Project Zeus: Cycon's Steven Eugenio Trophy Truck Build

I think he was asking if you were possibly making more to sell. (i think we all know it is custom made.... No rc company has enough patience and finesse to make something this cool)

Uhh.... Not at all saying Cycon's work is inferior but look at an erbe or something, some serious engineering there. I think the thing is it's just too costly to make something like that at a large scale. It might have to have less quality parts

Wow. I tried limiting mine down to just about that and it totally did not work at all, so back to 3.75" and 5" it went. Granted mine is not a truck, and have a 60/40 weight bias to the rear. You making progress on the body yet? Also, we're do for another edit, so what cha got for us now? "thumbsup" Movie Monday you know....
Yeah with solid axles it's a little different, extra travel ends up causing more problems. Drive shaft angle gets jacked up, not to mention you're more at risk for breaking things. But I have the body here, just need to make the mold. Been a little busy but I'm gonna get it done soon. Won't do another vid till I have some sort of body on there.

I here what you're saying, but that's designed in CAD though. Cost is a huge factor, like with anything. Just look at the hardcore for example. It probably cost so much to produce they just stopped because cost & return were so close. That's the only reason I could think why they would stop production.

Hey rapid, I told you a while ago I was going to build twin beam truck so here's a link to the thread. I really dig that camera mount and I'm thinking about building one like that for my 1:1 buggy lol.

2015 desert build off.. '79 f-250 - RCShortCourse

That's awesome. I'll sub for sure. Let's see if you can pull this off :flipoff:

Hey Rapid i have a Quick question.... ok so i am to the Cage part of my build and i am just not understanding the whole thing.....
-if you build your cage to fit your body and it touches it , isnt it gonna rub the paint off from touching the cage. or does the cage only support the body in hard crashes? do you paint the body before building the cage? and how to you know your body is going to fit your cage??? thanks....( yes i know it wasnt really a quick question...=|)

Alright so the cage is just suppose to generally fit the cage, not fit snug on the body. Another reason you don't want to make it fit exact is to leave room for body posts and other things that might get mounted. Pretty much you're making it so you can't see it through the windows, that's why I leave the body clear until the cage is completed.

Also that's why planning is so important, when you model the whole thing in wood you see how the cage needs to be to fit. Hope that helps.

Hey rapid, you used a jig on this cage didn't you? Do you know where I could find one? I think it would help me out a bunch on future builds!!!!

No didn't use a jig on this one. We still need to make one actually, like you said it would help a ton.

Zeus all naked and stuff.. not driving it is killing me right now

All naked.... So what is the hold up on getting this thing back on track? You need to build a buggy instead, rear drive train doesn't break.

lol partially naked. Like I said I'm trying to get thing's sandblasted before it goes back together, nothing's broken.

Surprisingly it's been hard trying to find a shop where I can do it.

Who powdercoated the Baldwin truck? They will have one or can turn you on to one. Check into media blasting as well for your search. Some brake shops have one, as well as some auto repair shops. Just be sure to get it coated with rattle can clear or something once its done, or you will have rust ville, especially from fingerprints. So how is the body coming along now since you only have "fab" time?

It was a powdercoating shop, but they're 45min away. I was trying to find somewhere closer so it wouldn't be a 2 day process. I've searched for media blasting places as well, but they're all commercial. There's just not as many places over here, I'm sure you have shops everywhere. But you're saying steel could rust even after it's been blasted?

I'm actually going to grab the plaster for the body now, they didn't have any yesterday.

Yes it will rust, blasting it removes all the oxide and whatever coating on the steel you didn't burn off in the welding process. Fingerprints are bad, and if your weather is humid, for sure. Blasting cleans the metal. Go take a scrap piece and scuff it with sand paper, steel wool or in the dirt, get it "shiny" and see for yourself. Try some murriatic acid, brush the welds and you may like the results. rinse when done, dry it and clear it.

Alright, thanks for the info. It's not the welds, I'm just trying to get it a lighter shade so sandblasting was just the simplest option. I was also considering what the real truck uses. You've probably heard of it, it's called Steel-it. Just not sure how much that would run me..

Real Zeus is almost a light grey

Scotch brite and wd40, wipe with a rag. That is what all the car builder used that I was involved with.

Alright so it's finally time to get the body for this thing started, think I've waited long enough. My idea is to use this insulation foam and layer it up from bottom to top. Sculpt it a bit, then vacuum form it when it's all done. We'll see how it goes. Here's my first sketch for the body shape. BJ and TJ Flores also use this one so I have plenty of reference pics. Working on the bird's eye view now, then I can use that to start cutting the foam. Really excited!

Looks cool. Are you going to make it wrap into the spares? Keep us posted on the progress. Also, take into consideration relief angles, if you will, so your body will come off your mold. I made a cool one with all kinds of details, only getting a few bodies off it because I didn't even think about that. Useless now, 10 % success on removal without having to cut them off of it. Sooooo frustrating.

Thanks, I'm getting ready to cut the first layer now. I'm making the rear like a pick up bed, then I'll just cut it to fit. Thanks for the tip though, I could imagine how frustrating that would be. Was it an sc body?
