Panther Tires - Questions

One thing to remember, from all of out testing, compound has as much to do with wet traction as tread design.

that's a good point on the masher's and more then likely why alot of us run the "backward's"
 
For standard 2.2 tires I've always liked the M2k's. I always ran the M2 compound ones though. I've run other 2.2tires and didnt liek them near as much.

I currently run hybrid tires where they are maxx sixed tires with 2.2 sidewalls grafted in. 1 set is badlands treads narrowed and rotated a bit to break the tread up. The other set is maxx mashers and badlands halfed together with 2.2 sidewalls. I run them cause they work and I like the added clearance. No production 2.2 tire this tall ever performed this well.

I'd like to see a tire in the 5.25 area for size. I've always had good luck with the block pin type tread. If they block is big enough it wont fold all over but offers tons of edges to get bite. These tires also tend to be very flexable and I use foams to tune them to how I want. Most tires with this type of tread have no sidewall tread. This does hurt them in some case's. Putting some shorter tread on the sidewall edges would help this spot alot.

The key would be getting the treads placed and spaced out right to allow good traction forward,backwards and allow a good side hilling bite while being open enough to allow good cleanout during those wet,muddy and mossy adventures."thumbsup"

sort of a waffle design, like the old nike shoes.


The idea if the perfect tire is elusive, the Utah guys would almost use a tire that is nearly bald and glue type sticky, we here in Montana have granite boulders with very extreme breakovers and large holes we need aggressive tread thats sticky, and the Oregon guys run through mud dirt and whatever else a you could imagine and need tires that clean out well and don't lose their grip when wet.

It might be worth looking at more than 1 tread pattern in a few different compounds.

Open the RD up to several different groups here and spend some quality time taking feed back and you will have a real winner on you're hands"thumbsup"
 
yep that looks like gladiator's the knuckle's design would be good if it was a little more agrassive. it will all boil down the local terrain in the end. it is just like racing you dont run the same tire's on pavement as you would on carpet.
lookin over your tires the plow boy's and cobra's both look good but not tall enough. the chameleon and the gecko also have a nice tread to them.
 
its actually the opposite. they are a square version of giant trac tires. the black lines are the treads themselves.
 
Those Simex tires were on a lot of the rigs in Australian Warn/Arb chalenge and they performed real well. That's what I read anyway. I agree with most of what has been said about compound, except I wonder if a tire can be made with multiple compounds? Sticky, soft tread and a slightly stonger sidewall with the same adhesion and flexable enough to do the job. As far as tread pattern goes, wide open lugs(not as big of a void as the Red Rocks) with an agressive sidewall patern from tread to about 1/4" from the bead. This should let the tire flex but not all the way to the beadlock. If the sidewall pattern was directional you could "flip" the tire to gain or decreese the traction of the sidewall.

The last thing I would have to sugjest is please do not forget the 40 seires guys. There is what I believe 2 to maybe 3 comp worthy tires right now and that makes for an open segment in that market.

I'd agree with that. We NEED more options for the soopers....XL's are suckin.
 
We don't dig into dirt, we climb rocks.... we want soft rubber, the tread pattern isn't as important as the compound.

Plus, on rocks... lateral sliding doesn't happen like in off camber muddy situations. I don' t mud bog... so clearance, grip, and forward traction are the two main things I need.

Those Pit Bull Rockers above are nice, I might be getting them for my 1:1 in the spring time. Proline will start making more crawling tires.... Im sure of it. They'll do it right.

So will Panther."thumbsup" I have been running there tires for years in 1/8 buggies. Panther is a great company that actually listens to their customers. "thumbsup" Thanks again Panther.

who doesnt dig into dirt you. some of us run across more then just rocks on course's and I am not talking about mud bogging. but I do know that some tread patterns work alot better then others even on just rocks.
 
I think something like this, in an uber-sticky compound, could be the ticket!

i was just looking for a pic of those to post, but ya had beat me to it. Pit Bull Rockers. Probably the nest tire for my 1:1 toyota crawler.

For an RC tire I would make the sipes much more aggressive. Possibly make the lugs a "scooped" design as well.

good sidewall to use for traction, but not too much that you get hung up because of it.

I like the idea of different compounds throughout the tire as well if possible. uber-sticky tread and upper sidewall transforming into a stiffer sidewall as it goes towards the bead
 
I'd like to see a near copy of super swamper"s IROC's ! In my opion they are the best all around 1:1 tire,and they are so squishy you could almost use the same rubber compound. I don't think it's possible to make a "perfect" tire for everything,so do like the the real tire companies do and make at least 3 different treads and compounds. More choices is the American way!
