Since when did it only become drive shafts?

What happen to metal trans gears and the HD axle gears and a 32P spur and pinion and beef tubes and all these other things to handle the added power reliably most suggest.????.

You can use stock driveshaft and your slipper clutch if all you need is common sense with using more power...I suppose you can install a 454 and only use half throttle so you don't break stuff in your truck that was designed to be sufficient with less power...Makes sense though...More so if you do upgrade to use it all but you get the point...I think.

I use every bit of my 2s power with a locked down slipper and going into 5 months now still with a stock un modded driveshaft...So yea..maybe I have no common sense to push its limits so I can spend more money when I don't need to to enjoy the truck...Maybe one day if I compete ill make you guys proud and use a 3s and buy all this fancy stuff I might need but for now I nor many people don't need it to enjoy our rigs.

If you can accept that then this forum will be a much better place."thumbsup"

Did I mention even with almost one pound of weight added to the rotating assembly; still hasnt broken the stock drive shafts.8)

Appreciate your insulting opinion though"thumbsup"

I'm speaking from personal experience. What about you? I wasn't saying you didn't have common sense. We know you are retired and on a fixed income. You might not have $32 dollars to spend on drive shafts.

Ill just go look for more aluminum cans to support my hobby8)

Wow, this thread went downhill quick... no need for insults here.

Volt Up, Gear Down.

You get more torque. With that extra torque you can get more torque to the wheels (without maxing everything out, but still more than what 2S would provide).
You are using all of that 2S, just like that civic is using all of it's 120 horsepower just to get around town. The V8 rig can use the same 120 hp and save engine components (actually extending the life of the vehicle) but when you need it, you can smash the gas and get going.

I'd much rather use 75% of the capability of the rig 75% of the time than use 100% of the capability 100% of the time.

Your "free driveshaft mod" (too lazy to look through your older posts to see what you refer to here...) is likely all that is needed to strengthen the stock plastic drive shafts. (If you are referring to stiffening the stock WB8 driveshafts.)

Also, you don't *need* heavy duty gears. I'm still running the same set of gears from my original AX10 from 2008. Yes, the stock pot metal, and even the plastic transmission gears. Remember, it's throttle control, not voltage, that prevents breakage.

As I've said, I'm always for the budget mods. That's how I build my rigs. Remember though, budget is not always the cheapest mod. Sometimes spending a little more money once is better than buying the same part more than once. I also consider my time vs the cost of an upgrade. Can I do the same thing myself? Can I do it quick enough or better than the aftermarket part to be worth my time to do it?

I've done plenty of at-home hacking (made my own functional dig unit for less than a couple bucks) and many things worked, some didn't.

Again, this thread could have gone MUCH differently if you used a different approach.

I think the word "sleeper" is what's bugging me. If it was classified as a "stealth" mod it might fit better. Since you're hiding something in place of a stock part and the Honcho already looks more capable than a stock Tacoma (tires, lift, etc).

In my Honcho that uses 3S only, it's used the stock plastic trans gears, 48P plastic spur and pinion, stock axle gears, stock driveshafts (unmodded), and a servo that barely has more torque than stock that sounds like its on its way out. My point is, perhaps if you're running some wild brushless system on 3S and up, maybe it's more highly recommended to run stronger gears and everything else.

My Honcho I bought used here too, started as a kit version so it's at least a few years old too. Axial metal links, King shocks, and the metal C-hubs and knuckles are all that's really upgraded - and those are done for better steering and sliding over rocks. You don't need to re-engineer the SCX10 to run 3S.

I can understand maybe somebody working on a budget doing these mods, but at the same time it doesn't cost much at all to have actual metal links

I want everyone to remember one thing. 3s doesn't break parts people break parts. :lmao:

Another thing, this hobby isn't about showing up the other guy. Its about sharing a common interest in RC vehicles, building them, sharing our knowledge, and building a community. The goal shouldn't be to build something that appears stock to deceive other people, but to build something that is yours, with your own identity, that you can share with your fellow enthusiast.

The word sleeper means something that performs better than one might think or as it appears...A sleeper doesn't have to be the best performing vehicle to be considered one..Ive made many examples before of what makes a sleeper..ill try it again.

A sleeper would be a vehicle that shows no indication of its added performance and maintains a low profile...meaning maybe a 4 door Taurus with performance to beat cars you would otherwise think it couldn't beat ...In the street scene this would apply to straight line performance for the most part...All ive done was apply this theme to a trail truck in the rc world..It doesn't have to have professional comp performance to be a sleeper..If I showed pics of it one would think it was a stock RTR with nothing done to it except the fact I did mention what I did to it that makes it not as stock as it appears to be...its just not something you see on rc forums and I thought some would enjoy it.

Why its stirred up the negative reactions I have no idea but it is what it is.

You either like my threads or you don't...A lot of builds I don't care for but you wont find me in their threads telling them they are stupid or wrong for choices they made..If anything I may try to help someone but never insult them for not agreeing with me or their choices...Ultimately we are all going to do what we want to anyway regardless of what people may say.

I promise if decide to try a 3s you guys will be the second to know about it."thumbsup"

ya know 6sharky9, you and I might not be that different in the way we build our crawlers after all. Neither of my rigs are dripping in Vanquish(I haven't even owned any VP stuff) with crazy brushless systems, with bling wheels and shocks that look good. I, like you, have modest brushed power (RC4WD motors) and only have the durability mods I need to stay reliable and keep it running every time I go crawling. Not to mention all the stuff I make for it. So really, just cause its a "budget" rig, doesn't mean it sucks.

If stock is how you rock, rock on"thumbsup"

I like improved stock..lol

Some changes made to it that improve performance and some things you can do that don't require parts to improve performance (Tips and tricks learned here and from being in rc 30yrs in general)...I just think should I decide to go farther in the future it will make for a better truck in general having done all the little things that added up to make a big difference.

why do some threads on this site seam to just turn into pissing contests.

If you don't like it, or get nothing from it........don't post, simple really

Sorry Sharky, not your fault and not pissing in your pocket, but it makes reading any threads you have started quite difficult to read unfortunately

I agree.

Possible Reasons:

1.) I chose to use a 2s and recommend them to some????

2.) Threads I write give the impression to some that "My build is better than every one else's.)?????

3.) Some read in my threads that everything I did I claim I invented it and no one else even thought about it.?????

4.) Perhaps my saying ive been in rc 30yrs????????( Just typing this again for taco:flipoff:)

5.) maybe because I said in one thread..If you follow all the little tips and tricks that it makes your rig better than some bolt on builds???????..Truth hurts???

Number 2 and 3 ive already been accused of (which are lies) but ehhhhhh, whatever.

...but thought this post was a poll request !?

sooo... get on with the show and stop fielding the douchebaggery ;-)

I guess any thread I do some of you are going to just follow me and destroy it.

Just did a video like any other person wanting to put up something and low and behold an azzhole (AKA WAR PIG) has to make his rude comment on here.

I don't give two craps if you guys like me or not.

Keep showing how great this site is and the mods who allow harassment to nothing more than someone minding his own business and doing his own thing.
