Michigan Roll Call

brownvhf,

I wish I would have known about this! I live in Swartz Creek and wanted to find a track to race off road. I get sick of pavement.

too bad I sold my mini's (not sure if they raced those tho?) anyhow... I will have to look up the address when they get a course setup!

I am slowly building my crawler... I really just need a chassis and transmission... although, going to try an old tamiya tranny for now!

won't be able to make a winter run this weekend, got a hockey game on sunday. If you guys meet, get some pics.

If you were in any hobby shop from flint to saginaw you would have known about the dirt birners off road track as it was very weoll advertised and they still race mini's here in clio. rc18t and losi mini t. Jerry"thumbsup"

He so whats going on now guys sorry I have not been around. I just got back into racing but still got the crawler. anything happening

brown,
I have been in hobby town and riders, but still a bit intimidated with the sport I guess.

Maybe in the future I will be able to rebuild a racer to bring out there... if not, I can always bring my sons and I know they would get a kick out of it (summer time they will be 3 1/2 and 1 1/2)

I can't wait to get my crawler really going. I think I am going to have to make my own chassis and I hope I can work around this tamiya tranny... I can't afford to drop $60-$120 for more stuff! haha

Gopher, I have kids roughly the sames ages, and trust me I understand the $$$ for their toys vs my own. Even if I forget my wife will remind me. At this point I have to say ditch the Tamiya trany, pick up a pede one. Sliders will perform better than dogbones in my limited experience. You'll be happy you did it. As far as cost, I have been buying rustler/bandit/stampede rollers for like 20-30 bucks for the whole trucks. Racers don't want this stuff anymore, and most of them don't know the value to us crawlers. I think I have like 280-300 in my whole rig, it can be done on the cheap end and still be functional. I built mine up by doing the ultimate no-no on this site anyhow with a chopped stock chassis:shock:. What are you going to build scale? comp? Remember buliding is more than half the fun. just my 2cents

Both stores you mentioned have that intimedation affect, it just comes with the store, and ryders in the truck section had it with me until they saw my super I was building. Not sure but they kept telling me how to do this or do it this way, hell, I've been building these thingss for over 40 years, not gonna change the way I do something now.

As far as a chassis, I can help you out there as we can go out in the barn and build one for what you need. The tranny, I would suggest the same thing that somebody else did, a rolor off e-bay. no more than 30.00.

The only thing if you show up tommorrow to start the chassis, I might not be able to help but within a few days prpbably by the weekend I should be able to.

Electronics, I don't know of any cheap way unless you could find one of the Tamia Clodbuster speed controls as there not electronic so might work. I've used them before in a electric boat I was running abouit 20 volts through so they will take a lot.

You might be able to squeak by under a 100.00 yet BUT Just remember it will only be a rig to have fun with, trail ride probably very well but you will need the transmission first before even the chassis can be drilled for it. Tamia transmission will not work. If you want my phone number, I have a cell phone and I've listed it a couple of times so just back space on pages until you find it. Jerry"thumbsup"

I did dogbones ($10 from lhs) just so I can stretch it for now using stock tranny or a tamiya tranny that uses same output, but is gears and much more compact (vertically).

Maybe when I start coming out to get togethers I will look at a new chassis or tranny though :)

I was even thinking of using the shock tower idea that a few have done (I think dtx mt front?) that looked like a decent one for $20 ($10 each).

Now I'm excited for next weekend because I should have everything together to complete my stretch with stock chassis! Doing my own links I am thinking of only having to spend around $10 for everything.

have rocknut send you some pic, he did a good job using custom link and the stock chassis. I have used the HPI MT dogbone and they never popped out; but you do have to get your links perfect otherwise they'll just fall out. the stock trans is ok for short term use, the belts go fast on them. just run a 55T or 65T and a 72/9 tooth spur/pinion combo and you should be good.

Perfect timing, I just got my crawler done. The big hold up was getting an hour of free time to paint the body. here it is.

This isn't just a paint job I'm looking at, its ART WORK. Very nice and something to be very proud of. Jerry

Hey guys. I got a nitro 1/8 scale buggy for kicks, and to satisfy my need for speed. (first nitro) It doesn't come with an engine, do you think a savage one will fit? (Ofna MBX Pro, the one with the funky tires)

Wow, thanks for all the good comments."thumbsup" Compared to some of the rigs I've seen on here I thought mine was fairly tame. I'll have a build/spec thread posted in the TLT section soon.

Hey guys, Hows everyone doing? I'm from good old Kalamazoo, MI. That's about two hours or so to the east side or 1 hour to the west, last but not least I'm about 5 hours to the bridge. I would like to get involved with some crawl'in, mudd'n maybe even a little pulling action. So, I'll keep my eyes open for the next date that we all can get together. Hopefully, I will be able to make it. If anyone is local, let me know. I cant fiqure out how to post pictures of my trucks yet so, I'll need to do that a little later.

Talk to ya soon,
Mark

that .25 should fit fine, what you need to worry about is if they make mounts for it. I think ofna has different mounting points than the HPI
