What the newest cheap servo hotness?

Tactic servos aren't upgrades at all - your first link is for a stock Axial RTR SCX10 servo and it will crap out on you very quickly.

Just upgrading the gear doesn't increase torque rating or speed, either - might make it last a bit longer before stripping out, that's all.

The weakest part of all Axial products is the servo horn and servo, if you stick with stock plastic links they may absorb some of the shock being transferred to the steering components at the expense of precision handling.

The $25 Power HD LW-20MG is stronger and faster than that. 20kg-cm/277.7 oz-in (6.6v), 0.16s. Alloy shell and waterproof - one of the best uber-cheap servos out there, commonly used, too.

How about reading this thread and seeing all the other options posted?

No sense buying another of what was just broken...

I personally recommend spending even more however, and going with even better servos for much better performance and far less frequent breakage.

If financial reasons at the current time put those out of reach - grab the PowerHD and start saving for a much better one in the future..

$60-ish gets you much better and about $100 gets the top models.

(BTW this is the 244th post in this thread... hint-hint)

For 30.00 you won't get a strong, fast ,QUALITY servo that lasts. So when you replace it for the second time, you're out 60.00. , next failure your at 90.00 .

For 100. You can get a PM, Holmes, or Savox that will last years. Buy quality once, rather than saving money 3 times

Hang up and Drive

I second the Power HD servo, I have several of them on various flavors and all have been great. They do the job I ask and are inexpensive. I have had more expensive HiTec, and savox servos and they all did the job of turning the tires, even in binds so I dont see the need to spend high bucks for a servo in my rigs.

Is anyone using one of these or another offering from JX? It's $40 shipped from the USofA.

Still no word on the V.2 of the 959 for $34.99? I mean it's able to pump over 400oz. without the need for a bec!? Might go ahead and pull it for the ol' lady's rig just for the hell of it and see what it's about, you know what they say.. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The final product will be a PM S470, but not right now.

This is the newly upgraded version of Tower Pro MG959. The new PCB and IC control systems make it more accurate than previous versions.
Its internal gearing and motor are also upgraded to improve dead bandwidth and centering.

This version features a case machined from 6061 aluminum and comes with the heavy duty servo arm pictured.
These servos come from the original manufacturer of the Tower Pro servo line and we are an authorized reseller.
Don't be fooled by counterfeit, low quality servos being sold elsewhere.

Timely thread, as my stock (E10) servo laid down on me yesterday. I ordered the Power HD LF-20MG.

Yep i looked back at this thread yesterday. Even after re-reading it i did the exact same thing i always do. Ordered a solar to use as a steering serve. Which i will use until i am ready to start the upgrade process. At which time the solar become a servo winch and I install the reliable promodeler as me steering.

I have a Solar D772 in my Ascender and TRX4, I tried each with and without an external BEC and the TRX4 is fine without the BEC, but the Ascender stock ESC needs the BEC. It's set at 7.4 and works great.

The only weird thing is that the one in the Ascender (older) makes noise all the time, yet the newer one in the TRX4 is quiet.

I also have 2 PowerHD 20kg waterproof servos, and they are silent and strong, even with no external BEC.

I'm probably the least credible source for this info since I've never damaged a crawler/trail truck servo in almost a decade. I have ruined 2 servos, one in a Slash 4x4 after years of pure abuse and one in an Arrma Senton 6s that was covered under warranty.

I have the Turnigy version sitting here waiting for my Gen7 to show up!

Just ordered one of these as well for my daughter's SCX10. For only $14.19 shipped to my door I couldn't resist trying it out. Going to wire it up with a Castle BEC to feed it 6v of constant power. Some say you can give it more voltage but I figure I better not push it with this cheap of a servo. Besides 6v is the highest recommended I been seeing anyway.

We'll see and I will report back.

This one will be here Friday. Don't know if it qualifies as "cheap", but $50 for 650 oz-ins is really cheap in my book. I will open it up as soon as it's in my hands and post some pics.

I have the PDI-6221's but I'm curious if anyone knows what's the FASTEST of these cheap servos. The $10 JX are a bit slow even at 7.4v. I'm actually looking to put one in a boat and a SC truck.

I think I'm leaning towards that CLS-5830HV if the specs are true, anyone try it yet? It's either that or a used Savox SC-1257TG or 1258TG for ~$40.
