Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

That is great! I own a shop and am in talks with the local NICA High School team. Good to get kids that age out on a bike.
Check that frame frequently for cracks- It is standard procedure when a Gary Fisher or Trek alloy frame comes in for repairs to check for cracks before any work is done. Have seen WAY to many broken.

Thanks for getting involved with NICA.
That frame has since been replaced with a Santa Cruz High Ball 29er.
He outgrew that small frame way too quick. He is 5'8" and a freshman. Slow down kid...
Ian had a tough year of it. The first race was up in Flagstaff. Had a great start, then a twat tried to pass him on the inside of the third corner and wadded them up. Ian finished the race, in pain, and dropped the bottle right after the feed zone. He seems to like hitting cactus for some reason. Hence the team dubbed him "cactus whisperer".:lmao::mrgreen:

Something weird happened and it wouldn't let me add the pic of the new frame. Odd. Anyway, let's try it again...

Finally got my rear brake situation sorted out and went for a ride last week. The Guide RS's are awesome now! They still have a bit of a SRAM squeak/squeal, but overall I really like them. Power and modulation are pretty good. Modulation could be a little better but I'm willing to give some up for more power. And I'm also getting better at this one downhill that I used to have to stop every once in awhile and walk part of. Also finally got the street bike fixed. Got a damn nail in the tire and $200 later I now have a Michelin Road Pilot 4 to replace the Road Pilot 3 that was OEM.

Hpiguy nice ride lots of turns and ups and down.

Leadlobber great to get your son involved in positive hobby. Couple years ago the local high school team was riding one of my favorite single tracks, one kid had no etiquette tried to pass me in tight twisty section, he almost ate **** but made it by , had to give him a little shoulder or he would have taken me out wth? Your son is running Saguaros tires, I really like them, fast rolling, good grip in dry and been durable, underrated tires imo. Lol. 8)

Edit: btw sweet white Santa Cruz ht.

Thanks Nate,
He seems to like those Saguaros. Our LBS that sponsors the team, Two Wheel Jones, gave the NICA team a 50% deal on the tires. Basically BOGO. I run them too. Like you said, fast grippy tire. Love it here in the desert.
Ian has done a couple rides on the new Santa Cruz and can tell just how big it is. On the Fisher he was just getting the hang of body english and body/ bike seperation when cornering, being able to get the saddle to the outside of his leg and lean the bike in, let IT turn. He has to learn it all over again with the Large frame of the SC."thumbsup" First race on it is in January for the MBAA series here in AZ.

Picked up a bike hauler last Friday. Had the windows tinted Saturday. I've put just over 500 miles on it since. Averaging just over 31mpg here in the mountains even with the AWD. I love this thing, fun to drive too, can't wait for next riding season!

Lead Lobber, bogo is good deal on Saguaros. Keep your son involved in positive hobbies. 8)

HpiGuy, very nice, love my Subaru! CrossTrek is a great car. :). Congratulations on your new car, 49 miles nice!

So, I was dumb. I knew the Trance was too much bike for me as I wouldn't get to anywhere near it's potential so I sold it and got a road bike instead. That was fun for about the 2nd ride, got buzzed 3 times in about 30 minutes, and with a riders death just before Christmas (UCI rider Ellen Watters) just outside her hometown of Sussex (only 45 mins away from me) on a really open stretch of road, I decided that's enough, I'm not making myself a moving target on the road. So today, I went and traded my 2016 Giant defy Advanced 3 for a 2017 Giant Fathom 2, which will be here in March.

The push to get another mtb again also came from my best friend, since she's going to be getting a new bike too and we're getting free passes to the National Parks in Canada for the 150th anniversary of the country.

Also, my pedals and shoes for the road bike are for sale on eBay...

New build time,
Scored a 2015 Niner Jet 9 Alloy frame for $575. Snatched that shit right up.
Unfortunately, all my parts won't fit on this bike. My hardtail is 1 1/8" fork, this is tapered. Hardtail is QR, this is thru axle, so new wheels. HT is 27.2 seat post, Niner is 30.9. Oh well. Now I'll have two mountain bikes, a loaner for when my brother visits from GA. Let the spending games begin!:lmao:

Sure do. My son and I love climbing the Gold Mine trail to see how far up we can get.
We usually ride Usery Park, Hawes Loop, and McDowell. I've ventured out more to the Sonoran Trails up by Care Free. Ian did the C4 in in Cave Creek back in December. And he has ridden White Tanks a bit as well.
Hell, we could be neighbors. We live in Gilbert as well. Greenfield and Guadalupe, Val Vista Lakes.:flipoff:

Jeff, that's cool. I ride up dynamite side to the back side of goldmine😎 as well as all around there"thumbsup". We are almost neighbors... Greenfield & ocotillo here. Sounds like the son is getting better"thumbsup"8).

... Jake;-)

It was 71 degrees here yesterday, in the mountains, in January. The group wanted to go ride, but I really thought that all the snow and rain would have the trails in terrible shape, and it'd be a wasted trip. Luckily, the shop owners know better than me. Trails were perfect! Got my hitch installed on Saturday, and got to use my new 1up USA rack for the first time yesterday also. Hands down, best bike carrying system I've owned, and one of the nicest cycling accessories I've ever owned, period. Also of note, the single speeds outnumbered the geared bikes yesterday!

After roughly a year experimenting with various things on my SS, I ordered a new bike yesterday. Might show up tomorrow, but will likely be Monday. Ordered the spacer kit, cog, and a shim to use my dropper post on it. Rode one at a demo day, it should make for a fun, rowdy SS. I'll post up some pics when it's completed.
