Since when did it only become drive shafts?
What happen to metal trans gears and the HD axle gears and a 32P spur and pinion and beef tubes and all these other things to handle the added power reliably most suggest.????.
You can use stock driveshaft and your slipper clutch if all you need is common sense with using more power...I suppose you can install a 454 and only use half throttle so you don't break stuff in your truck that was designed to be sufficient with less power...Makes sense though...More so if you do upgrade to use it all but you get the point...I think.
I use every bit of my 2s power with a locked down slipper and going into 5 months now still with a stock un modded driveshaft...So yea..maybe I have no common sense to push its limits so I can spend more money when I don't need to to enjoy the truck...Maybe one day if I compete ill make you guys proud and use a 3s and buy all this fancy stuff I might need but for now I nor many people don't need it to enjoy our rigs.
If you can accept that then this forum will be a much better place."thumbsup"
Did I mention even with almost one pound of weight added to the rotating assembly; still hasnt broken the stock drive shafts.8)
Appreciate your insulting opinion though"thumbsup"
I'm speaking from personal experience. What about you? I wasn't saying you didn't have common sense. We know you are retired and on a fixed income. You might not have $32 dollars to spend on drive shafts.
You're in luck Sharky!

I think the word "sleeper" is what's bugging me. If it was classified as a "stealth" mod it might fit better. Since you're hiding something in place of a stock part and the Honcho already looks more capable than a stock Tacoma (tires, lift, etc).
In my Honcho that uses 3S only, it's used the stock plastic trans gears, 48P plastic spur and pinion, stock axle gears, stock driveshafts (unmodded), and a servo that barely has more torque than stock that sounds like its on its way out. My point is, perhaps if you're running some wild brushless system on 3S and up, maybe it's more highly recommended to run stronger gears and everything else.
My Honcho I bought used here too, started as a kit version so it's at least a few years old too. Axial metal links, King shocks, and the metal C-hubs and knuckles are all that's really upgraded - and those are done for better steering and sliding over rocks. You don't need to re-engineer the SCX10 to run 3S.
ya know 6sharky9, you and I might not be that different in the way we build our crawlers after all. Neither of my rigs are dripping in Vanquish(I haven't even owned any VP stuff) with crazy brushless systems, with bling wheels and shocks that look good. I, like you, have modest brushed power (RC4WD motors) and only have the durability mods I need to stay reliable and keep it running every time I go crawling. Not to mention all the stuff I make for it. So really, just cause its a "budget" rig, doesn't mean it sucks.
If stock is how you rock, rock on"thumbsup"
why do some threads on this site seam to just turn into pissing contests.
If you don't like it, or get nothing from it........don't post, simple really
Sorry Sharky, not your fault and not pissing in your pocket, but it makes reading any threads you have started quite difficult to read unfortunately
~ I deleted all my other clutter from yer current build thread ~Possible Reasons:
4.) Perhaps my saying ive been in rc 30yrs????????( Just typing this again for taco)
I'm still trying to wrap my head around a sleeper crawler unless we're street racing these on Friday nights with no front driveshafts.
Its not I guess something I should expect most to understand..
Its more a deceiving type thing.....
Well im not really trying to fool anyone......
