^^Good stuff guys!

I picked this up during the black Friday sale. Been wanting to give one a try without sinking a ton of cash into it, kind of like my first SS. I put my own stem, bars, grips, and the BB5 calipers and levers from my first SS on it. Still need to figure out pedals, and will likely replace the saddle also. I rode it up and down the driveway a bit, seems fun so far, getting in the first real ride tomorrow night. Everything seems to be of decent quality, and they get good praise over at MTBR. And yes, it's a single speed.

BB was not full of red loc tite (it was the only thing that wasn't) like some I've seen, and was even greased. But, I cleaned it all up and used my own preferred grease.

Here it is all done, my big goofy fat bike, can't wait for a full ride tomorrow night!

I was looking at your avatar when reading those first three words, and it was pretty damn funny to me. I just weighed it (as best I can), and for a cheap fat bike it's not bad, 34lbs as it sits. I had way too much air in the tires too, dropped them to 10lbs which seems to be the norm for fatties.

Fat bikes are big deal up here. Amazing how much flotation you can get. And 4" tires are considered the skinny tires for these things. I wasn't sure I would like 'em either so I sprung for a Minnesota 2.0. Decent component spec and big bang for the buck.

^^Very nice framed 2.0!!

It rarely snows here, and I'm about 6 hours from the nearest beach. But, it is a temperate rain forest, so for much of the year, our trails will be wet. Now, I'm not one to go destroy trails when it's really sloppy, but if I canceled a ride every time it was the least bit wet, you'd never get to ride around here. Not to mention, my average drive time to the trailhead is an hour, so it may be dry here, but rained there overnight or earlier this morning. Our clay based soil, and rocks and roots can be treacherous when wet, so the added traction was a big reason for it in my case. And, they just seem like goofy fun, hence why I call it the big goofy fat bike. But, if it does snow, then so be it this year.

Just got in from my first ride on the fatty, and here's what I think so far...

With such a huge footprint, traction is incredible, and low speed handling and balance are awesome as well. The extra weight isn't that noticeable, and I made some short, steep, loose climbs that I couldn't make on my other SS. I'm so happy I bought this thing, it's so much fun, it's like getting to drive the clown car at the circus. :lmao:

I rode a cheapie one a fellow RCC'r got. Cruised around the neighborhood, smashing into curbs and stuff. I couldn't stop laughing, and your clown car analogy is good. His is heavy, and it's quite noticeable to me. Even if I was really into biking right now, no way would I go fat tire, it's too weird.

EeePee, they suck on pavement, period. You can't judge them off that alone. The big tires try to self steer, and I agree, it just feels weird. Mine is a cheapie, but pretty light for what it is at 34lbs, and I can shave another 2lbs off that with better tires. In the dirt, it's awesome! I think I could drag a knee on the right kind of turn, there's that much traction.

I found a new place to ride. 2.5 mile climb for a 1 mile gnarly and steep decent. Scared the crap out of myself though. Overshot a 10 foot double and landed in the middle of the next double, bottomed out the fork on the back side of the send landing, almost ate it and didn't get that one again. I ride a 160mm FS Devinci Hectik 3. My buddy had his formula brakes crap out on him so no second run.

God it was cold. It was snowing and the water on the trail was frozen. We only hit the "beginner" line that day. It was fairly gnarly compared to everything else I've run.

Last week I ordered a Framed Minnesota 3.0!! Should be here Friday.

Not like I need another bike, but whatevs.

Good times to be had.

@ Deerhurst - glad you saved it!!

@ tedo - You'll probably need to duct tape your cheeks to keep from breaking your face from smiling. I can't wait to get a good long ride this weekend on mine. Looks like showers Friday and Saturday, so it should be perfect fat bike time.
