What is the best crawler servo under $100?

Folks keep talking about the Hitec servos, but the ones with over 400oz/in are $130+

I've never been a fan of Hitec at all. Some swear by them, but I've had some die, the newest one that I got is obnoxiously loud (it makes Savox seem quiet) and the only charger I ever bought from them overcharged and puffed two batteries. You can certainly get more power from other manufacturers for less. Oh and there's the fact that Hitec stupidly uses a plastic gear in almost (possibly all) of their servos!

This is a timely thread for me, I have been out of the loop for a year or so. Need to buy a servo and there are a few out that are new to me Savox etc, I had always used Hitech 7955s? or 7954s cant recall the model. I have to agree they are loud and buzzy, but have served me well on three different SCX based builds great info on the plastic gear being used something I didn't know. The best servo I have used was a Futaba 9257, it was first in my shafty, then a Berg, then in a Short Course truck for a season and finally in one of my first SCX builds never a problem and going strong when I sold the SCX. I think it was close to $100 dollars at the time (2009 or so) expensive at the time but it did its job, I haven't looked lately but I don't think it is available now. Thanks for the info.

Savox released two new servos last week! SW2210SG which brushless and is 361 oz/in at 6v and 500 oz/in at 7.4v speed is at .11/sec at 7.4v

Other one is called the 1212sg and isn’t brushless but is 500 oz/in at 6v and 638 oz/in at 7.4v
It’s a little slower though at .14 sec at 7.4v

I think I’m going to get one of these. Way too many mixed reviews on this site for Reefs, Promodeler. The MKS BLS550 I’m still looking at though but other than being loud there’s not a lot of negative feedback on Savox

Thanks for the heads up on the new Savox servos! I hadn't even heard about them before you mentioned them.

They seem to have specs similar to 1230, but waterproof.

I ended up buying the Reefs Raw 500. Noise was a factor or I would have bought one of the new Savox units. I almost bought the MKS HBL550 but it’s not really waterproof and that was important to me. We’ll see how it pans out. I am taking the recommendation and trying 3S.

I just ordered one of the 1212sg servos to try. Specs are good and the prices ($90) is right. I have had great luck with Savox in airplanes, heli's and cars.

Torque @6.0V - 36.0 kg/500 oz-in
Torque @7.4v - 46.0 kg/638 oz-in
Speed @6.0V - 0.17 sec/60 deg
Speed @7.4v - 0.14 sec/60 deg

And waterproof as well, so why not give it a try. It may not be what I would choose for something like a SCT due to speed, but that is plenty fast for a crawler.

Definitely let us know how it performs.

It's not that I don't get along with him. It's that I contacted him to determine why my 470 won't turn the tires on my TRX-4, and maybe my wording sucked, but he gave me an obnoxious and unprofessional response. I've never received such a poor response from any company. He called me an idiot while hiding behind another customer. I mean what company in this world would respond to a customer with negative words from another customer? I'm still dumbfounded by his response. I don't think even the biggest fanboy would think his response is okay or justified.

I'm definitely not the only customer in the world that thinks the 470 isn't worth the money. There are a handful on this forum alone that have had similar experiences. If I'm going to spend another $100 on a servo it will be with something that works as claimed and has great customer service behind it.
He is a dick, and his servos don't last

I also prefer Savox 1230. Open the case a little and dip it in Corrosion X. I just put a 2290 in a VP Origin.
Don't like Greefs servos to many bad 1's and no support. I shouldn't have to ask more than twice for warranty/support/help. Seen to many of them fail with fellow crawlers.
Not a protek fan either

I support that ...great servo for the money"thumbsup"

I also have a direct power servo of their’s. It’s 3s direct power and was around $75. It’s not brushless, but performs really well. I don’t know if they discontinued it or I missed it when searching for it. I’ll try again later when I get some time.

I have a few of the same AGF servo listed above, but the 36kg version (A80BHSW, instead of A80BHMW). Not sure how I ended up on that rating instead of the 40kg, but here we are. It might have to do with the first I purchased being for an ARRMA mojave EXB roller, and I chose speed over absolute torque. And then I just kept purchasing the same one.

Regardless, anything I've purchased from AGF has done me well. Even the cheap 24kg with the gold anodized case that's under $25.
