies,
so I mixed up some custom paint that the actual Defenders used.
(see paint chip pic, I am leaning towars the old school LR pale green,
or the black on orange tiger stripe I will post a pick of...)

I built a pickup style top for the dingo to fill it out,
but I know it does not have the slope-up towards the back like OEM.
I built it, and the doors/rear panel to snap in and out so
I can just change things around when I finally grow
the balls to buy a brazing tourch kit, and build a better roof rack.

I just didnt want a bunch of shoegoo holding it together....

The panel snaps and interior of the panels will be painted black,
so they wont be very noticible through the windows
against the black tube framing.

I also frabricated some PSP plate recovery ramps.
I hope to make moulds out of them to cast in resin,
because BELIEVE ME!, after making just the two
of them, I AM DONE farting around with them!!!
And I would like more for my other rigs.

I had to do them all by hand because I dont even have
one of those tiny table-top drill presses,
and my fingers hurt all the way up to the top of my shoulders!!!!

Anyway, wanted to get some input from the RCC members
about what I have done so far before I go any farther.

Let me know what you think, while I still have time to change things
to keep it as "scale" as possible, from people that know about such things.

Stock "NEW" Dingo kit with:

Axial CVD front axles
HS 645MG servo
Novak Rooster Crawler ESC
Integy 35t lathe motor
Spectrum DX2.0 radio
Lower links shortened by 3mm...
(because Axial cant read a ruler anymore, I guess?)
custom fit styrene wheel wells soon to follow.

Ill just dump all the pics in a row........

OK. I GIVE UP!

I cant get pics to post no matter what I do...........................

Folks have helped me in the past to put the pics up in the thread,
I can only pray someone does it again!

If I use the links in photobucket, RCC just tells me its an invalid format,
and I just tried to copy the header links into the post.

That posting pics for dummies link dont do me any good,
'cause im stupid, not a dummy.

Wish somebody would explain it in English, instead of "NET SPEAK"
for us over 50 crowd that just dont get it......

AAARRRRGGGG!!!!!!!

Click on your picture. Click share. Click get link code, copy the code where it says post to forum

While viewing the album in PhotoBucket just hover your mouse pointer (you know...the arrow or hand that moves around when you move the mouse;-)) over the picture you want to post (without clicking anything)...scroll the pointer down to "IMG code" and then click on it and it will say "copied" then just paste it in your thread.
Good luck

Great fabrication! Going look awesome. What did you use to get such clean cuts on the styrene?

Ill try all that, but I get so defeated for all my efforts,
eventually I just give up.......

And I just want to share my stuff to show how
much inspiration I get from this place.

For me, posting pics is like getting kicked in the teeth
so many times, I dont have a jaw left to smile and walk away......

If you can make that out of styrene you can power through figuring out how to post pics..come on you can do it!
the body is looking good though

Thank You.

Its common practice tho...

I use the BACK edge of an Xacto blade against a steel ruler,
and go half way through the styrene, then snap it back/apart.
(always "leave the line" to sand down to spec)

After that you just go nuts with a good sanding strip,
which can be those nail file boards, or bigger boards
you can make yourself with regular sandpaper and flat strips of wood,
for bigger, longer surfaces.

The trick is to use a back-light, and check to be sure you are
keeping an even line.

I eyeball the whole even line thing by holding the piece up to the back-light.

I love the top! I plan on trying to do something similiar for my dingo but I'd like to make a full length cover. I just built my first kit so I'm doing a lot of research/etc... (mostly on this site) on styrene. How did you make the loops and how did you get those nice curves in the roof?

thanks!!!

I dont get it?

I got pics to work on the test forum, ONCE!

But after I got a new computer with Win7 64bit and Explorer 9,
I never could get a pic to post again........

I quarter-cut some round styrene tubeing by hand to get
a 1/4 round strip, and wet glued it to the side end of the roof panel.

Cut the round tube in half first, then the two pieces in half again,
to get the quarters.

I did it by hand with an Xacto razor saw, but I have to tell you,
Its very difficult to do it without sawing your finger to the bone.

One slip, and its a trip to the hospital for stiches...........

The trick here is to saw backwards, with the back end of the saw teeth,
(pull, dont push, the blade through the styrene)

It takes longer, but you can control the cut line better,
and the blade dont grab and skip out on you like it can
using the teeth forward-cut.

The loops (clamps) are just round tube cut in half,
and glued on while holding tightly in place.

the door panels and rear piece slide on to the tuber frame,
but the tuber frame has to come off the body first.

The roof panel snaps on, because I cut back the loops
just enough to hold it on after I glued them on. (1/4 loop)

Nah....keep the pics coming. Its not a biggy to click a link. I was only trying to help ya out because you asked.

Im still trying over on the test forum.

Ya want to truly help me,
post up my pics LOL!!!

The guys on the FOFF forum know my problems with pics,
and just do it by proxy, without even asking LOL LOL!!!!!

I dont know how they do it tho...

Oh, and I wondered if people thought the PSP sand plates looked better on the top behind the roof,
or along the sides behind the door out to the tailgate?

I built them for on the sides, only to find they fit the roof perfectly too.......

Now, just like a color, I cant decide what looks best?

I can rope tie them to the top, but the side mount idea will need mounting hooks fabricated,
and I want to get this build done with LOL!

Then again, if people say go for the orange tiger stripe paint over the pale green OLD SCHOOL,
I will be quite busy doing that layout for a few days, and can worry about PSP boards later!

Cogfounder, I'm not sure this'll work, but in your first post...open it to edit and put some IMG tags in front of and behind each pic link.
Should look like this...
PHP:
[img]your URL for the pic[/img]

See if that'll embed it.

I see this on photobucket, but dont know which one to
copy/paste/link/or pull???

And believe me, I have tried them all several ways.

WebHelp

I swear, I dont have these issues posting pics on ANY OTHER WEBSITES,
from any hosting sites.

Just RCC......

Every place else, its just a click and DONE.
