Hello everyone! I'd like to get some people together for a gathering at Vasquez Rocks State Park. Maybe we can have a small BBQ, set up some gates and have a mini scale comp? Either way, I'll be out there that day.

I can help out with meat/soda/chips/cookies and such for the BBQ if we all decide to do it. (I personally don't have a portable BBQ, but might be able to ask a friend if they have one.)

I think it would be GREAT if we could get a few of the SoCal RC groups all together in one place for nice run. (and possibly a small comp.)

I'm talking about you Temecula Valley Scale Crawlers and YOU Official Beach City Crawlers!!

Let's all gather together, meet one another, swap stories and eat some DAMN good BBQ and CRAWL!!!!! 8)

For the comp if we decide to do one. :ror:

Comp classes
1.9 rigs
2.2 rigs
comp rigs

extra points for scale items (to be deducted from total score)
everything is a timed event

If I get some help in setting this up, we can actually register rigs, get more detailed with the scoring and classes. I know my better half would be down to help out. I'm sure I could get some manufactures to send us some stuff for giveaways and prizes.

Yes I am aware of the other threads on this forum with comp rules, and if we have a large enough interest, we will implement more of the standard rules.

What do you all think? Thoughts? Opinions?

To my knowledge this has never been done or attempted at Vasquez Rocks.

I suggest sharing this post with your friends. Let's get more Renegade Rock Runners to join the GTG. Make it an event to remember.

check with the rangers and make sure its cool it would suck to see you put all this together and have problems. the reason you have never seen this done there is because of some rules and legalities we ran into a few years ago when wanting to put something on there. when we looked into it they required some outrageous insurance and park fee's

I checked in with them about this a little while back, and they were okay with it. But I do plan on contacting them again here on Monday just to double check with them. (I already have an e-mail in to a few people at the parks service about what were trying to do.)

Thank you for the heads up. I've seen bus loads of foreigners trek throughout the park. I can't imagine they had to pay a park fee. I figure we should be able to enjoy the park too.

Jay, that's good you checked. My thought was to do it Renegade style. Worst case scenario, we pick up the gates early. In any event, checking was a good idea.

yes i pointed that out as well Trump with all the tourism and others that get to use the park , what i was told the problem being is that what we were proposing was a competition and they had a problem with that. i hope it works out for you guys

Thanks Rich. Maybe we won't emphasize competition and instead emphasize a fun trail challenge. Worst case scenario no gates and just a GTG.

Last time I was there some rock lovers didn't like that we where driving over the moss on the rocks. They suggested we stay in the dirt parking lot. We politely complied with a friendly attitude while we headed to other mossfree rocks away from the hiking/nature trail. I didn't want to say what I was thinking though.
