New rider. Got this bike Saturday (Yamaha fz600) and titled, plated, and insured yesterday. Permit too. But I don't know anyone I can ride with for a little practice so I can go take the driven test and have a full license [emoji49][emoji35]. So right now it's sitting in my garage. Haven't got to ride it at all.

I've gotten 500 miles in the last week or so. Taking my wife and I both now. Wear helmets and protective jackets on anything out of town. This bikes been like a life rejuvenator. Just nice to be excited about something again.

Yeah i know what your saying Mike.
I can have the crappiest week at work , but within minutes of jumping on a motorsickle i,ve got a mile wide smile on my face.

Had some pretty potent cars over the years , but nothing beats grabbing a bike by the scruff of the neck and charging of at the horizon with a body full of adrenalin and burserker gene flowing thru your veins "thumbsup"

That video is pretty cool. But I can't believe they did it with people peppered in the waves and water all around him. That tire would take your damn face off in less than a second.

Not to be donnie downer, but I would highly recommend wearing your gear all the time. It's that quick run to the store when someone will pull out in front of you, you'll hit some chat in the road, etc. But, in the end, it's your choice.

That being said, really glad you're enjoying the new bike. It's an experience that I think everyone should try at least once.

If it's a ten minute ride or shorter, I'd wear boots, helmet, and gloves at the very least. But I'd also be the one with a full on leather racing suit all the time too.

Around town for me is moto specific (armor in the right places) leather jacket, road race boots, shorty gloves, and I always wear a full face helmet. Anything longer, or full on playtime and I am in a one piece suit, and add full gauntlet gloves to that also. I'm a long time (20+ years) ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) guy, I'd rather show up sweaty and alive as dry and dead. Again, not trying to be donnie downer, or a gear nazi, just my own personal opinion having been held down and had asphalt scrubbed out of wounds myself.

I know, and known for years, that in town is the actual highest risk... I have dug asphalt out of a couple nasty rash wounds once. Hot tar really. Ruined all my clothes I had on, rashed into my arms, through my pants, rashed bad one of my hip bone areas where bone pressed the flesh against the road before I stopped. I was a late teen doing approx 30 around a corner and the tar was so hot my tires just slid out. Looking back I was very lucky I stood right up w minimal damage. At the time I was just mad I'd marred the bike.

But back to now- it's sort of a calculated risk on my part. I live in a town of 20k people. Any surrounding towns wishin20+ miles are super rural. Some considered villages so small. I wear boots in town, but rest is just begging to donate flesh to the pavement. I use a lot of caution and try n be ultra aware of my surroundings. It doesn't make me 100% safe. The phone zombie drivers are like blind buffalo barely following traffic rules. I won't ride in a vehicles blind spot or ride in the outside lane unless turning off. People turning onto the main st have been the most dangerous. Short glances both ways then here they come and not always seeing even w my brights on in the day. There's quite a few bikes out in my town in the summer and it's really pretty 50/50 PPE wearers. Almost no cruiser(Harley styles) riders wear head protection, riders on sport bikes tend to be wearing a helmet much more often.

I finally convinced the wife to get a helmet although it's a 3/4 it has a full fold down face shield. An LS2 brand like mine. Pretty much same style as a full without jaw protector. I'm much happier. But in town like I said we are going out to eat or just getting a tan, taking in the summer, or a short trip to the store for a small item like rented movies. We both know the risk but like many others flirt w disaster. Might last years-might be a new road stain tomorrow. Hopefully not.

When I was very young like first memories my mother was turning left off a road, biker was trying to illegally pass on the left and hotrod by and she maybe didn't use blinker or he didn't see it, but he creamed into our passenger side bad and nearly died. I remember the loud crash and glass and all the blood. A couple years last I think 1-2nd grade (on the schoolbus of all places) a cruiser bike was casually passing on a 2lane highway and got over early or our bus driver was road raging, either way I was sitting in front and got to watch his back tire clip the front bumper on the bus. The guy was wearing full sleeve and pants all biker leather. But no helmet or gloves. He went down hard and slid a good ways finally off the road and into the ditch. He musta been in shock but the mofo stood up and walked towards the bus w half a face and most his hand left on the pavement. Driver rushed out and got him sat down for emergency vehicles to get there. Good thing it was the bus because it was well before cell phones. Buses then(probably now) had a CB radio w channel open to the sheriffs office. Don't think I've really ever shared that memory before. But kinda just saying that the outcomes imprinted on me.

Wrote a book but I'm just sitting here drinking coffee on a day off bored.

No worries man, it's a calculated risk for all of us every day, regardless whether you're on a bike or in a car. I agree with everything you said about cell phones, blind spots, etc as well. I ride like I'm invisible, because unfortunately, many times, we are.

Out tomorrow with the factory TM race team practicing on a natural terrain MotoX track:shock:

If you don,t hear from me for a while , i,ve not bounced real good and broken myself:mrgreen:

Here's the first motorcycle I've ever ridden and built. 74 cb550 cafe bike. Sold it this time last year

And... Here's the current project. 78 xs400. It will be a bare bones cafe bike too. I go in and out of losing interest losing interest on it. When all said and done it should end up being my cb550's twin as for as
Color combo goes.
