Rant Thread

I can't believe how quickly people become sheep. On social media, the guys that love 3D printed inserts will happily pay for those overpriced, low-quality 3D prints and then regurgitate that information all over. They will sign off their post with FUPA 3D Inserts or whatever terribly named brand they want to fanboi for. It's so pathetic that I just have to laugh at those guys! :ROFLMAO:

You best believe they pay more for the 3d printed inserts than they pay for the actual rubber that already comes with foam inserts. o_O 🤯 :ROFLMAO:

People that come to work sick. I'm now sick as hell, a few days before my birthday, and trying to close on a mortgage. If you have microbes, stay the F home!!

Bought a crossman airsoft rifle at Wallyworld that doestn function. Cant return it in store either!

So I tested positive for COVID, again. I think this is the fifth or sixth time I've had it now. I've slept so damned much (because that's what I do when I'm sick) that now I'm wide awake going on midnight, and I'm tired of laying in bed. Next person that comes to work sick gets ******* throat punched.

That sucks. Stores should be required to provide consent forms advising us of this bullshit at the time of purchase!

The retiring engineer from the last shithole where I worked told me to not buy from Tractor Supply. When I asked why, he told me his brother-in-law received a trailer hitch, labeled correctly for his truck, that wasn't even close to fitting. They tried to return it to Tractor Supply and they said it had to be returned to the manufacturer. A big, heavy hitch has to be returned to the manufacturer?! Think of how much that will cost. So instead, they cut and welded it to fit his truck.

When I become President, it will be legal to stab people that come to work visibly sick. Keep your germs at home. It's not my effing problem if you don't have sick days or don't have them.

This bottle of CA decided to randomly split open while sitting there untouched and leak its entire contents onto my workbench. The charger and GoPro mount have been glued to the cutting mat but luckily the pool of glue missed the soldering iron.

Ya, but remove the charger fast, as the acetone will attack the abs plastic. The mat will lose all markings if you wipe it with acetone

It's too late for the charger, it is good and stuck.

I'm going to have to cut a chunk out of the mat to free it. A new mat and an ugly charger are in my future.

Oh man, that sucks. I'd call the cutting matt a loss and just cut the charger out (assuming there are no connections on the bottom side that are needed).

It took me until my early 30s to realize that sick days aren't really for the person that's sick--it's for your family and co-workers. Supervisors and employers that realize this are often generous with sick days with no caps on accrual because they know the more you use it and not take out 5 other people off the team, the better the business runs in the long term.

I often complain about who is in the White House, but I know despite their failings, I would be worse because of my vindictive tendencies--great minds must think alike.

Labor rates: by my own calculation, the greater San Francisco Bay area is currently between $150 to $225 per hour--there is a wide spread because I'm including parts of the Central Valley--Manteca, Lodi, Stockton, Modesto. I've worked in construction project management in the past and have the tools (no pun intended) to break down costs relatively quickly.

The median household income in the greater San Francisco Bay area is $125k-$130k. This is not a humble-brag by any means, but my wife and I make multiples of that figure that supposedly put us in the top 5% of all households in the US--you wouldn't believe it when you see my house or the neighborhood I live in. We find those labor rates philosophically "wrong," maybe because of our Puritanical upbringing, and the fact that we've done a lot of renovations to our house ourselves.

Last job around the house I didn't want to do because my knee was tweaked was to install a decorative bathroom faucet, replace 2 wall stubouts with copper--$900. I had a quote to replace an entry door, replace a 2' x 3' window by the door, re-do an 8' x 4' area of wall with ship lap, and install new porch railings $12k. Guy who quoted me still hasn't come back to have me sign a contract, and no one else seems to want to do the job--probably too small.

While I do not mind at all paying a living wage to my fellow workers, I do wonder how sustainable this will be in the long run.

Is that only for labour ? Qutes here in Barcelona are of the hook too...I have to rebuild a small toilet (tiles , floor, armatures) and the few who actually want to accept the job send estimates that make your hair curl up.

Materials and labor, but the materials all added up only account for 40% of the estimate at most at full retail, I know they can source them at wholesale prices, and told them to do so as long as they maintain the same quality spec.

My wife's cousin had an apartment in Barcelona--would not be surprised at the labor cost. I'd love to retire in Catalunya in Cadaques, have some caracoles, vino, y pan de aceite and watch the sunset on the water.
