Optic Kit Coming

The PWM motor noise.

I won't use them either, for the same reason. Holmes says their engineers just don't care, so fuggem.
When/where did he say that?

I honestly don't think Castle has many engineers. I know for sure they only have one tech support guy on staff.

I have the Pro 2300 in my rtr. It's a sweet spot for my terrain. As much as I would love to set up a rig to crawl some of that massive and dry desert slab we just don't have that round here. It's more fun to have both the wheel speed and smooth creep.
I am tempted to try that 2800kv axe system Col.Sanders suggested in my kit build. I would like a bit more speed but don't want the Mamba whine.
I'm not sure if a 540l will fit. Might be too long.

"from castle, no silent escs available. I couldn't get the engineers to do it for me or themselves either. And now castle doesn't really have engineering in the USA."

Well, my kit is missing a driveshaft yoke.

And the transmission input shaft is slightly curved and binds every 180*. I pulled it all back apart and rolled the input over a perfectly flat glass table. It definitely has a wobble to it. Email sent to Vanquish and I guess I won't be playing with my new truck this weekend.

Had no idea the Optic had no slipper clutch until I built mine. Was thinking I'd add one, till the entire truck was assembled and I realized there is no room for a slipper because the gear cover is already very close to the servo mount. Boo.

Also realized the shocks come with the seals already installed, like no wonder so many people complain about these shocks leaking when you drag the threaded shaft through the already in position and slightly compressed seals. Much better to put shaft through the body then put the unrestrained seals into place.

Was very unimpressed with how floppy the knuckles were once bolted to the housing. I found some SSD 10.2 kingpin bushings that fit the knuckle bores much better than the shouldered bolts included. Then put .2mm worth of 4x6mm shim between the knuckle and housing at each pivot point. Mucho better now.

Overall though I'm very impressed with the design and fitment of this truck and am very much looking forward to putting some hours on it.

and yet Castle is basically the only ESC on the Holmes website

It won't according to a post in a group on FB.

That confirms my theory. It sucks. Robert, who was on this site, was super helpful. This also explains why the Mamba X software was abandoned and hasn't been updated in years.

That really sucks about the missing part and bent shaft. Vanquish should take care of you.

You don't need a slipper clutch.

I agree about the shocks coming pre-assembled. It's not a great move. But I assume they do this because it is a royal PITA to get the retaining ring installed. Removing it is even worse. That's even if you buy the recommended Knipex driver that doesn't fit properly anyway...

Huh? Castle makes their own ESCs.

How much longer than the 2 in 1 is it? That's a long-ass motor.

Can't believe neither Holmes nor Castle have chosen to come out with a silent 2 in 1 to compete with Hobbywing.

Or even better, how about A dead-quiet 2800kv Puller Pro. Next level stuff.

It never ceases to amaze me how few companies seem to get their shocks right. I do really like the 80mm VP shocks, but yeah. They have leaked for me at about a 50% rate. Likely even higher. Seems to work for the rigs tho.

I'm gonna try out the Team KNK Boss shocks on my RTR. I was thinking about all the newish shocks that haven't really been tested much or had much feedback on. I'd hate to see these new products disappear after a short run because no one was daring enough to try them. I decided I should just give them a good test rather than going to my old favorites.

I have them assembled but havent run them yet. They feel good, no signs of leaks yet. Compared to the new VP shocks these are maybe 2mm longer at full extension. Adding a spacer inside the shock would solve this if it bothers you.

The Boss shocks use an O-ring around the piston where it meets the (inside of the) shock body.

Holmes offers both the Crawlmaster HV Brushless Crawler ESC and theCrawlMaster Mini v3 Rock Crawler ESC.

Both are silent FOC-type ESCs that will run inrunner and outrunner motors.

Not sure what you mean by "equivalent" - they are both more advanced in their way than Castle ESCs, but are specifically aimed at crawlers - not bashers or go-fast rigs.

The only thing he hasn't done is a combo motor ESC like Hobbywing - but his stuff is aimed more at competition crawlers that want the ability to pick exactly what motor type and KV rating they want to pair with the ESC.

For 1/10 scale he offers one esc that isn't even water/element proof, only 4s up to 2700kv, but at a decent price.
Mamba X is 6s input, water proof and I usually run 3100kv-3600kv motors in my rigs on 3s with zero issues.

You can program castle throttle curves, hill hold brake and crawler setting which eliminates the double brake tap to get you in reverse.

I'm not saying anything bad about Holmes I think it's great company and love the servos but I'm buying a castle every time because of the ratings and because I can swap one into a 1/10 short course truck if need be. My main point with all this is Castle can't be that bad especially if someone who owns a company that designs and sells there own ESCs is selling the Castle brand.

Yes you are correct. But Holmes sells castle ESCs on his website and he currently doesn’t offer an esc that is equivalent to any castle ESC unless I’m missing what he offers.
Holmes used to have a close relationship with Castle. The early Holmes ESCs were like Castle ESCs, but with different firmware from what I remember.

No idea. This is the photo posted in the FB group:

He's working on it. Until then I'm a total convert to the Fusions, unbelievably good for the money.
