Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

I have three different dropper posts (gravity dropper, RSP plummet, Rockshox Reverb Stealth), on three different bikes, zero issues. None of my buddies have had issues either. Keep in mind, it's the internet; nobody comes on to rave about how great their flawless dropper has been. But have one issue, and they'll sing it from the highest mountain top. I'll never be without one again.

As far as pedals are concerned, to each their own. But, I have zero issues with my feet bouncing around once I re-learned proper technique. Flats will show you any and all flaws in riding technique, quickly, and sometimes painfully.

Also, I finally got to get in a decent ride on the new bike this weekend. I swapped to a 70mm stem, and it's just right for me on the XL at 6'2", everything is right where it should be. I was out of town visiting family, and rode Big Creek park which I know fairly well, and it's pretty technical in places so it was a good first test. I made a couple rooty climbs that I've struggled with in the past due to the surface there (loose over hard pack), along with 4-12" roots in the middle of a switchback, etc. The SStache excelled in these conditions. You have incredible amounts of traction on tap, but with very low rolling resistance. I fully believe I'd be faster on this than my Fuel under the right conditions. I do miss my remote fork lockout, but I'll get used to it. Going to order an Absolute Black oval ring (run one on my other SS, love it), and already ordered my preferred grips. Other than that, my gamble paid off, I think it's the perfect SS, for me. Then again, I'm a weirdo, so what the hell do I know. :lmao:

Got to ride the SStache on trails I know very well both Saturday and Sunday, 20+ miles total. Cold both days, and we had freezing rain Saturday night that thawed by the time we rode Sunday. So the trails are covered in leaf litter, and damp. I could not have been happier to have been on the Stache, as I watched others slip and skitter around, especially in corners. The SStache just hooked up and hauled ass, and if it did slip, it would re-gain traction very quickly. I really love this bike! And for me at least, I have just as much fun on this as I do on my Fuel EX. it's everything I wanted in an aggressive, burly SS. SO. MUCH. FUN! I was actually faster according to Strava on a downhill run on this than I was my Fuel EX.

Took the Fuel EX up to the shop today and bled my brakes, and man were they over due for it. Also trying out a shorter stem (45mm), and wanted to get in a quick test ride to see how everything felt before heading out of town this weekend. Since I sized up on my frame, I should have done the stem a long time ago. I really thought it would kill my climbing, but I actually made a climb for the first time today. Modern geometry, go figure.

Headed to Pisgah today, was 78 degrees over there, in February.

Did a little over 2,000ft of climbing, mostly hike a bike. Followed by a 2,900ft downhill run off the top of Black Mountain. There are lots of places within driving distance to ride, but there is only one Pisgah.

My neck of the woods has been blanketed with snow for what feels like forever. The weekend before last, my son and I decided to head down to St. George, Utah. We wanted to see dome dirt and feel the sun. I am lucky that two of my nephews have an apartment there. I told them that I may become a part-time roommate. "thumbsup"

I got out on my bike (first time in weeks  ) and we got some RC time in. If you get a chance to visit St. George, check out Church Rocks for mountain bikes and Pioneer Park for RC'ing.

2015 Turner Burner. Swapped out the Fox fork for a Pike and had the Fox shock revamped by Avalanche Engineering. Whole different bike after the suspension tuning.

Southern Utah is an amazing place. Literally a 6 minute drive my nephew's place is the Zen and Barrels trails. I hear a lot of good things about that area. Next time I go down, that is where I am going to ride. Church Rocks was about a 20 minute drive. If you head up North of St. George a few more miles you can find yourself in Hurricane, home of the famous Gooseberry Mesa. I still have not rode the Goose.

St George is pretty awesome. I have ridden all the trails you have mentioned and they are great! I can't wait the couple more weeks until the first nue, True grit and we will get to ride them again.

Here's something I've started building for scale workshop props while I'm waiting for more stainless tube to arrive from China.
This bike was a real success in Far North Queensland in the early '90s and I thought I'd have a go at building a replica. 1990 GT Zaskar, all stainless tube. A mix of 2.4mm, 2.6mm and 3mm all laser welded together.

That is amazing!

Back in '95 I bought a Zaskar LE. I still have the frame.

Started with a mid-eighties Jamis Cross Country 26" rigid (no pics), moved up to a 1990 Specialized RockHopper Comp that I ill-advisedly added cheezy early suspension parts to and ruined the handling - it got stolen from my 2nd-story balcony on a Christmas Eve but by then I'd got my current ride - a 2010 Haro Beasley 650b 1x9er rigid with a few subtle upgrades:

Super short ride today due to family stuff, but better than nothing. Played around with my PSI a bit more, dropped 1/2lb in the rear, feels better. Still loving the shit outta this bike.

My bike should be here sometime next week  My MarshGuard came in on Saturday so at least I'll be able to put that on since I won't be able to ride for about a month or so since there's over a meter of snow down on the ground.....
