What are you working on??

Took the Trucks and a buddy to the pit portion of Cathence Preserve in Topsham. Bashed the Wreadbolt and Yeti.
Yeti flipped a million times. The Wreadbolt performed great. I think different tires maybe, bumpers, and kink or two worked out.
Overall, fun times.

On a whim I came up with an idea for a pulley block to double up a winch line for double the pulling power.
I used a pulley from some window hardware and the hook from the failed small winch anchor.



I also put a solid anchor on the frame for the end of the winch line.



It should work pretty slick!!

That's pretty sweet. You'll need it if you try to winch up one of the rigs I'm bringing to Ried.

Figure I might as well show you guys my scx10 project I'm building for my wife. I bought it on ebay as a easy project but turned into a complete basket case. Pieced together with bits from everything it seems. The power train is in good shape though. I took everything completely apart and cleaned and lubed. I had to shorten and tap all on the links to fit the proline 2 door jeep body. I've got the wheelbase set at 11.5". I'm trying to keep costs down and using as much as I can that came with the truck so the proline hammers and plastic wheels are staying but I filled them with CI double deuces and the front wheels are weighted too.

I made braces between the shock towers to stiffen things up. Got new driveshafts to replace the twisted ones that came on it.









 
So, something has always struck my fancy about 8x8 Trials Trucks, like this one:



After seeing the two 6x6s at Reid last weekend I got to thinking...
...and tinkering...
I took two axle halves with inputs and mated them together to make an intermediate axle that will drive the front axle.
I mocked up a pair of steering axles and shortened a drive shaft to a proper length.
I will probably set it up with all 4 axles having their own 4 link setup, rather than an axle-to-axle control arm(like in this pic).



I also think I have found a suitable start to a chassis, but time will tell...
I may just build a custom chassis from steel, like Kaler has done with his BAD ASS exo-cages.



This will definitely be an experiment in engineering on my part.
I'm thinking that due to it's estimated 2~3 feet of overall length, I will need to steer all 4 axles
Stay tuned, this could get interesting...."thumbsup"

....or end up in the scrap heap....:lmao:
 
I needed to put the lower control arms on a lower plane than the uppers, so I had to make 4 crossmembers in order to mount the lower control arms.
I used some 1/4" Lexan and mapped out my cuts.







I also drilled and tapped the holes for the control arm screws(3mm).



After SEVERAL hours of trial and error, I found the magic spot to keep the suspension geometry in check throughout it's range of travel.

The intermediate axle is ready to rock and roll, the front axle is just mocked up for now.
But I am making some progress!!!!

 
Looking good so far Rob. The old Ford goes under the knife this weekend. Complete disassembly and rebuild. Axles are getting much needed bearings(finally) Need to make new lower links. Found I had bent the crap out of the rears. Guess just adding to a link isn't the best idea. Cant wait to get going. Got me 2 sheets of scale diamond plate. Need some steel rod and a couple of small sheets of aluminum. Probably take me 2 weeks or better to get it completed.
 
Fleabay. HR 2, 9x11 sheets for $12. It not supper thick. very easy to bed and crimp to make arch's. I messed up when I order foams. I got CI deuces wild foams for the swapper xl's...ooopps. got one in and it fills the pits to the max! Having an issue getting the beads to catch all the way around. Should side hill like a champ though. Got my work cut out for me I guess :lmao:

I ordered a warn mini winch yesterday for the same run. Not sure if its going on the tundra or the beater yet.
 
I put a mmp and a novak 13.5 brushless with a cc 10a bec in the tundra today. I messed with the setup in the mmp a little bit, goes pretty good but still need to tune it a little more I think. For those of you running the mmp, what are your settings?

Most of my settings are the same as Roberts. other then my lipo cut off is set @ 3.2v per cell my reverse is set at 70% and I have 20% punch control ( because the rok 412 is an animal) breaks at 40% as is drag break. If youre trying to fine tune the throttle, that's where throttle curve comes in. I had to do a lot of tweaking to get it where I like it. Left @ stock settings it was blow the tires off as soon as you touched the trigger. Mine the first 1/8th of the throttle is set low so I can just putter. Don't really kick in a lot of power till about 1/3rd pull. The real big power is in the last 1/4. Only problem you cant adjust throttle curves with the field programmer
