Dingo Body needs.... something.....???

man! what electronics do you have in that ford to make it jump like that??

Real cheap and basic stuff LOL!!!

I think the electrics were still the 1st gen RTR stuff,
but I had a heavy 7 cell 8.4v nimh batt mounted in the rear position and a Tamiya black closed can Sport Tuned motor in it.

It only popped up like that because I had the shock spring adjusters turned down tight to give it a higher ride height, so they were stiff and didnt buckle down under load, the motor was brand new, and the heavy batt had a fresh, full charge. It being mounted in the rear did most of the work tho.

Nothing special at all, but it looked cool as hell, didnt it?

8)8)8)8)8)8)

That motor does spin up a lot quicker than a standard silver can tho,

Watch it pop up off this flat rock with only 6 inches of run-up....

Man ya'll are gonna guilt me into re-doing my wheel wells.. I'm using the old ghetto dog food tubs :)

Hey Bubba,
I use butter tubs on most of my SCX builds,
and would have been happy to use them on this Dingo,
but the ones I had were just too small to fit around
the fender flare mounts.

(that I probably wont use anyway LOL! Go figure?)

Didnt have anything else to use, so I kinda HAD to
build my own wells......

As long as it keeps the crud out, and blocks the openings
so you cant see there is no engine or rear floor in there,
Im perfectly happy to use the tubs.

Love that truck man!"thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" how many turns does that motor have?

Love the way the cb antenna moves! "thumbsup" how'd ya make it?

I dont know for sure about the turns,
depends on who you ask???

I guess the European ones have a different turn count
than the ones we get in the states, sooo.....
Its either a 23 turn, or a 27 with advanced timing.

For the same money you can get a rebuildable
motor in the same turn range, and I would
recommend that over the Tamiya Sport Tuned motor
any day of the week.

The 102" CB whip antennas are pretty easy to make.

The ball is a ball link from a Clod Buster.
They are huge compared to most, nice soft brass,
and of course have the threaded stud to attach it
to the body, or a chained bumper mount like
I did on the Fords hand made bumper.

The hardest part is drilling a hole through it,
but if you dremel a flat spot on it, your drill
wont drift as much.

The springs I get out of spent disposable lighters.
Just pull them apart when they are out of gas,
and there are all kinds of goodies in them that you can use.

The whip itself is just 1/16" styrene rod, and the base
is hollow styrene tube with a 1/16" ID, and an a OD
that tells you what size hole to drill in the ball.

I used Evergreen brand, that is common at most LHS.

I dont remember for certain, but I think I cut the whip
to about 10"-10.5", and that was scale for a 102" whip in 1/10th.
They have free online scale calculators to help figure
that stuff out....

A 2mm screw fits just tight enough to spread the
base out and hold it in the ball, but a tiny drop
of glue dont hurt there.

Just dont glue the whip into the base. That way you can
take it out when you transport the truck so it dont
break on you. It will stay in the base just fine while running, as you saw in the vid.

Then just some shrink wrap to hold things together,
like the coils on the whip and base.

Honestly, its harder to describe than to build,
so here are a few pics to give you a better idea:

Hope that helps ya out!

It looks very scale the way it whips around, even in 1:1 speed.
You could even drill a hole in an airsoft BB,
paint it up like a tennis ball and slip it down over the whip LOL! LOL!

Is Clarence Ragland that "Fly before you buy" shop?
I found out about that place and marked it on Google Maps
thinking I might like to visit the shop some day.

Hope it inspires you to think about getting together for a fun run!!!

Yes, Clarence is the Fly before you buy. I used to talk to Clarence all the time when he would hang at Ed's. He tried to get me to help him instruct new flyers but I was young (14) and never took him up on his offer. His place is VERY SMALL next to a laundromat. I know he has a few trucks and parts but not sure what exactly he carries.

I would get together for a fun run but I don't have anything to run yet, LOL. I have been trolling on here and trying to decide which truck I want to purchase. I have so many other toys right now, Revo, Tmaxx, Rustler, Blackfoots, Stampede, WIld WIlly and a few other Tamiya's. I am partial to the Dingo just because you get to build them. My son has been bugging me for a kit to build so I may pick one up and we can build it together.

Well NUTZ, come on over and "Try before you buy!"
Bring your son too...

I have about 8 SCX rigs up and running right now,
all set up to handle differently. Some crawl, some trail,
some set up for speed, some just with a high scale factor,
even a Formula Off Road rig.

You could try them out, even figure how you want to set yours up from all the different ways I have mine.

Ill tell you tho, for the rigs you mentioned being all
higher speed stuff, you might like a Wraith better.
They come in kits now too, so does the EXO.

I have a Wraith you could check out also, no EXO yet tho.

There is a mulch pile two stories high at the park by my house thats a BLAST to run on. Stuffs all over the ground too, with the loader ruts all over the place. Berm city!

Good place to run your electric rigs, but its right next to
the golf course so gas/nitro trucks are a bad idea.

I have a Slash Ultimate, Clod Buster, DualHunter, TC3 rally car,
got a Wheely King coming in the mail Thrusday....
all kinds of rigs that could keep up with your stuff!

You let me know, its an open offer "thumbsup"

Hey man, ask away!
I wouldnt have started this thread if I didnt want to share ideas....

Guitar strings work good 8)

They are cheap, come in hundreds of guages,
and you can buy just the 1 string you need
at a good music store, instead of a whole re-string pack.

Bring a piece of the tubing you are going to use for the base,
and find a "low E" string that fits well,
(accoustic strings are thicker VS electric, so a better place to start looking)
but that will still come out of the base for transport. "thumbsup"

Just BE CAREFUL that you dont poke yourself in the eye!!!!

Its easy to forget that string is there when your changing batts etc..
and guitar strings are VERY UNFORGIVING!

Thats another reason I say dont glue the whip in the base,
you can pull it off to work on the truck, pull off twisted weeds/grass, dislodge stones, change batts etc....

Thanks man "thumbsup" I'm goin to do that "thumbsup" I'm goin to have to use some shrink wrap, so I can attach my actual radio antenna. Thanks man

I take it that you are running an AM/FM antenna,
and not one of the 2.4 GHz stubbies?

That could affect what I said about useing a metal antenna..................???

Let me know before you do anything!
Or describe in more detail what you intend to do!

This aint the 80's, where you could cut your antenna and put it under the
screw of a spring steel wire anymore, like the early Sand Blasters,
as long as the antenna length stayed the same.

You could screw something up, so STOP WHERE YOU ARE!!!
And declare your intentions in detail!!!!

Even the cheap but newer am/fm radios dont take to messing with their
antennas very well.

There is allways another way/solution to these issues.

No, I have a 2.4. But I wanted them to be out of the body, but I could just tape them inside the body.

Yeah, do that bud!

The 2.4's dont need any help.

Just try to keep the last inch of the 2.4 antenna pointed
as far away from the motor, ESC, their wires, and any other electronic "noise" spots as your build plan will allow, and you should be fine.

Not a perfect example, but on my 64 Impala
Red Neck Mud Blaster build, you can see how I gave the
antenna as much room away from those things as
possible, and it was enough to avoid interference/signal loss.
You can see the ant. tube on the far left of the first two pics.
(past that, Im just showing off, he he he........)

The TIP of the 2.4 receiver antenna is what you have to watch out for. Its like the transmit/load coil on a CB antenna, THE BUSINESS END!

But its the part of the antenna that RECEIVES the signal,
the rest of the wire just gets the TIP out farther.....

Keep that 1 inch TIP as far away from all the crap in an RC system that makes electronic NOISE, and you're golden!! "thumbsup"

Thanks man "thumbsup" do led s make electronic "noise" cause I'm doin to have 4 back there.

Everything electronic makes some "noise",
but I dont think a thousand LED'S would bother things
as long as you clear that antenna TIP away from it all.

The power supply to light them all up
might screw stuff silly tho LOL! :lmao:
