Work Boot review

The Red Wing Irish Setter wedge is my favorite by far. Current pair is 6yrs old and on its 3rd re-sole.

Danner Foreman is a close 2nd

US.ARMY issue cold weather (black leather / gortex) boot is a must for Cleveland winters! Once the snow / slush / mud hits, its all I wear. NEVER had cold or wet feet in these!

I wear Oliver 14" mining boots at work. Much better than Matterhorn or John Deere. And Double H jump boots everywhere else. Gonna get a pair of Corcoran WWII brown jump boots soon.

im torn between redwing and double H i think the redwings take longer to get broke in. but i feel they are both a great quality boot. and locally i can get both resoled or repaired as needed. i had okay luck with Justin, Cat, and Wolverine when i was younger. and would recommend them as a cheaper alternative to someone that doesnt "live" in their boots. in the end you have to get something that fits properly to be comfortable.

Aww, I could've done an unbox vid last night! Lol, they just came in

As for prices, I couldn't really remember and like I said, vB wouldn't let me put up everything I wrote, so kept it short. If I recall, all the boots were around the same price 120- 140ish. Wolverines were the cheapest at 95

I thought about Redwings after buying the Timberlands. I didn't want to go check them out anyway and kick myself. I'll keep them in mind for next time. We'll see how these do today

I really want to try a pair of redwing boots. But I tear up the leather on the toes faster than the soles sometimes. My job requires a lot of kneeling and crawling, carrying large pieces of Alum and polycarb, causing the tops of my toes to tear pretty fast. Also setting heavy things on my toes so i can get my fingers under them. Hate to buy an expensive pair or redwings that the top part is only going to last just as long as a not so expensive pair.

For years I used the company voucher for boots, I tried Harley Davidson's(which blew my knee's out), tried hytest which lasted about 3mths then the coolant swelled the sole, tried cat, timberwolf, etc..finally one year the company voucher allowed us to get redwings. I cringed at the $225 price tag but after a year of wearing them and they still kept going I was quite pleased. Unfortunately the cv now has to be used on antislip boots..and sad thing is more people have fallen and gotten hurt because of it. so I said :flipoff: you can keep your cv and I splurged full boat for redwings..but they are tax deductible"thumbsup"

I work in the world's largest gantry garden, we cut titanium, alumn and steel, the machines are 5axis and the beds are anywhere from 80-220 ft long. We are always crawling around on ,in and around em. Even though they say Redwings aren't slip resistant I have yet to slip in them in over 5yrs. The approved anti slip ones that I bought, I fell down the stairs coming off the machine on the first day I had them. Sometimes safety has their head up their..... And just follows what they're told.

So after wearing them all day, I need some insoles, lol. They're bitchin' if you're walking around, but just standing still they don't really cushion. Also, because I'm used to a flat shoe and these new ones are slightly inclined, it's something I'll just get used to

When I was a cook I had to wear noslip shoes in the kitchen - for obvious reasons. I can walk through an inch of oil and not slip. I can carry a hundred pound box through an inch of oil and not bat an eyelash. With those same shoes you walk outside onto concrete that is even the tiniest bit damp and you will be on your ass faster than you can say "oh shit."

Maybe safety didn't think hard enough about your specific work conditions and what kind of equipment you need.

I would not wear my work shoes outside of the kitchen if it was raining. Period.

Never had Redwings outside the bedroom, but been wanting their work shoes. Pops is old school barber on his kicks all day, still does it even at 78, wore wings most of his career. My OG Doc Martens lasted for years and felt good on my dawgs with the hours on them, have no idea of the quality now.

Trust me try on a pair of red wings and you will find the money somewhere.almost like a junky looking for a fix.

I always end up wearing out the toe and having the metal plate exposed. Redwing has a coating of some kind they put on the toe, it looks like spray in bedliner and it holds up well.

Redwing makes toe caps for that reason and should be available at your redwing dealer. I've been wearing Redwings for 15+years and even if Im just going shopping with my wife or running arrends around town Ill almost always wear my boots over tennis shoes. Because a good pair of "broke in" Redwings are more confortable than any tennis shoe that ive tried. IMO

Sent from my phone using my fingers.

I'm on my third set of resoles on my redwings. The leather is still good, no stitching coming apart yet. I have the coating on the toes that Violator mentioned. A bit spendy but worth it. Resoles only cost $60

Started wearing red wings when I hired out for UPRR 15 years ago. I get 1/2 ever year. They hold up to walking on ballast all day and water proof. I like 'em! "thumbsup"

Hopefully you didn't just jinx yourself...
:ror: I hope not too..lol but I haven't slipped since I posted that."thumbsup"
Time to buy a lottery ticket..lol

I never got to finish my post because the boss walked in and I didn't have my wings on yet..lol
The pair I have are mid highs, they have the alumn toe in them (which at a 13 4E is a blessing in itself..lol) and have the inner liner that keeps them insulated and waterproofed. First day I wore the other approved ones I was steam cleaning something and the wand went over the top of my boot. I couldn't get them off fast enough. Too late I took a couple layers of skin off. I cussed like a sailor the rest of the day, I went right in and ordered a new pair of redwings(they don't carry my size anywhere in st Louis..lol) now my one day old off brand approved boots sit there while I still have funny looking spot on my foot. fockers!!! :flipoff:

About the same as their approved safety glasses, over the past yr they've been riding our $$$ over them and ear plugs. IF you get caught without them on(even cleaning them) they will write you up. I mean these guys are walking the floor on a hourly basis. But anyways in the last couple months my eyes have been acting up. Well I noticed the weekends I haven't been. I started paying attention and the SG's are magnifying, I mean pretty bad. So went in to the eye dr, they even said it wasn't right and was causing my eye problems..So needless to say I now have to wear glasses after having 20/15 vision all my life!! Head of safety says ohh yeah they do, I'll have to look into that.:x

It's funny, the 2 guys at work have the Wolverine Tbones, and I have my TL BW's and it looks like we're all walking around in sweet, leather loafers 8)
