Depends on what you like to do. I don't mind jogging or even running behind mine.
You'll be lucky not to trip over urs at a slow walk.
Nothing wrong with that if that's what ur after. I'm just putting it in perspective for you.

I'm looking at getting an scx and i have a few parts left over from my previous RC car days, about 15 years ago (yikes, maybe a little more?! i'm getting older). I have an old futaba 2 channel radio and receiver, servo. I have what was at the time a very nice novak Tempest ESC but that will be no use to me for a crawler since it has no reverse. It was (still is actually) in my Losi XXT. I also have a novak Rhino charger. I have a few motors too, at the time i remember there were "stock" and "modified" motors. Mine were all stock, i have no idea what that means as far as turns, or suitability for a crawler.
So my question:
Should i buy a scx kit and use my existing radio and motor and just pick up a new esc and batteries, or should i buy all new stuff, or should i get an RTR? Budget is a limitation and i'm not afraid to do a little work to save some money. I'll also need to pop for a new charger and batteries (lipo i assume?)
I was just in your boat ... and decided on the SCX10 Jeep Kit 279.00 but I went with a Castle MMP ESC ( only did this because I will run a cheap brushed motor now and will upgrade to brushless later ) I also bought a cheap Traxxas Titan 550 motor ... Towerhobbies has 40.00 off total
ohh i bought a Castle Link and Bec as well ... I already have a Airtronics MX3 Radio and a Hitec Servo from my Savage
my rubicon now sports a 17.5 tekin redline gen1 brushless sensored motor,
Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro sensored ESC,
Castle Creations 10amp BEC,
twin 3s 3000 Lipo batteries in a saddle pack formation on the sliders.
Running 56t spur and a 12t pinion both 32p for a 4.66 ratio.

I just finished my first crawler, a Dingo from the kit. I'm using the LRP K7 21.5 turn brushless with an LRP Spin Super EEC on 2s 5300. Started at 16/87. Very smooth super slow speeds. I will go back to the 20 tooth stock pinion to see what the difference is. I've been racing SC but the crawler is such an attractive piece of hardware. I suspect there will be many options to go before I'm done.
I'm running a Mamba Max Pro with LRP Vector K7 21.5 on 2S lipo currently and it's butter smooth and very quiet but it's a bit slow for my taste so I'm thinking of trying it on 3S.
