Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

These finally showed up today. Lighter weight, sweet spot width wise for 29+, much higher POE (90) rear hub, etc. They even include tubeless valves, sealant, and both XD and Shimano freehub bodies. Going on the SStache.

My renters insurance covered that stolen Specialized AND the upgrades!

Highly recommend getting it for anyone who hasn't yet...

Especially as a previous apartment complex fire caused about a 90% loss of my belongings (including a dozen or so RC vehicles) and I had just got insured 7 months prior.

I've had a renter policy for years, only covers my bikes while at home. I can add an additional rider to my policy, for a small phenomenal fee. It would also factor in depreciation as well, which Velosurance does not, they pay 100% of the purchase price, and any riding gear, etc in the event of a crash.

So this happened Monday...

cool part is the frame isn't being warrantied. THE WHOLE BIKE IS BEING WARRANTIED!!!:shock::shock:
Yup, you got that right. I am getting a whole new bike out of the deal. Still stunned. The cracked bike is my 2009 Redline D660. It was a gift from my mom and wife when I came home from Iraq in 09. They bought it from the shop I worked at until I deployed.
So, the frame cracked. I just happened to be in Tucson riding Fantasy Island with my oldest son when it happened. I stopped by the shop to see what my options were. In summary, the distributor decided to replace it because nothing from the old bike would fit the new frame. Seat post is now 30.9, wheels are thru axle, and the fork is now 1.5" tapered. The ONLY issue is it won't be replaced with a Redline. It will be a Diamondback Overdrive Pro 29er.
Winning...

Got to ride my new wheels today. Very happy with them, noticeable difference in spin up, and loving the higher POE. Still super happy with the SStache too, just so damned fun.

Close, but no cigar.

Rode again today, and had one of those days where you just feel strong. Cleaned a climb for the first time on a SS without having to stop and let my heart rate drop. I was about to pop by the top though. :lmao: Actually got to pass the shop owner (also on a SS) when he spun the rear in the leaves, that's a first. I've really grown to love the traction of the 29+, and the SStache itself. It suits SS riding very well, and suits me perfectly.

I always joke that I have owned two MTB SS- each one for about 100 feet! :) Also, all my bikes are single speed- I just happen to be able to change the ratio whenever I like. Can only ride in one gear at a time! :)
I do like my road SS though, great commuter and fun on those less hilly road rides. Totally silent too.

I have bad knees too, one worse than the other. The SS is bad for the knees thing has been debunked many, many times. Standing and climbing, provided you use good posture and don't have a biomechanics issue (pronation, supination, etc), is actually a lot more natural movement than sitting and spinning as it very closely mimics walking. This is starting my fourth season back in the saddle, and my knees are better than they've been in 20 years since the muscles, ligaments and tendons that support them are stronger than they've ever been. I'll have normal muscle soreness where my quads attach to the inside of the knee (vastus medialis), usually the day after a hard effort, but that's normal even for climbing on a geared bike. Now the shoulder I had bolted back together in '09 on the other hand...

Damn dinner plate rear gear.

Looks alright.

Reminded me of the other day, I went out riding with a buddy. He is always with the latest and greatest gear. So he has been on 1x11 for a year or two. He laughed at my "tiny" sprocket gears. I still rock the XT 2x10 setup. I know, soooooo old school.

I still am not used to seeing rear sprockets larger than a disc rotor.

Haven't posted in here recently:

My forever bike. All City Log Lady w/ 27+ White Industry Hubs, Velociity Blunts, Race Face, Jones Bars, blah blah. Such a fun bike. It handles Vermont's tech trails and climbs no problem:

I got a couple more new bikes since last time too, just don't have pictures up on Photobucket, and I am too lazy and impatient to deal with PB these days. It really sucks.
