Dingo Body needs.... something.....???

I really like the work you're doing. I wanted to do wheel wells and I saw your work and it inspired me to do the same. Mine will be a little different in size. I've installed by batteries on the rails and I had to bring the walls in some.

Thanx rik "thumbsup"

juswin24,
post up some pics in this thread of what you
come up with, or at least a link to your own build post if you do one.

I would love to see what you end up doing, as I have a few rigs with batts on the rails also.

FWIW, I finally replaced my card reader so I can easily post up pics again, and I am getting back the urge to start working on my Defender again....

I still have a bunch of detail work to do, and have had some time to come up with fresh ideas.

Sometimes the best thing you can do on a project is put it away for a while, get rid of the stale ideas that were bogging down your build, and then pick up where you left off with a renewed perspective...........

The front wells are drying now. I overlooked the fender flares and the piece on the back. They barely fit. Once it all drys I'll work on the fit. I'll get some pics up here in a day or two.

I have not put on the flares yet, and may not even use them, but I built these wells a bit over sized so they would fit around/over the flares inner mounting piece.

I tend to cut my wells a little short width wise, and use soft 2mm craft foam sheets glued to the outer edges of the wells to take up the gap so the hard well material does not scrape the paint off the inside of the body, plus some vinyl tape on the body itself so dirt on the foam wont "sand" off the paint too.

If you have to trim your wells down, you might be able to use this idea to close up the gap between the well and body to keep the crud out of the insides, and off of your electronics and gears etc...

Looking forward to your pics!!

Awesome build so far, love that you have such great modeling skills. I wish I had the time to put so much detail into my builds (barely have time to run them). Nice to see there are guys on here near me.

Im actually in the Falls, so maybe we could get together sometime for a fun run. I just bought a pretty fair HD camcorder and Im dieing to use it on some real scale trail adventures!

Would love to at least hear if you know any good trail/crawl spots around us.

Not much near me, but The Three Sisters Islands on Goat Island at the Falls is a killer trail/crawl spot, especially in spring before the ground cover grows in thick, and you cant beat the atmosphere with the thundering sound of the Falls 100 yards away!

There is a nice small spot at our city boat launch too, but its rip-rap at the edge of the little Niagara river, so only good for SERIOUS comp crawlers.

Past that I look for spots while driving around with a few rigs in the trunk, keeping an eye out for road work and construction sites, and use Google Earth and Bing Maps to scope out places to run.

Are there any RC stores in Lockport anymore?

Every RC shop in this town closed down, and the ones in Buffalo are too far to make it worth the trip, and dont carry scale/crawler stuff anyway....

Here is a couple of pics of my first try. I've trimmed about 1/8" off the edges for the body clear a little easier when putting on.

This pic shows how close it is. It looked good without the flares on. I forgot about the back piece of the flares.

Keep the pics coming.... I really want to see
how your build evolves.

I really need to start my build thread. I've just been working on my dingos. I think I'll do dual build thead since I've been building them back to back.

This is my first build. Funny thing is I paint it to match my 4x4 F-150 and it turns out looking like the color as the dingo on the box!

I love it :) How did you make the diamond plating? I'm just getting back into Scalers. I picked up this D90 a while back and always wanted to make a scale version

Great build man. I wish I could do these thing. It must cut cost a lot being able to make your own parts insteading of just buying everything.

But KauseKaos, YOU CAN DO THESE THINGS!!!!

Sometimes the hardest part is convincing yourself
to go buy a pack of styrene sheets and giving it a try....

OH MAN! Thats a killer looking D90.

The diamond plate comes ready made.
Several companies make it in different scales.

I like the 1/48 scale, the 1/16 looks to big/spaced out too far apart. Stuff comes in double diamond also,
and a bunch of other interesting pre-molded patterns.

Plastruct and Evergreen are two that come to mind,
and Tower carries it.

I even picked some up some off-brand type in the
model section of Hobby Lobby a while ago.
It was not as good quality as the above two types I mentioned, but useable.

Time will tell, cause i would like to try.... But Wait even the small parts were made out of Styrene. So what was that putty for, I'm gonna read through your thread after work.

I haven't really thought about places to crawl. I have the industrial park by my house or maybe Bond Lake.

There are no hobby shops in lockport there days. Eds Hobby closed down years ago after the fire he had. There is a very small one run by Clarence Ragland, but he mostly deals with planes.

I allways try to make the best out of the bodies that come with the kits.
But Ill tell ya, this Dingo shell out of the box is one ugly looking truck!

Thats why I decided to throw some ideas and styrene at it.
I wont know if I like it untill its done, put it looks promising so far.

I love the durability of lexan bodies, but they can look a little
cartoon-ish without some added detail, especially compared
to the hard bodies out there.

Im kinda ruff on my rigs once they are built,
so I cant see myself spending a ton of money and time
on a hard body, when I can just dress up a tuff lexan
body to look passible.

Besides, its fun to make all your own detail parts!
And I have had good luck on some of my other scalers,
all with cheap old lexan bodies, and home made details...

Yeah, I do. Here is a link to a youtube walk-around
that you can just pause to look at the different pics.

BUT, I hope it links OK! I have been having an odd issue
where I copy and paste the correct links,
but it leads to the wrong videos. I read others are
having this problem too tho...

BTW, I cut right on the bodies well lines, and didnt enlarge them any.
I went for a more scale flex and limited the suspension travel instead.
This truck build was not for crawling, more of a stock street/trail driver...

I remember ED's. Has to be 25 years ago or more last time I went there tho. Didnt know he closed because of a fire. What a shame.

Is Clarence Ragland that "Fly before you buy" shop?
I found out about that place and marked it on Google Maps
thinking I might like to visit the shop some day.

Hope this link works. Its a crap quality vid I made at
Three Sisters Islands to test filming while I ran.
I built a mount on my radio to put the camera on,
but its tough to drive and film at the same time....

3sisters - YouTube

Its long and boaring, but shows the terrain out there.
Hope it inspires you to think about getting together for a fun run!!!
