Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Haven't posted in here recently:

My forever bike. All City Log Lady w/ 27+ White Industry Hubs, Velociity Blunts, Race Face, Jones Bars, blah blah. Such a fun bike. It handles Vermont's tech trails and climbs no problem:

I got a couple more new bikes since last time too, just don't have pictures up on Photobucket, and I am too lazy and impatient to deal with PB these days. It really sucks.

Damn strait! Nice bike tedo, and good to have you back. Plus bikes are awesome. I've cleaned stuff on my new SStache that shocked me. Plus tires and the AB oval rings are the best things to happen to single speeding in ages IMO.

Oval rings? Seriously?

And, does that mean the rear gear is an oval also or does the chain get floppy?

Oval rings are dumb and failed in the 80s. Or whenever they tried that for the first time…

Not researching modern engineering before discounting it is also dumb. :D The ovals of the 80's were timed all wrong, that's why they died a slow quiet death. I was the biggest skeptic until I tried one. They work, and work very well. The hard part of the oval is where you make the most power on the down stroke, and the easy part is as your opposite leg is coming around to the top, back into the power / down stroke. It's simply physics. I can climb things seated on a SS that I used to have to stand for. They help with traction on standing climbs as well. And no the rear is not an oval. You do have more slack in the chain during the dead portions of the oval, but I've ridden some fairly technical stuff on single speeds with them, and never dropped a chain yet.

So everything we know about spinning is thrown out the window?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Who said ovals completely negate spinning? I think you believe they have some crazy ovalized shape, resulting in a lumpy pedal stroke similar to how cam lobes work or something. That's not the case at all. Most people actually spin smoother, and it feels more natural to be honest. Most people don't spin smooth circles anyway, that's been proven countless times. Learning to spin properly is something you have to consciously work on, and most people never bother. They're simply mashing on the down stroke, and their other foot is just along for the ride.

1980 something said it.

Lazy pedal mashers are losers. Spin.

:ror:

Well **** you guys. :flipoff:

I was an OG single speeder, in my world. And a different bike was fix gear too. No brake also. Spin spin spin was the way.

SS gotta do both, I do the stand and deliver on hard climbs, often in crouched position hovering to avoid spinning out and stalling. Spin when you can and on fast steep downhills, just along for the ride. :ror: "thumbsup" I had oval set on mtb back when, didn't notice difference, but it was old bike, been wondering about ovals on SS, I don't like my chain going too slack.

I'm looking at suspension fork for my SS, been rocking a Reba dual air on geared mtb, need to research what the good air fork is this month. ;-) 8)

Looks good to me,... even if it's just a portion of a mountain bike.

You are a very talented young man, that's pretty impressive stuff. 8)

Haha thanks mate, a Youtube 'like' never goes a miss!

Also really appreciated if you guys share it, good to get my vids to a wider audience

New bike is good. Still nit enough time to tune it in for True Grit but it will be at many other NUE races.

A buddy of mine talked me into doing the 12 hours of Tsali with him on a team. Our team is all recreational riders, so I'm sure we'll be way down the finishing order, but as long as we finish, I don't care. So, I've been trying to up my mileage and difficulty of my rides slowly but surely. Also, I've struggled with calf cramping for the longest time. The LBS gave me a packet of Hammer Nutrition's Perpetuem to try out today in addition to water. I did 15 miles on the SS, including some pretty steep climbs (only walked a short part of one climb :lmao:), and I'm happy to say my legs were tired, but zero cramping. "thumbsup"

Good air fork = fox step cast
Pretty nice looking fork, gotta check my frame spec on head tube, thanks. :)

If you guys are interested... here's the closest thing I do to MTB riding.

Street trials unicycling

Pretty cool, seen a couple unicycle mountain bikers out on the trails once. "thumbsup"

X2, I'm not that talented."thumbsup"

Nice, don't overdo it too quick, finish is the goal at first. Good luck in your race! A guy I ride with who is very bulky muscle has cramping everytime we ride, also hydration is key. Every rider has had cramping at some time and it's not fun. Hope you get it resolved. "thumbsup"
