Its been a long time since I posted on here. I recently acquired a used TRX4 on the cheap. At first sight it looked great. Once I got it home I noticed all of the servo shifting parts were removed. Upon further inspection the axles do not have the shift cables. I think they are Traxxas axles but I'm not sure. So I ordered a new HW 2 in1 combo, 2 spd servo mount and the linkage, A receiver box, high clearance links and a steering servo.

The truck was leaning to one side when I got it so I pulled the shocks. I watched a video on the GTS shocks and I cant get passed the oil gushing out the tops so I ordered some new Proline scale shocks. Now its waiting time for more parts..

Anyone have any setup or mod suggestions?

Keep taking it apart, every nut, bolt, gear, and pad etc. and clean everything. Silicone oil can be nasty but you will get that with the PL shocks. The HW is a nice upgrade. You likely have the sport model which is a solid rig.

Funny, Traxxas shocks are the only shocks I've never had leak. 3 sets of gts shocks, a slash that has held fluid for 15 years and some Traxxas big bore shocks retrofitted into my Bomber.

Likely, your GTS shocks just need the o-ring that goes in the top cap. I think it's easy to cut those when installing the cap if they aren't fully seated and greased.

I would pick up a couple of GTS rebuild kits and try them again.

There are no o-rings on the caps at all @#$$%#$#@#. I ordered 2 rebuild kits so I'll get them fixed. This project truck has been a land mine field of missing parts and parts assembled incorrectly. Now I have a set of GTS, Proline and Rock lizard shocks... I watched some videos on YouTube for the Rock Lizard shocks and they looked decent...

GTS are your super dependable daily drivers.

ProLine are your performance shocks that take a little more maintenance.

Rock lizards are your "as seen on tv" specials.
😀

I already got another set of GTS take-offs from eBay for my RTR Optic, which even though it has not even been DRIVEN yet, has pissed all the oil out of the driver-side rear shock...

Unbelievable!

(since the rebuild kits are at least cheap, I may do my best at fixing them up with green slime and the like and use them on a beater build.)

Mount those Desert Lizards upside-down and it solves any leak issues. Still dry and full after several runs.

Just a tip for whenever you get around to them.

Just to be sure, you mean the Vanquish S8E shocks pissed the oil out and not the Traxxas GTS, correct?

Correct, Vanquish shock fail...😖
Yeah Vanquish really needs to seek some help from the suspension experts and produce a second generation of shocks apparently. They leak for most people.

Question for you GTS guys... With the shocks stripped 2 of them travel up and down smoothly and the other 2 take more force almost like they are bent. I put all new internals and seals and pistons in them and no change. The shock shafts roll on a flat surface with not wobble so I don't think they are bent. I was thinking about taking some sand paper to the piston to see if it will free up a little. Any suggestions? Id really like to use these shocks but not like they are...

I did put the Rock Lizard shocks on. I set them up the way I saw them in a YouTube video and on the truck they are way too stiff, almost like they ate solid rods... I assume taking some oil out will help with that.... Anyone have some setup advice?

Thanks all!

Inspect the pistons visually. Do you see any burrs?

To me, it sounds like the problem is on the lower end of the shock body and either the X-ring seals have swelled or the spacer or cap is defective. You said you replaced the seals, but did you check the spacer and cap? Did you use Traxxas replacement seals?

Just loosening the lower cap should take some pressure off the X-rings and this alone should allow the shafts to cycle more smoothly. Try that. Loosen the lower cap a 1/4 turn at a time and see if the shafts become easier to move? Oh and did you coat the seals with green slime or shock oil before installing?

Also verify that the shock shafts aren't scratched.
