Yeti XL Aftermarket Thread


if Mclaren wanted to advertise for their newest vehicle, they wouldn't post a picture of it next to a rusted out 97' honda civic.

They should have pictures next to the Wildpeaks, since these are better tires that came on alot of our vehicles. Almost any tire looks good sitting next to the Krawlers.

I would prefer them next to the Krawlers to show how large they are, although tossing in the Wildpeaks as well wouldn't be bad. My biggest concern was that they would be larger than 7.5" and basically be unusable for the truck, but seeing them next the the Krawlers now makes me want them even more.

The Wildpeaks and the Krawlers are extremely close sizes. There is no benefit to having them pictured next to Krawlers rather than the Wildpeaks.

The most useful information is the information they did not and have not yet posted .. price. Hopefully they don't take an obnoxiously long time to release a product like Axial does. Axial is a horrible company to deal with.
 
So I learnt an annoying lesson yesterday - the Hot Racing drive shaft comes apart really too easily. I managed to loose both pins and one of the washers when it came apart. I'm surprised I even managed to find the cups. The annoying thing is I can't find a washer of the right diameter to replace the lost one but the pins are easy enough to replace using the stock ones ground down about 2mm. Asked HR if I can just get a washer and two pins from them but as yet no reply.

I think red thread lock this time and I noticed the shaft itself is threaded, so I'll add a M3 grub screw at either end to hold the pin in, so even if it comes apart again the pins won't come out and the shaft won't fly off one end. Might also see if I can find some extra wide tubing to shrink over either end.
 
There is a thread on here about the Hot Racing driveshaft. Somebody recommended heat shrink to retain the pin covers. I've had success with red thread lock (but it can be difficult to remove).
 
I must have missed that part. Unfortunate! Well HR haven't got back to me which is a shame.
 
I was thinking about buying one just to lock up the rear and test, but I'm not sure how long I'd be able to jump the truck without any broken parts. I'm pretty easy on the throttle nowadays and always let off before the thing touches the ground or hits the bumper.
 
Alright I need a hand. I installed my steering bell crank, hitec 7955 servo, rear sway, and BEC. I'm having trouble figuring out where to power the BEC from. I made up a harness to both balance leads figuring I could wire those together the same way the main battery leads are in series and supply the full 4S voltage to the BEC. See the attached drawing of how I did it. I went to plug the first balance lead in and zap so I quickly stopped. No apparent damage to the battery, dunno about the BEC yet :-(. Anyway, why wouldn't this work and where are you guys wiring your BEC to?

Robinson racing emailed me after needing some help and in the discussion they stated they are working on some things for the xl. Just an FYI and I wasn't sure where to put it.

Look at this. I used a y-harness like in the pics and everything worked perfect.
 
Solder the wires into your esc connector or if you want to run off the balance taps wire it in parallel so it uses both batteries evenly.
 
Pulling current from the balance taps isn't a great idea. Your BEC can draw 10a and those balance wires are more around 3a. And your wiring is wrong. The balance tap is already a series connection. Get rid of that positive jumper on each end.
I have always grabbed the BEC Feed from the ESC battery terminals/wires.
 
Thanks for the feedback guys! How does one solder to the esc battery leads? I have traxxas connectors, are you suggesting removing the connectors and adding the BEC feed and then slipping the connector back on? The traxxas connectors are so freaking snug! Lol. If I am to do this, which it sounds like I am, which positive and which negative should I tap on the yeti XL?

Should I run the BEC output through the receiver (how I have it now) or feed my servo with it directly? It seems ok as is but I only bench tested it. Thanks!!
 
I called Castle about this same question. The EBEC wires solder to the ESC wires. I run Traxxas connectors also not a problem installing mine. The EBEC wires are soo small it should not create a problem getting the connectors back in the plastic housing. Just plan your wire routing and EBEC mounting point BEFORE soldering. Don't ask me why I know this.
 
What are you using the BEC for? Eliminating the ESC BEC totally? Or to power just the servo? What ESC do you have also. I use my Mamba internal BEC to still power the RX @ 6v but use my BEC to power just the servo @ 8.4v I use a Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster BLS HV400 Servo.
The correct way to wire a BEC also depends on the volts your ESC is getting. But your @ 4s so you can grab the power right off the ESC's battery terminals.
