Yeti Jr. upgrades

Ya part breakage is why I'd like to keep the rotational mass down. Being brushless and running 3s doesn't help either.

Well I bought some 1.55" gearhead UTE beadlocks. Pictures/exact weight to follow when they show up and get installed. I'll need to figure out a way to bolt them up since the opening in the hub is ment for threaded shaft and lock nut.
 
Here's another visual "upgrade". Ever since I saw these trucks side by side I knew I wanted the Score Body on the Yeti rolling stock. Nothing wrong with the Yeti Jr body, it looks very nice in fact, but the Score body is so much nicer. Those Score Jr wheels and tires are just too damn small to have any effectiveness off road unless your biggest obstacle is a nickel. As luck would have it, I caught a Score Jr body on eBay about a week ago for less than $30 shipped. The box shows up today with the brand new Score body AND the full set of TT wheels and tires with a nice little note. What a cool guy! Anywho, I immediately pulled the Yeti body off and had to compare them side by side. It's hard to believe these are the same scale. I guess the 1/18 scale Yeti body is supposed to replicate a Polaris RZR in comparison to the TT JR. :ror: It's quite obvious to me that the larger set of wheels and tires belong under the much larger truck body so I will start working on making this the truck it should've been, the same way I was forced to with replacing all electronics. :lmao: More coming....

Got the body trimmed and fitted last night. First I had to install one of the tiny Score Jr wheels and tires just to confirm how wrong they are for this body. It was worse than I thought. Looking at the top pic, it's immediately obvious which one of these wheels is the right choice for this truck and body. So with the correct wheel and tire reinstalled, I lowered the body back onto the chassis and started cycling the suspension. I was surprised at how little trimming was actually needed. At the points where there was most contact, I only had to trim less than an eighth of an inch and less everywhere else. The Score body has a nice lip on all four fenders you can use as a guide. 4 quick cuts with the lexan scissors and a couple adjustments and she's tucking the tires with no more rubbing. This turned out great and for less than $30 shipped I'm pretty happy. I even have a set of hilariously small tires for scale accessories or whatever I can find. I'd highly recommend this to owners of both trucks. If you have the Score, buy the Yeti Jr wheels and tires. If you have the Yeti Jr, get yourself the Score body and trim it up. For those wondering how much weight this adds, the Score body is only 5 grams heavier. I can live with that, especially since I lost 40 grams of weight up high by switching to a lipo battery.

Excellent! This is exactly what I wanted to see and what I next intend to do with my SCORE. Up until your post, the only glance I had of this potential was a brief moment in Hemistorm's video when he casually dropped the SCORE body onto the RR.

Would these be the necessary parts for the tires and wheels pictured?

If you have the Score then yes, all you need is wheels and tires from a Yeti Jr. I would just get some new take offs from eBay. Then you don't have to worry about gluing them or anything. I've seen sets go for around &30-$40.

On a side note, the rear axle has the wider hex adapters for the wheels to attach to. I'm betting that if you had a narrower set of these hex adapters, no cutting would be necessary on the rear of the body to get full tuck. Nothing you can do about the front but I wish I would've had those smaller hexes for the rear. In any case, I didn't end up having to trim that much away.

Thanks for the head's up. I'll definitely have to get a smaller pinion when I order the RR tires. No one else has mentioned it, but my SCORE's 40T motor gets really hot 10-15 minutes into a run. I measure above 180 degrees and that's with the air temperature being 30 degrees and running on either packed dirt of a mix of concrete and ice. My drivetrain seems free enough, but maybe I'll take it all apart and rebuild it this weekend to make sure that something isn't binding up.

Just found this on eBay. Looks interesting enough. 7 redundant pics with not one of them installed so we can actually see how it works. :roll:

I bought 2 of these from his first run and can say they make a huge difference in both the Yeti Jr and TT Jr. Moving the battery weight down lower keeps it planted better although the Yeti Jr does still roll a lot. This also allows a full sized servo to be easily mounted.
 
Finally installed the 3000kV 2445 motor and it looks like stock speed on 2s, which is what I wanted. I have some of the Losi pinions in a box of mini gear I'll try to locate today and see if I can get some more wheel speed.

Losi pinions won't fit the shaft of the 2445 motor. But I had some from a Chinese RTR I've held on to for years. The smallest was a 22tooth. I had to file down about 1/3 of the set screw to be able to clear the motor plate. Now it has some low speed cruising without cogging and a some go fast.

What's the word on the cbercfab stuff coming out?

Oh ya, JEC racing mentioned about making aluminum/ss trailing arms. And SS links too (assuming uppers). Not sure if those will work though.
 
I put springs AX31444 (0.7lbs/in) on the rear shocks, then stuffed the factory rear springs on the short front shocks. With my battery forward and the 25mm of preload, the 1.12lb/in springs work well.

Very nice, looks proper now and lipo should have been the base setup from Axial! "thumbsup"

Longtime lurker breaking the ice here. Got the Yeti Jr. on a whim in November cause I had just gotten rid of all my RC... Anyway, go look at the cbercfab site. I just got the battery tray in the mail yesterday. Gonna try work on it some this weekend.
 
Been running this battery tray for a couple weeks or so now and I'm really happy with it. It's the 3D printed version that's available on eBay right now. It's really well designed and fits extremely well into the Jr. chassis. You swap a couple screws, remove the leftover parts, very easy install. For the price, I can highly recommend one of these to anyone. I'm still running my little Hitec servo with good results but it's nice to know that if it breaks I can easily upgrade to a full size servo without issue. It also incorporates front fender wells and a nice little tray for the receiver. Handling has also improved due to the lower CG of the battery and climbing is better because of the more central weight bias. All in all, a very well thought out and nicely designed piece for less than $30 shipped. Get one while you can.
