bilinvic's DMG IFS B1B Bomber Build

Sorry Brian, I ended up ordering a Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro BL 540 3500kv WP.... I already have a good stock of 3S batteries!

Honestly, I'm just glad you finally got a Holmes motor. Can't wait to see your reaction "thumbsup"

After reading nothing but positive reviews for the Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro motors, I finally became an owner of one for my B1B Bomber. I elected to get the 3500 kV WP version. This will replace a Tekin Pro4 4000 kV motor, geared 11t/56t (32p). I going to start with 12t/56t with the HH PP motor and see how I like that gearing. I have high expectations for this power-plant, hopefully it will not disappoint.

I can't recall my MMP settings with the Pro4 motor, so those will may have to change to optimize performance.

While I had the body semi-off for the motor transplant, I also swapped out the Vanquish titanium upper rear links for Incision 1/4" stainless steel Yeti links.

I love how easy it is to work on the B1B Bomber, only 9 easy access screws and the whole body can be tilted back for full access. I only have to unplug the three motor connections and the sensor cable and all the electronics go up with the body.
- Two screws on the upper front shock tower
- One screw for the draglink
- Six screws for the skid plate

BTW, Vanquish replied to my email promptly regarding the Incision VDI axle dogbone pin shifting out of position; they are sending me some replacements.
 
They did me too, unfortunately they lasted as long as the first set. I sent them another email asking if I could return them for store credit on something else, no response. I'm kind of disappointed in their lack of action with these VVD failures. The Yeti guys are having problems too. They stopped selling perfectly good trans cases yet keep selling these. SMH
 
I received a pair of the Vanquish VVD axle shafts today to replace the VDI axle shaft that had a dogbone pin shift out of position. If it does happen again, at least they are very easy to swap out on the trail. Thank you Vanquish for your outstanding service.
 
Had another test session last night, first time using the HH PP motor. As expected, the performance was awesome, low end resolution for crawling was perfect and so much wheel speed with a stab of the throttle. I'm geared 12t/56t and may drop down to a 11t pinion as I really don't need that much speed, even for bouncing!

MMP settings:
Drag brake is set at 50% which feels perfect for just the right amount of creep and not doing endos after letting off the throttle on a speed run.
Start power - Low
Punch Control - 20%
Sensorless Timing - 10 (normal default)
Smart Sense Brushless
Throttle curve is set to a sweeping curve

Remember the Incision Axle dogbone pin issue I was having? For shits and giggles, I pressed the pin back into position and then applied a very small amount of JB Kwik around the pin where it exits the axle ball end. Once the epoxy cured, I smoothed the JB Kwik with a file so that the epoxy would not present any clearance issues once the axle was inserted into the front diff cup. After last evenings 2+ hours test session, which did involve a ton of wheel speed, the axle pin has not moved one bit. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

I've said it many times before....and I will say it again....the B1B Bomber is such an awesome machine, it's an insanely competent crawler, bouncer and speed demon all in one package.

Because I can never leave well enough alone, I decided to stretch the B1B wheelbase a bit. This machine excels at rock face crawling whether it's a slow crawl, speed climb, bouncing or a combination of previously mentioned. Quite honestly, these rock face climbs blows people away at what this rig can accomplish. With that being said, a little longer wheelbase will improve face climbing performance.

Stock wheelbase is 14.75"
B1B wheelbase is 15.5"
My other solid axle Bomber is pictured for comparison. It's wheelbase is slightly shorter than stock because I'm using Wraith length BMRC T/As (WB 14.4")

I love the hill climber look of the extended rear axle.

I like it long! Looks awesome. What size hubs are you running? Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

Thank you. I'm using the stock SSD hubs on the front wheels which I re-tapped to fit 4-40 LURC scale hardware and Vanquish .600 SLW hubs rear.
