Yeti XL Aftermarket Thread

I have the stock yeti XL RTR setup. I have a castle BEC and yes I want to power my upgraded servo at 7.4V. I think I'm going to redo my wiring to bypass the receiver and power the servo directly. I'm trying to find one of those receiver bypass harnesses to buy to make it simple and clean. Thanks for all the help guys!!

The only thing I'm unsure of is which terminals to solder the BEC to on the two battery series ESC harness. I think positive on one and negative in the other, basically the two wires that come out of the esc.

Edit: The picture above shows it that way so that must be right then!

If you have the first run of the Axial ESCs then you have the cap in the middle. Just solder the BEC wires there. If not then you can pop the ESC case and solder the wires were the battery wires are soldered. Or you can solder them to the battery terminals at the end of your harness. Just make sure you solder to the correct wires or you will create a ground loop. Just picture that pic with out the T harness...unless you do have a T harness LOL.....I may have just made things worse didn't I?
 
Lol. Yeah I didn't follow that sorry! Here is a pic of my esc and battery cables. How do I open up this esc?

The two case halves are held together with little tabs. You need a small flat screwdriver to unlock them. IMO it would be far easier to cut off your traxxas connectors and start from there. I have only gone into two ESC and trashed one case because i have monkey hands and broke the tabs. Castle has insanely good customer service but i had to explain why i went into my ESC to break the tabs when they re-cased it.
 
All finished and wow what a difference with just a servo, steering bell, crank and a sway bar!!! I might just leave stock shock oil in for now and see how she handles on all kinds of terrain! Thanks again for the quick help everyone!

I'm hoping someone can tell me if any other brand 17mm hubs and nuts will fit on the axial upgrade from the rtr. I want to upgrade and have found the parts I need but it looks like the axial 17mm hubs are out of stock everywhere until next month. I'd like to use another brand if they'd just slip ????
 
Sorry, I'll be a little clearer, if I get these items to upgrade my rtr to better suit 17mm hexs, Axial Rear Axle 10x169mm (17mm Hub) Yeti XL - AX31260
Axial Front Axle Stub 16x39mm (17mm Hub) Yeti XL - AX31259, does anyone know the diameter of the stubs that the Axial Hex Hub Set 17mm Yeti XL (2) - AX31255 slide onto.
I need to order a brand other than the axial hexs.

Yes they are 8mm....It's standard 1/8 axles so any 1/8 buggy/truggy 17mm hex will slide on. You may have to play with shims if there is too much space between the back of the hex and the bearing.
 
I'm thinking about ordering these. They look really generic and cheap. What's the worst that could happen? Aside from destroying the axel.
 
They sure look cool! I also wonder about weight. They are quite costly but understandably so.
 
Those are definitely some cool looking panels, but I also wonder how they hold up and the weight as well. They kind of remind me of a warthog from Halo...
