Tips and Tricks Thread

^i think I might be the only one who bakes sets still? I bought an oven at a garage sale and keep it outside for the smell in the wash room "thumbsup" in my opinion cleanest non-wrecking way to do this other than acetone.

I bake my tires but gotta make sure no ones home for a long time cuz mine the first time someone shouldve warned me of the stink

BigGuyJT, got any pics with all the electronics hooked up on that metal plate platform? I just want to get ideas on organization and rerouting my wiring.

Not much to show really. I put it all in a radio shack project box and waterproofed it.

After I "Mirrored" ... I added lights and such. Too many wires under the body to get all snagged up.

So I just made a "Spur Cover" out of an adult product can.

Works great, and it was free. Its not my best work, but it works for now.

Well... I hate to disappoint.. but its only a empty can of Kodiak (Dip).

Its kind of brittle to work with. Snip and dremel.. and it worked.

Funny stuff guys... I didnt even think of THAT Adult type of product... although.. .. I can see ... wait... kids may be present....

Really does work on keeping the wires off of the spur if they happen to come loose.

No one has talked about flipping the shocks over. I cut off the stupid fake resevoirs and flipped them all over. They no longer leak and now the heavier parts of the shocks are on the axle instead of the chassis.

My neighbor is a semipro 1:10 offroad driver and he keeps a 5 gallon bucket of acetone with lid in his garage. Be sure to only put an inch or two of acetone in and set a paint brush dry tray at the bottom, above the liquid. You only want the wheels in the fumes, not touching the liquid. He has a nice sponsorship from Proline so he goes through a lot of tires and wheels this way

No one talks about it because its not very scale at all. on top of that theyre plastic, the difference in weight top to bottom is so minimal its not worth having goofy looking shocks plus mostly everyone replaces the stock crap with more scale looking or better performing shocks i.e. non-leaking "thumbsup"

Good thing I wasn't worried about the rims. How long and what temp do you bake them at?

I've heard that boiling can ruin the tires

For short course tires I was doing 15 minutes or so @ 225 in a small toaster oven. I imagine these would be very similar. The rims are soft when they are hot but will harden up again when cooled.

So im taking a new turn to scale crawling. I currently have a wraith. Im needing opinion for a new build. Its between the Scx10 Dingo and the Rubicon Rig. Ill be building the kit. I need to hear input on both trucks. I might even throw some wraith axles under which ever truck i decide. I like the Dingos Short wheelbase, but i also like the Rubicon's scale appearence and accessories. Sorry guys. Im new to the RC Crawling world. Im usually messing around with my 1:1 rig so dont burn me to bad :)

Go Dingo, you hardly see them anymore. If you want to change later all you have to do is get longer suspension links to switch to a JK.

Crude rude and thoroughly unattractive but it works well.
Until you get a better steering link the outside of a pen cut down and zip tied on helps keep both front wheels pointing in the same direction.
