Optic Kit Coming

The wheels are the most disappointing part of the kit IMO. They simply aren't that unique or new.
The plain, retro-esque design combined with the standard hex hardware makes them look like China direct ebay specials. Full scale hardware should make them better but I don't know if they will ever be considered one of my preferred wheel designs.

They are kind of retro looking, which is what they are going for, but they are underwhelming.
Maybe kind of retro, but I love slot mags. Underwhelming is a great way to put it.

I agree 100%. I thought they were Boom Racing wheels the instant I spotted them on the Livestream. Scale hardware would certainly help, but the design is completely uninspiring or, as Col_Sanders put it, underwhelming.

Just so everybody sees what we are talking about, here's a photo of them.

I’m sure it won’t be long before we see a 3D printed version of that body.
That’s my one nitpick with the Origin. So many crappy 3D panel prints! 🤮 For Fox sake, sand off the layer lines.

Oh and 2.2 wheels and tires don’t usually look good on this rig.

With you there on the '3D Printing' Pros out there. lmao Some of the shit I see I wouldn't put in my own rig if I printed it on my v2 Ender3. lol A LOT OF IT looks just terrible. lol

Hey now on that last sentence. lmao.
I think my 2.2 wheels look right at home on the Optic. Though I do have 1.9 tires. heh

Right. The lines do look hideous!

I do agree with the 2.2 tires, but I kinda like the look Josh and Brandon did using the 2.2 wheels with the 1.9 tires. Problem for me is that I’ve never had luck mounting them.

I put the JCon Holds 1.9s on the VP 2.2 Tanks as you can see in my pic.

It wasn't HARD but a little tedious.

I found that once the wheel 1/2s are going together and starting to snug up on the tire, you have to work the tire by tugging it a little bit to get it to set on the bead while continuing to snug up the wheel 1/2 bolts.
Once the bolts are good and snug and you have the tire setting in the bead nice, you can fully tighten the wheel 1/2s.

Took me a few more minutes than a normal tire/wheel install.

Thanks for the tip. It’s probably my patience that interferes with the mounting process!:ROFLMAO:

Love the looks of your Tanks! I may get me a set a give it a try again.

I've been married, unmarried, and somewhat kind of remarried but not remarried to the same money pit for 35ish years.
I've learned patience even though it often still slams up against the wall. lmao smmfh. heh

Spent the afternoon wheeling the VS 410 Pro, and I just detest straight axles in our terrain. As much as I want an H10, until they drop a portal, I'm gonna have to wait.

It’s surprising to see they did not include scale hardware on the wheels. I didn’t notice this detail at the release. Seems like a cheap move at such a proud moment for VP. They should sooner be throwing in scale hardware of your color choice. I have no skin in the game and I find that annoying.

And I'm glad it's not! Although some of my trails are nicer with portals.

I guess you could run Capra Axles? They are a bit wider though. But may look alright given the wheelbase of the Optic.

I thought of that, but I also wonder if VP has a portal version somewhere in the background. VP denied an Optic kit, and then it fell out of the sky by magic. I'm thinking that a portal version would make sense and should be on there radar.

We have massive rock formations out here with heavy erosion, and running straight axles is a giant pain in the rear. Eroded sandstone tends to be knobby with heavy undercuts, and those punish straight-axle rig pretty bad.

I'll probably break down and get one after the hype dies down. Skimming the threads here gives me some ideas. Honestly, I want to copy one of @smog builds in terms of color and style. His white and green VP Phoenix is still one of my favorite builds of all time.
