Losi Steering mod design

Im in for 2 sets if possible. I have a unstuck looking for love and youngbloods chassis needing some love too. Now that i think of it.. Im not racing this upcoming season.. Could go to a few comps this year... Good work!

I can't start these until I know what width they need be from outside of hex to outside of hex."thumbsup"
Ernie

XR width. Lol.
Thanks yoda, I have been playing around a little this morning and I'm going to go with 9 1/2" +- from outside of hex to outside of hex. I'm not a machinist so everything is kind of by trial and error.
I may have something to show today or tomorrow."thumbsup""thumbsup"

Beat me to it. Was just about to dig out my old xr10 axles then. Lucky i checked haha. Was also gonna say as you daid codyboy people can adjust with different hubs anyway.

OK I got the losi out and on the bench. However the wife showed up with a new dishwasher so I didn't get a chance yet but I'm off tomorrow so should be good

Finally a measurement! Thank you! I will slide it down to 8 7/8". I guess if that doesn't work for everyone they can make adjustments with wheels, shifts or VP hubs."thumbsup"
Ernie

that will make it easy for everybody. "thumbsup"

Happy New Year from The Pacific Northwest to everyone!!

Ok, my 67 year old brain is almost fried trying to figure this out. I wanted to keep the number of pieces I have to fabricate as few as possible.
The first thing I did was make the brass inserts the same as the scale ones, but a little longer. Also came up with a way to capture the two axle housings on the ends.

Pretty cool, I thought, "this is all coming together"! Wrong....how do I get the capture in place to hold the two haves together, it won't slip over the brass.:twisted::twisted: I sat and stared at pieces on my work bench for 1/2 hour, nothing! Was getting more frustrated by the minute! Said the heck with it, Sorry comp guys I can't figure this out. I went in the house and watch a great Rose Bowl game ( Go PAC 12).
Got up this morning thinking there has got to be a way! A light came on.

The haves are together, the end cap is on and the brass is inside. How did I do it?

2 piece brass setup? Tube and end cap?

Yeah the outer brass has female threads?

I use 1/8" and 1/4" brass tube to build all my brass tubes.
I just had to bite the bullet and change things up a little. The capture on the ends of the housing was a must (IMO)for durability to hold the shock and link mount half in place when the truck is working.

I need to be able to slide the tube through the end of the axle.

Pieces I'm using for the housing ends.

Now I'm waiting on some unis from RPP to build shafts.

4-40 screws I'm using to hold the brass in place.

I think I'm getting close to testing.

8 7/8" from outside of hex to outside of hex. Hey Robbob will your plates work on this?

The machining is rough, I use some repurposed brass.

Hell yes, lookin good so far. Have you decided on a price yet?

Kinda sucks (for me) going through the trouble finding losi aluminum knuckles a while back (gettin hard to find) and blue monkey knuckle weights just to ditch those now. Lol. But this will totally be worth it. "thumbsup"
