After hearing his stories about everything he went through over there its hard not to be proud of the guy.

A quick note to anyone serving or that has served...Thank you. I believe that I speak for all of us when I say that we appreciate what you have done and we will support you in any way possible.

Awesome stuff right here.

I am currently in the Army. Joined in 99 when I realized college wasn't for me. Was in Korea, Ft. Riley for 7 years (2 in Iraq while there), Ft. Jackson as a Drill Sergeant and now Ft. Bliss. My dad retired from the Air Force and my brother is nearing his 20 year mark. My brother in law is also in and I have 2 cousins also in the Army, one just joined and one joined around the same time as me and is currently in Afghanistan. Needless to say, since the wars started, one of us has been in a combat zone. And even though I am in I want to thank all the Veteran's out there for their service no matter how brief it was or reason for getting out.

And for all that thanks, I want to say it honestly is my pleasure.

Marines
No photos or glory shots, Boot camp at Parris Island, , Radar school at Fort Sill OK, and stationed at Camp Lejeune NC (better knows as swamp lagoon)

Got out as an E-4 CPL. Had some good times, and some bad times.

My grandfather on my dad's side (along with all his brothers) served our country during World War II. None of them ever talked about any of it during my time, but I've heard plenty of stories. My Grandfather was on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific and one of his brothers was in the Air Force and shot down over Germany. He spent a great deal of time in Stalag 17.

I would like to thank and will honor not only my family but all Veterans that have served our country...not only on Veterans Day, but every day. Thank you!

In honor of my Brother in law, May he rest in peace

Robert Arthur “Rob” Cheever, Sergeant First Class, United States Army, 37, formerly of Mankato and Cleveland, Minnesota, now of Ft. Drum, New York, died of pancreatic cancer at the Waseca Medical Center on February 21, 2010.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Rob was born June 7, 1972, in Chapel Hill, NC, to Walter and Cheryl (Bates) Cheever. Rob graduated from Mankato East High School in 1991, joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduation, and made it his career. Rob was united in marriage to Jill Helgason on July 11, 1998 in Armstrong, IA. Rob served two tours of duty in Korea, and three deployments in Afghanistan. He served in the Artillery his entire career; as a paratrooper, as a recruiter, and as a gun crew. His duty assignments include gun crew Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant of the Rear Detachment Company C. His last assignment was with the 4-25 Field Artillery of the 10th Mountain Division, which returned from Afghanistan on December 30, 2009. In addition in many commendations from his superiors, Rob was inducted into the Audie Murphy Club, an honorary society for outstanding Non Commissioned Officers, and the St. Barbs Award, an artillery honor for excellence in their field. Rob was awarded the Bronze Star for his service to his country during his Afghanistan tour of 2008.

Rob delighted in his family and they always came first in his life. He enjoyed being active, riding bikes, outdoor activities, and hunting with gun and bow. Woodworking was also important, even if it meant that his car had to sit outside because the garage shop was full. Most of all he always kept his connection to family and friends, visiting them whenever he could be where they were.

Rob is survived by his wife, Jill of Cleveland; two children, Madison Cheryl and Jacob Walter; father and stepmother, Walter and Lois Cheever of Cleveland, MN; mother, Cheryl Bates Norine of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Kara Martin of Richland, WA, Leah (Kent) Hendrickson of Duluth; grandmothers, Winifred Cheever of Brookings, SD, Beryl Bates of Sioux Falls, SD; mother-in-law, Patricia Helgason of Armstrong, IA; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Karma and Tim Kelly of Humboldt, SD, Holly and Greg Keszler of Sturgis, SD; aunts, uncles, and many extended family.

Rob was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bob Helgason; grandfathers, Lyle Cheever and G. Robert Bates; aunt, Kathleen Cheever.

In honor of Rob’s love of the color Red the family would invite people to wear Red to honor him at the Funeral Service.

Thank you UGC, awesome idea. I was a Navy Seabee from 1995 until 2010. I loved it. My daughter turned 12 this year and I relized how soon it would be before she was out of the house and how little time I have spent with her. So when it was time to re-up I got out and have no regrets. I want to thank all the Vets that paved the way for me. And to my brothers and sisters still serving thank you and stay safe.

I will honor my Grand father, Edward Kroger, who fought the Germans on their own turf. AND my son, Nick Rasmussen, who will be deployed soon. I love my boy and I hope he grows up real soon, he's already got one daughter and twins on the way.
As for MY team, I will never forget you.

My dad was an MP in Vietnam, now I am set to deploy to Afghanistan in the next week or two. I'm not in the army. I work for FLIR Systems. We make infrared optics technology for the military, and I volunteered to go support the 101st medevac in Kandahar. Those guys have an incredibly tough and important job, and I'm happy to be a part of it.

My hat goes off to all the men and women in our armed forces!

VERY COOL GIVEAWAY!!! "thumbsup"

My Uncle Clyde was a Seabee back in WWII. He lost his arm at the elbow when a Japanese plane dropped a bomb next to his earth-mover.

As for me...
I just went over 20 years in the Navy as a Submarine Sonarman. I have been on deployments in just about every ocean and have qualified on two two classes of submarines.

This is the last submarine I was stationed on, USS Nebraska (SSBN-739)
