1x10.. I'm in love! I just converted to a 32x11-42 using one up components big cog and rad cage on xt rear derailleur. I've still got the gearing I need to climb most anything and I lost the weight of a shifter pod, front derailleur, and chain rings. Anyone else tried this yet?

Not yet, but plan on being on 1X11 by next XC season.

Race bike has a 1x10. 38 ring with 12x36 cassette. Like it a lot better this way as opposed to when it was a 2x9

 Thanks guys. My ass still hurts though. So much money. But, I did get a pretty good deal on it. I have a ride this sunday with my friend down in Lake Forrest. I'll be able to really test it out. I've already got upgrades in mind. Probably a 10-20mm shorter stem and some wider bars. After the stock pads wear out in the brakes I'm going to try sintered as the brakes don't have as much power as I'd like. I want to be able to lock up the rear wheel. If that doesn't work, I'll get some XT's. Might go 1x10 with a 40 or 42T in the rear. But it's got loads of grunt right now.

I upgraded to the XT brakes and rotors recently. Well worth the money."thumbsup"

Oh we can post bikes here? Here's my Bee's Knees singlespeed. I've had nicer stuff before, but I feel like the simpler the tool, the more versatile it is.

I also do videos.

^^Nice, I had a Bees Knees for a bit.

Rode Tsali today on the SS. It was pretty chilly when I started (high '30s maybe low '40s) and it took me a couple miles to get warm, then I was too warm and had to shed the jacket and I was good after that. I'd never done Mouse or Thompson loops. They're harder IMO than right and left loops, as they have quite a bit more climbing, but still lots of fun sections too. "thumbsup"

Trying out the new Absolute Black oval ring, and personally, I really like it

It was chilly out, but damn what a good day to ride! No haze and almost no clouds, and that deep vivid dark blue the sky only turns here in cooler weather.

Your strong, tuff, or got really good blood flow. Or all three"thumbsup" My epic came with a 38 ring and it kicks my a$$. There's a 36 or 34 in my future.

RB, I honestly didn't feel that great today, not sure if it was the cold or what. But I made some pretty decent climbs seated on the SS, not sure if the oval helped or not with that or I'm just getting stronger. But I know what it did help with, on loose climbs where I'm standing, even with layer upon layer of dry leaves over dirt and gravel the bike really hooks up a lot better. I'm happy with it, and will keep you posted once I ride trails that I know well.

Hpi are those nevengals on your bike? You can pick up some major speed instantly by throwing out those boat anchors!

Yeah, they are, and I can definitely feel their weight. I'll grab some new tires at some point, likely after the holidays. Any recommendations in 650b? East coast riding; rocks, roots, usually loose over hardpack for the trails, and right now covered in leaves.

It's not really the weight that makes them slow it is the tread. They just have so much drag it feals like your pulling a dead body behind you. Their handling characteristics are not do great either. They have a very fast turn in, then fade, then grab, then throw you on the ground with no warning.

If you want to stick with kenda the karma is pretty good. I have that on the back of my 650 bike. You can't beat the racing Ralph for front and back but they are expensive and wear quickly. The maxxis ikon is a pretty good tire too, almost as good as the racing Ralph but not great for the rear of a ss. The ikon front and ignitor rear is a good combo. Small block 8s are also good but not so great on the rear of an ss.

Hey hpiguy, what kind of pedals are those and are they spd compatible?
I still like my clips but would like more of a platform. Looks like they might be what I need for Dhilling.

Cool, thanks rupps5, I'll look into some of those choices.

rottenbelly, I'm afraid they're Crank Brothers pedals. They're Mallet 3 DH pedals actually, I really like having the platform on the SS since I stand so much more on it, I don't get any hotspots on the feet with them like I do on the XC bike when standing for extended periods.

Rotyenbelly do An eBay search for shimano dx pedals, think you will find what you are looking for...

Went for a ride today out near Oakley HQ. Didn't record the ride though, my phone didn't charge enough last night. Was kinda cool to get to see Oakley HQ up close and in person. They weren't open though. :( Did get to see the APC and all the toys they have outside. I have pics but my friend still needs to send me some of the pics.

Yeah, I had to ditch the stock nevegals on mine. Rigid bikes need fat tires. I prodealed some Vee Rubber tires. The Trail Taker was designed by Kirk Pacenti, it's the same tread as the Nevegal, but with a 2.4 casing and a great price. I run it on the rear, reversed, and I just put a Vee Rubber Flow on the front. Real MotoX style tread.

I've heard good things about the WTB Breakout but they don't seem to be available yet.

You do know they make 2.5 and 2.35 nevegals right? I have one on the back of my SS and it grips like no tomorrow. The 2.4 3C High Roller II up front has tons of grip too.
